Absolute dream Derby Final, i think when they went down the back in the 2nd semi final was possibly one of the best moments of my life
![]() |
By:
Very open final. The only dog I can't see winning is camas.
By:
Powers have puma at 2/1. I reckon he will be last going down the back straight.
By:
I've had a rake of beer and was on a right horn after the 2nd semi final
but Camas looks facking massive at 10s |
By:
Have Camas at 25/1 going into the final next week, bring it on!! Had our dog win a final tonight at Curraheen. Gary Wiltshire presenting the trophies. Really nice guy. Got a few photos and had a pint with him. Great night. Next stop SHELBOURNE!!!

What happened to Bugatti lads ye were all blowing about what a great bet he was? Finished last, he had shown nothing the whole Derby to command any respect.
![]() Puma is some detail. |
By:
Read 1st semi spot on. Bug and Imp cut it out, Puma mow them down, obvious. 13/8 was too big!
. Cant see Imp or Camas turning the tables. That leaves 2nd semi. Reckon Sugar Ray would have overhauled Cougar with a clear run and George there on merit. Final: Easy to cover Camas, not so Cougar. 5/2 no good, want about 10/3 really. Best winner in order financially: Imp, George, Sugar Ray. Actually, would have been very sweet on Sugar Ray in T1. He hammered Puma in Quarters but with this draw, fancy Puma to overpower Cougar, who is set to lead. If Sugar Ray can get a run at them and grab rails, go close. George thereabouts. Imp and Camas need lots of luck |
By:
I went last night and the crowd was shockingly low for such a decent card...
hard to see the dogs lasting much longer if last night is anything to go by. Skywalker Puma impressive (stating obvious :) ) |
By:
the first derby semi com from she'll last night thought he was breaking into police LP
By:
Anyone want to have a go at predicting the SPs? We usually get a big late gamble, wonder if Cougar goes off Fav?
Having said that, he'll have to ping one more time to win. If he does ping, he'll need a good lead again as the race is full of stong finishers. What ever happens, think it will be a brilliant final. |
By:
DefinateOpinion if they ran the race again i would bet Razldazl Bugatti at 4/1 again, he ran too bad to be true and was never going to win when Puma turned so close, i didn't expect that. As for shown nothing the whole Derby to command any respect i suggest you watch the 1/4 final. Yes he ran like an absolute drain in the early rounds but he ran well behind Laughil Billy in the 1/4 final.
The second semi was a dream, had 3 bogeys left in the Derby with one of them a big bogey and they all went out. Now why couldn't Wimbledon have gone like that at the semi final stage ![]() |
By:
4/1
9/4 9/4 9/2 14/1 13/2 something like that i can see them going off |

Where is the value in the market now? Here is my views anyway. Sparta Maestro @ 10/1 (I still think he deserves to be favourite despite Saturday nights flat run where he was found to be sore on his foot. Before that run he had never been out of the first 3. He runs Shelbourne brilliantly and can do it from the front or from behind. Of the market leaders he is the one i prefer at the prices.) Razldazl Will @ 25/1 (Bigger on here. I have actually been disappointed with him this year but he just keeps making finals so in terms of an ante post bet he seems a reasonable price for that reason. The only competition he has entered that he did not make the final was the Gold Cup where he got bad trouble but he has made the National Puppy Stake, Easter Cup, Betfair 600 and ECC Timber finals all at Shelbourne and it is not hard to imagine him making the Derby Final too.) Skywalker Puma @ 40/1 (He did a stunning run at Kilkenny last Friday night and has already shown what he can do at Shelbourne and the step up to 550y looks sure to suit. In fact watch the Larry Dunne final that Sparta Maestro won and Skywalker Puma was absolutely flying into the 3rd bend where he got no run and i wonder what the result would have been had he got through there. He has massive pace and stays well and should be tough to knock out.) Power Of God @ 50/1 (Won the Produce Stakes at Clonmel but i don't think that track suited him the best and he did well to win in the circumstances. At Shelbourne he has already clocked 28.44 (twice) and he runs in the Race Of Champions at Tralee Saturday night where he was only beat a SH by Razldazl Rioga in the semi finals. The only worry i have with him is the draw, he is mad for the rails so the draws will be crucial for him.) Camas @ 66/1 (A Produce Stakes finalist behind Power Of God and he runs in the ECC Timber final on Saturday night at Shelbourne. This lad is a proper (w) seed and a proper wide runner. Since coming to Shelbourne he seems to have improved his trapping and he has fine all round pace. If he keeps drawing the outside box he should avoid all problems and is one who could go deep in the comp.) Cashen Mafuma @ 66/1 (Another Produce Stakes finalist and he looked unlucky in last weeks semi final of the Race Of Champions. His form down the country is very good and he can do it both ways. The last time he ran in Shelbourne over 525y he was pretty unlucky in losing 1/2L to Dear Pa and the extra distance should prove to be no problem. He was naughty after the line that night so probably has a kink but if reproducing the form he shows in CML, LMK and TRL the price would be too big.) Captain America @ 100/1 (Made the semi final of the Produce Stakes but it was in the 1/4 final where he really looked on the up. That night he drew trap 6 (unseeded) and he made his best start and it really seemed to suit. He was then knocked out in the semi final but returned on finals night to win in 29.79 over 550y from 6 this time seeded (w). He then went around Newbridge in a trial in early May in 28.46 but has not been seen since. I just hope everything is ok with him but the improvement he showed during the Produce Stakes was excellent and if he can show that around Shelbourne i think he could do a lot better than those odds suggest.) I thought Tyrur Sugar Ray was a good price @ 33/1 but his last 2 runs have left given me more questions than answers. He clearly has the pace to figure in the Derby and things didn't go perfect for him in those races. Maybe i'm being a bit rash as he is very inexperienced. Like Power Of God he is another who wants to be drawn rails as so far he turns left from boxes but maybe with experience he may learn to hold his line run up. Jesus that post went well, some disasters with 2 non runners and Power Of God going in round 1 and Captain America in round 2 but barring them it went excellent. |

Well we all seem to be pleased with ourselves. I said i could see Puma going off second favourite for the final, or even favourite. So, covered at 6/1.
The non-entries was a disaster for me making it almost impossible to win. Could have done with Ballymac Vic but it wasnt meant to be. Wonder if he'll be on the card next Saturday? Can we have a shock Imp win. Would be a great result for me. George okay but cant see it. The rest just cutting losses. Sugar Ray is the fastest finalist but said i could see improvement in Puma and even if Ray got his T1, i would have expected it to be a lot closer in the semis. Everyone said Imp would cause problems in the semis, never happened. Dogs dont always run identical races, so if the draw aint too bad for Sugar Ray, he could be the one with a break. Thinking of juggling my bets to make Sugar Ray a winner and the rest bigger losers at 9/2. Seems a big price for such a fast dog, who has leathered Puma and who would arguably have beaten Cougar in the semis. PF, any news of the trials? |
By:
Meant closer between Sugar Ray and Puma than in the Quarters
By:
Warhawk done 28.54, i didn't see the trial. Barrie was walking out with the dog as i was walking in so just missed it
By:
Thanks. Warhawk surely come on for that. Getting excited now! Just going to look for the Dublin weather Saturday!

By:
Screw the Dublin weather, i just can't wait until Sunday morning to get out of the bloody country for a while
By:
I got wet walking down O'Connell St when last there year before last, wouldnt be keen on a repeat, even wearing my City baseball cap!
![]() Imp camp must be delighted they backed out of Irish sprint. The more i think about it, the more i'm warming to Sugar Ray. Conor knows how to get them to ping in an Irish Derby final, could see Sugar Ray turning second to Cougar, who i think is due a miss anyway |
By:
Hope your right wood but i think imp will turn 2nd .
By:
if the white pulls the blue and the black around it will be interesting down the back.i wish the 2 of them were in each others traps! the red could get an absolute dream run around the inside.
By:
how wrong can you be, Bugatti dis everything expected to the 2nd bend, then absolutely nil. can't explain. cheers.
By:
bugatti? you might want to look again mate.
By:
points. can't figure out what you mean, only thing I can see, stride getting shorter the further it went. cheers.
By:
Bug does throw in the odd lack-lustre effort
By:
bairn.....is it not george?
By:
I'm scared stiff to put up how I think the final will be run, I can only see Puma or George winning, if Puma doesn't clear George by the 2nd or even halfway, it will never beat it, bet George ew this morning, hoping Puma wins with George running 2nd. cheers.
By:
Hope youre right Bairn. Dont want Cougar or Camas. Puma's flying now and should tail Cougar, then pick him up. Would be nice, but cant see George getting into it. More likely Sugar Ray breaks, then it's game on! Holding on to the slight prospect Imp leads, trouble behind and holds on
![]() |
By:
dont you think even if imp does come away it runs to its right to the first bend? could be plenty room for sugar ray to get going. my head is starting to hurt!!
By:
Coolykereen Imp has gone up dead straight from 4 on the occasions he has been that far out and runs the bend better too from drawn out. I think the draw has worked out well for him with Sugar Ray and Cougar moving rails inside him and Camas staying wide outside him, however his only real hope seems to be leading and trouble on the inside but even if that happens it sets it up for Camas who would also avoid it.
By:
Something must surely get clear, dont mind as long as it's not Cougar beyond recall
By:
cougar a cert to be 2 to 3 up by first on a fast track which also looks a cert he will do at least 29.50 it will take a 29.25 run to come from behind get on 3 agreat price
By:
ok here goes.cougar leads.sugar goes up second and squeezes just infront of puma going into the bend.sets off after cougar and picks him up off the last bend.wins going away.george gets a solo around the inside but just gets pipped by puma for second.simples.

By:
if only it was that simple lads.

you mean its not?

The entire Derby final card is now up but no sprint this year - What price Cuil Cougar to lead to the opening bend?
I think a certain firm might be pricing up which dog records the fastest sectional in the big one ![]() |
By:
surely it will only take a 29.49 run to come from behind and beat the 29.50 dog?
