what about Tipoki? strong running dog surely suited to Shelbourne. I know Charlie aint keen on getting on the boat ;-) but if I was the owner (I wish) I'd send him to someone over there if he won't travel.
to be honest it doesn't seem like its going to be a vintage Derby this year and the double could be there for the taking |

it too late for college causeway, the owners have missed the english derby again SF!

|

I think Charlie should bring Fear Zafonic over too. He doesn't have too many more chances of landing a big one. His ability deserves that chance.

I believe Kiowa Myth is coming over again. Very impressed with him in the derby plate, hopefully they will prepare him better for the derby this year.

KIOWA RETURNS FOR DERBY BID
Wednesday, May 19th There will again be an American challenge for this year’s Ladbrokes Irish Derby with Bryan Dalton confirming that Kiowa Myth will again bid to land Europe’s top greyhound prize. You will remember that Kiowa Myth made a huge impact in last year’s Derby and was one of the leading fancies prior to his unlucky elimination in the quarter final stage. This was after a very poor preparation as a result of the dog arriving in Ireland far too late to be properly acclimatised to the totally different racing conditions. Fr Dalton had intimated following last year’s Derby that he would be bringing over a few dogs for the 2010 classic but it would appear that Kiowa Myth will be the sole challenger for the Dalton/ Pauline O’Donnell team. The dog will again be based with Mossie O’Connor in Castleisland and should be settling in his new kennel in the next few days. Dalton confirms that the dog is in top form and has been running particularly well around Wheeling in recent outings. |

THE DERBY BETTING
Monday, June 7th Do the firms keep up the date with the goings-on in the greyhound world? A glance through the ante-post betting on the Ladbrokes Irish Derby would certainly leave you wondering! Just consider some of these strange prices ….. * Scolari Me Daddy is 20-1 with Stan James and 23-1 with Betfair. But he smashed a hock prior to the Cox Cup at Newbridge and will never race again. Indeed, he will be standing at stud as soon as his leg is strong enough. * We Paint Houses has been given a “very generous” 100-1 quote by Ladbrokes, Stand James and Paddy Power. But, as readers of this website will be very well aware, We Paint Houses is now based in Australia and finished second on his Oz debut last Wednesday. * Accordello has been given a 100-1 quote by the same three firms but it is probably big odds against him actually lining up as he is recuperating from a very serious injury. * Toomaline Jack is just 20-1 with Ladbrokes, the only company to quote him, but his trainer Dolores Ruth was quoted in this website and elsewhere as saying that he will DEFINITELY NOT contest the Irish Derby. There are others but that’s just a taster! Now, saying all that, there is value to be had if you go through the lists (Oddschecker is the ideal location), and Definate Opinion is just one of them! |

P.J. Fahy’s new star Tyrur Enda is not as badly injured as it first seemed and it is hoped that he will be back galloping in three weeks. Tyrur Enda ran below his very his standard when fading badly on the run-in to be a four length third behind Hurry On Black in the open 525 final at Shelbourne Park. However, he was “on three legs” according to Fahy on Sunday morning with what appeared to be a serious toe injury. However, a veterinary:examination yesterday morning showed that the problem is not so serious. Said Fahy: “Thankfully there is no fracture. He has a sprained toe and should be back galloping again in three weeks”. Tyrur Enda had won five of his seven races entering Saturday’s contest at Shelbourne with best times of 28.32 and 28.33 around the Ringsend circuit. Fahy also had encouraging news of another injured kennel star Tyrur Lohan. He has been with Charlie Lister since late last year in preparation for a challenge on the English Derby. However, injury ruled out that plan and the dog returned home. He is coming along nicely and Fahy is hopeful that he, too, can be galloping inside three weeks. Both dogs will be aimed directly at the Ladbrokes Irish Derby. One Tyrur star tracker that won’t be seen on a track again is the flying bitch Tyrur Liz. She damaged a whip muscle on Saturday night and has been retired to the breeding paddocks. |

I dont think Toomaline Jack would quite stay well enough to win the Irish Derby though could be wrong, Joker was picking him up in the Easter Cup though clearly its still a top form line.
Backed a few too many early doors in the English version this year that come post time I didnt fancy though have taken 40/1 about Joker and 50/1 Westmead Bolt on the advice of our esteemed Irish tipster on here!! |

Barefoot Bullet had his first run on Irish soil in almost three months at Shelbourne on Saturday night and after a failed attempt at the English Derby he now looks a lively contender for the Ladbrokes.com Derby after a superb display in the second semi final of the ECC Timber Open 525.
The Paul Hennessy trained star had finished second to Fatboyz Tyson in the Joe Dunne Memorial final earlier in the year, but he gained revenge on his rival when coming from behind to snatch a narrow success. Fatboyz Tyson had set the pace with Oran Classic a close second, but Barefoot Bullet turned a close third and his superior pace down the back straight proved decisive. Taking over from Fatboyz Tyson between the last two bends he seemed certain to score, only to swing wide on the final bend. Fatboyz came back at the new leader up the run in, but Barefoot held on for a fine victory by three parts of a length in a very quick 28.55, while Oran Classic was another two lengths adrift in third. Sean Dunphy’s St Leger winner Bar Blackstone produced a very impressive performance in winning the opening semi-final. Showing a brilliant turn of pace to the bend he was in complete command entering the back straight and easily resisted the big run from Whatsupjack by two and a half lengths in 28.65. Belvedere Champ walked out but finished strongly to be a two length third. There were two very exciting semi-finals of the Tyrur Rhino 550 with Louise Scally’s Cabra Legend (Big Daddy Cool/ Cabra Star) producing another impressive Shelbourne effort. Here Tyrur Richie got off to a flyer and set a strong gallop from Cabra Legend. But the Graham Holland trained Cabra Legend came through bravely in the straight to win by a length from Tyrur Richie in 30.13 with Farley Turbo three parts of a length third. The second heat was an absolute thriller with Hovex Shaun setting a hectic pace and he was clear down the back from Farley Blitz and Razldazl Lord. Hovex still had a four length advantage at the third bend but his stride began to shorten and the Owen McKenna trained Farley Blitz (Hondo Black/ Blue Honey) got up late to win by half a length in 30.17 while it was just a length and a half to Razldazl Lord in third. |

KIOWA MAKES 2010 DEBUT
Wednesday, July 7th Having made such an impact last year when contesting the Irish Derby and Laurels, Kiowa Myth will make his 2010 Irish debut when contesting the semi-finals of the Ladbrokes.com Irish Derby Trial Stake at Tralee on Friday night. The dog has run very well this season in America but hasn’t been breaking well enough in his trials in Ireland to tempt connections to accept an invitation to contest the **** International at Dundalk next Monday. The son of Dragon Fire will run from the inside trap in the second semi where the opposition includes track specialist Killorane Boy and recent Race of Champions finalist Lassa Extreme. The other semi will have Liam Dowling’s 2009 Derby semi-finalist Three One Three as the likely favourite. |

KINDA IN IRISH BID
Thursday, July 8th # Last year’s English Derby winner Kinda Ready could be a challenger for the forthcoming Ladbrokes.com Irish Derby at Shelbourne. Having failed to rediscover his Derby form, Kinda Ready is currently based in Carrick-on-Suir with Ian Seymour, who whelped down the dog and reared him to trialling stage. He made a surprise appearance at Shelbourne last Saturday when he was given a pre-racing trial over 525 yards and covered the 525 yards in 29.11 when beating Fleetwood Nick by half a length. Seymour has booked in Kinda Ready for another trial tomorrow night but obviously a tilt at the Ladbrokes.com Irish Derby is very much a possibility. SOME SMART TRIALS Thursday, July 8th There have been some very smart trial runs at Shelbourne in the past week with the 28.56 clock from John Linehan’s Broadstrand Lad last Saturday being marginally the fastest. This son of Hallucinate, a brilliant winner of Clonmel’s IGB Unraced, has been out of action since being injured after winning his first two rounds of the Produce Stakes but he is obviously back in top form and will face Tyrur Enda and Sevenheads Bay in an intriguing open race at Shelbourne on Saturday night. Just a spot slower in Saturday’s trial session was Pat Buckley’s Tullymurry Act and he will wear the red jacket in Monday’s **** International at Dundalk. Owen McKenna’s Champion Stakes bound Thurlesbeg Joker stumbled leaving traps and stopped the clock in 28.77 while another Champion contender, Dolores Ruth’s Makeshift clocked 28.78. Other runs were the 28.92 from Joey Jojo Junior and 28.95 from Sevenheads Bay. But one of the most significant trials of the week was Wednesday’s 28.68 run from Bling Bling Buzz which is an unraced son of Bombastic Shiraz and Respect For Lee trained by Owen McKenna for Aine Quigney. His likely target is an open unraced coming up at Shelbourne in a couple of weeks. |
