€120,000 LADBROKES DERBY PRIZE
- And an extra €80K if it’s The Causeway Thursday, May 27th There will be a winner’s prize of €120,000 for this year’s Ladbrokes.com Irish Derby, which maintains the classic’s position as the most valuable greyhound event in this part of the world. There were genuine fears that the winner’s prize would dip below the 100K mark but these have been allayed by today’s announcement from the Irish Greyhound Board. There is a very interesting carrot of an extra €80,000 in the event of College Causeway successfully defending his title. ![]() This is the first year of Ladbrokes involvement in the classic and, for the first time ever, all heats of the classic will be broadcast live in all branches of the Ladbrokes shops across Britain. The final will be broadcast live ion RTE Television on Saturday, September 11th. There will be Derby Trial Stakes at all nineteen tracks in Ireland as well as five tracks in the UK. Commenting today on the news, Shelbourne’s Sales, Operations and Commercial Manager Patrick Flynn said: "Even at this early stage there has been great talk about this year's Ladbrokes.com Irish Derby and the additional incentive that Ladbrokes have come with to encourage College Causeway to return to defend his crown adds real extra spice to this year's renewal. There have been some fantastic performances at Shelbourne Park in recent weeks as many of the potential stars of this year's Derby start to limber up for this year's event which remains one of the richest events in world greyhound racing. Joe Lewins, MD of Ladbrokes Ireland said: “College Causeway earned his place in the history books last year, he’s legendary. We’d just love to see him back. With the live broadcast into all our UK shops punters won’t miss out on any of the action.” The dates for the Derby are: First Round: Wednesday 4th August, Thursday 5th August & Saturday 7th August. Second Round: Thursday 12th August & Saturday 14th August Third Round: Saturday 21st August Quarter-Finals: Saturday 28th August Semi-Finals: Saturday 4th September Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Final: Saturday 11th September |

causeway at the prices for me that extra 80000 could be snapped up sharpish
By:
I hear Tyrur Quinn could be a doubt!
By:
Anyone got any news on scolari me daddy, tyrur lohan? And if the causeway will run? cheers.
By:
Scolari Me Daddy will probably never run again, broke his hock in a trial at Newbridge
Tyrur Lohan was with Lister, got injured in trial at Notts i think College Causeway they said will have a few trials before the derby and his 1st race back will be the derby. That was the plan from last year but as i've said all along i will believe it when i see him on a track again. Perhaps the €80,000 bonus might entice them to run |
By:
think Lohan did a hock too but not certain

NO LADBROKES DERBY FOR JACK
Tuesday, June 1st English Derby final favourite Toomaline Jack will not be bidding for glory in the Ladbrokes Irish Derby at Shelbourne Park according to his trainer Dolores Ruth. ![]() ![]() Speaking from her Rathangan kennels this morning, Dolores confirmed that Toomaline Jack will be returning to English in less than three weeks to contest the Williamhill.com Grand National and he will then be aimed at the Champion Stakes at Shelbourne. But she suggests that could be end of the line for the brilliantly fast son of Hallucinate and Mercury Queen. “No, he won’t be running in the Derby” was her response when I mentioned the Shelbourne spectacular, the richest race in greyhound sport. “We will go for Champion Stakes but we will give the Derby a miss”. Dolores says she is very proud of what she has achieved with the dog. ”When he came to me last year you wouldn’t have dreamed that he would end up where he has. He wasn’t tired after Saturday night’s race. He could have run on Monday night, he was jumping out of his skin. “We will now give him two weeks off and have him nice and fresh for the Grand National at Wimbledon. I didn’t come back until yesterday and we had the dog checked all over on Sunday. He is perfect and will be just right for the National. He won’t have a trial beforehand”. |
By:
bjg - what a bizarre schedule for the dog. I'm sure if he goes close in the champion, dolores will change her mind.

By:
dog is a screw, won't win Irish Derby anyway. liable to have a go again as soon as he is led
