Gordon Elliott - exclusively on Betfair
17:00 Galway - Experimentalist

It's a really competitive race and he has to improve if he's to be competitive but I think the step up to two miles should work in his favour. His last run on the flat came at Ballinrobe back in May and he ran well for a long way. The ground should be fine for him and he's got a handy weight. You need plenty of luck in these big fields but Declan McDonogh rides and we're hopeful that he'll go well.

18:30 Perth - Formal Bid

He has been disappointing but he showed a little bit more when fourth behind Daytime Dreamer at Downpatrick last time out and hopefully he can build on that. He must carry top weight here but it's not a great race and if he puts his best foot forward, he should have a good each-way chance. A young lad from the yard - David O'Leary - takes the mount, so we're really hoping he'll go well.

19:00 Perth - Lord Redsgirth

He is what he is and he'll run his race but he can be a tricky sort to win with. He should go well and there is only a small field so hopefully Timmy (Murphy) can get him to put his head in front. From a punter's point of view, he's probably not one to depend on too much.

19:35 Perth - Some Fiddle

She's our best chance of a winner today. She went very close to winning at Kilbeggan last time out, beaten just a short head by Music On D Waters. After a number of good efforts, she deserves a change of luck and the better ground should be in her favour so hopefully she'll get it today. I don't see any reason why she won't go well - she looks to have a good, solid chance.

20:05 Perth - Cottage Oak

He's been disappointing recently and will be going to the sales next month. He has had some good runs in decent handicap chases in the past and we've decided to leave off all the headgear today in the hope that it might spark him back into life. If that's the case, he should run well.

20:35 Perth - Definite All Star

In contrast to Cottage Oak, we're putting cheekpieces on him in the hope that they will help. He has also been disappointing this season but it's not the strongest of races and he has the ability to go well in this company. He has to concede weight to all his rivals and we're hoping for more than expecting a good run from him.

My day one runner at Galway

30 Jul 12 09:28
16:00 - Discoteca

The more the ground dries out the better for him. He has a 10lb penalty to carry for his recent wins over hurdles but he's in great form and we have to be hopeful of a big run from him.

The only concern is that he has to concede weight to all his rivals and Dermot Weld, who has a great record in the race (four wins in last eight years), saddles an interesting hurdling newcomer.

Our horse is still entered in Thursday's Galway Hurdle and if everything goes well today then he could also run there. He needs a couple of horses to come out of that race if he's to get in but today's race will give a little bit more experience.

Davy Russell rides and it'd be great to get the week off to a winning start with our only runner of the day.

Our Uttoxeter runners today

26 Jul 12 10:05
14:20 - Cosmic Wonder
He made his hurdling debut at Downpatrick a couple of weeks ago and ran a good race to finish third behind Heaney. Our horses usually come on for their first run over obstacles and we're hoping that'll be the case for him today. Tony McCoy was available and so we've booked him to take the ride. I don't think the drop to two and a half mile will be a problem and the good ground is what the horse wants, so we're hoping for a big run from him.

15:25 - Russian War
He ran a good race on his return to chasing at Hexham last month and he's been in good form at home since. He'll appreciate the better ground and on ratings he's entitled to be in the frame but it looks like we all have Paul Nicholls' horse (Polisky) to beat. Hopefully he'll go close.

17:10 - Raajih
He got off the mark at Newton Abbot last month and ran well under a penalty the next day at Worcester. He's running off a mark eight pounds higher than he won off but he gets in near the bottom of the handicap this afternoon and Timmy Murphy takes the mount. Like the others, he's travelling in search of better ground and he could go close.

17:40 - Onedin Line
He's a well-bred sort (out of Juddmonte International winner One So Wonderful) and works very well at home. We thought he would run a big race in a point to point recently and he did go well for a long way but the three-mile trip probably stretched him too far. He's back to two miles for his track debut and Tony McCoy is on board. We're hoping for a good run from him and we'll know more about him afterwards.

17:55 - Experimentalist

He ran well when third behind Liberty's Gift at Sligo recently and hopefully he can build on that today. The ground is being given as soft. He'll cope with that but he would probably prefer it a bit better. Ruby Walsh was available so we've booked him to take the ride and he should have a good solid each-way chance.

Iconic Sway

She made her hurdling debut in the same Sligo race in which Experimentalist finished third but her saddle slipped very early and we didn't really learn anything about her that day. She needs to improve on what she has shown on the flat but she's been working well enough and hopefully there will be some encouragement from that run. Emmet McNamara rides her today.

My one Ballinrobe runner

23 Jul 12 08:44
20:20 - Tom's Last Euro
He's our only runner today but he'll have to improve on what he's shown so far if he's to go close in what looks like a competitive handicap. It's only his third run for us and maybe we're still learning with him but we'd like to see something more from him on the track.

The good ground is in his favour and the track should be fine. Davy Condon takes the ride and if he could get into the places, we'd be happy with that.

14:30 - Bold Revenge
We have a half-sister of his at home (Annagh Lodge) and we bought him at the Cheltenham Sales at the end of May because he had some promising point to point form to his name and looked a proper horse.

We're very happy with him, he works and jumps well. We're starting him off over hurdles but he's got plenty of speed and he could be up to winning a bumper later on. He'll come on for this run but we're looking for a good show which will help us decide where to go with him.

15:05 - Cause Of Causes
He's the pick of our two runners in this race. In fact, he's the pick of our runners at the track this afternoon. The ground went totally against him and he didn't stay the trip when tailed off at Perth on his last outing but we've given him time since then and he's in good nick right now.

He's dropping back to two miles and two furlongs this afternoon and that, plus the ground, which they're giving as good to yielding, should be in his favour. He has form at the track and we're expecting him to run well for Paul Carberry today. All being well, this should put him on spot on for the Galway Festival.

15:05 - Court Lexi
She was a winner at Limerick back in May but was a bit disappointing at Kilbeggan a couple of weekshttp://community.betfair.com/gordonelliott/admin/blog_post.one# later so we've given her a little time off. She ran here three times last year, finishing second twice and winning once so she clearly has a liking for the track. She seems to be in good form and we'd be delighted if she could sneak into the frame.

15:40 - Tom's Last Euro
He was making his debut for us the last day but we were a bit disappointed with the run. That was over two-and-a-half miles and hopefully the drop back a couple of furlongs and the better ground might help. He is what he is, but he works quite well at home and this doesn't look the strongest of races. We're hoping for something better this time.

She won a bumper at Ballinrobe around this time last year but she has been a bit disappointing over hurdles so far this term. However, she should appreciate the better ground today. She stays a bit further than this (2m2f) and so she should have each-way claims.

16:45 - Cosmic Wonder
His last two runs have come at this track and he's been placed each time but they were both in bumpers and this is his first start over hurdles. The only concern for him is that he can be a bit keen in his races so Davy (Condon) will drop him in and hope to get him settled early. If he can manage to do that, he should stay today's trip (2m7f) and he's capable of running into a place.

Our two at Kilbeggan today

04 May 12 08:15
17:20 Kilbeggan - Cause Of Causes

He's owned by the Timeform Betfair Racing Club and I had hoped to run him in the Grade 1 Novice Hurdle on the Friday of the Punchestown Festival but the ground went against him and there was no point in running him on it. He's a bit unfortunate not to have won a maiden hurdle by now and hopefully he can change that today. They're calling the ground good to soft, good in places and if it continues to dry out, that'd be all the better for him.

Davy Condon is on board (also rode him on debut when falling at the last when running on from a close 3rd position) and he'll probably have him handy throughout. The trip (2m3f) should be ideal for him, he's in great form at home and he should go very close.

17:55 Kilbeggan - Spring Lane

He was an easy winner of a bumper at Downpatrick last time, after being a bit unlucky when touched off in a similar race at Catterick the time before. He's fit and well from those runs but this is his first run over hurdles and, like all of ours, he should improve for it. He has schooled well at home but I'm just a little concerned that he will need the experience.

21:10 Dundalk - Musawama

He's been a little disappointing over hurdles recently but has plenty of ability and hopefully he will show that tonight. This will be his first run on the flat for us but all his best form was on good ground/the all-weather and he was a winner at Lingfield and Kempton when trained by John Gosden.

My only concern for him this evening is that he has a lot of weight to carry but Emmet McNamara claims 3lbs, which is a help, and the trip won't be a problem. He's a nice horse and we're hoping that running him here will restore a bit of his confidence and he should be capable of putting in a good performance.

My two runners this evening

01 May 12 09:29
19:25 Ballinrobe - The Shepherd

He was only just beaten in a Beginners' Chase at Down Royal over Christmas and his two runs since then have been disappointing, including back at the same track last time. He won a couple of times over hurdles last season and he has ability but we need to get his confidence back over fences. It's not a bad race today so we'll just be looking for a better show and if he gets among the places we'll be very happy.

20:25 Ballinrobe - Cosmic Wonder

He makes his debut for us in the bumper. His point to point form wasn't great but we're hoping he might do okay for us. It's hard to know what to make of today's race - Willie Mullins runs a newcomer (Wrong Way Corrigan, a full brother to Bishopsfurze), who could be anything - so if our lad was able to sneak into the places, that'd be a very good start for him.

Two runners at Perth today

27 Apr 12 09:53
15.45 Perth

Lord Redsgirth

He ran okay first time over fences at Gowran and was second behind Heavenly Brook at Fairyhouse last time. He's making his handicap chase debut this afternoon and on that last run he should take all the beating. The trip isn't a problem and he won his maiden hurdle on heavy ground at Down Royal over Christmas so the conditions won't worry him either. He should go very well.

16.20 Perth

Grey Soldier

We've tried nearly everything we can with him to get his head in front over fences but we haven't managed it yet. As I always say about him, there's plenty of ability there but he's a monkey. He's more than capable of winning off his current mark and he will win one of these days but I couldn't advise anyone to back him.
