Gordon Elliott - exclusively on Betfair
15:25 Downpatrick - Dumbarton

He was a faller on his last run over hurdles but he has schooled well since then and he ran well when third on the sand at Laytown last time out. They've had a lot of rain at Downpatrick and I'd prefer if it had stayed away, but he's on good terms with himself and you'd have to be hopeful that he could be right in the mix in this company.

17:40 Downpatrick - Cosmic Wonder

He got a deserved reward for his consistency when winning at Perth last time out and the ground was very testing then so he should be okay under today's conditions. We're sending him over fences for the first time and he has schooled very well for us at home. He likes this track, having been placed in two bumpers and a hurdle here, and while he will improve for the experience, he has solid each-way claims.

14:45 Perth - Esporao

He won a couple of hurdles at around this time last year and after a spell on the flat recently, he's going back over them for the first time since May. It's a claiming hurdle and, on ratings, he and Forty Thirty look to be well ahead of the others. He ran quite well behind a useful sort at Bellewstown last time and is in good form so we're expecting him to go close.

15:20 Perth - Definite All Star

He has been hard to win with but he ran well here the last day and has plenty of other good form at this track so he clearly likes the place. He won a hurdle here last year but he is yet to make the breakthrough over fences - fingers crossed he can change that today. It's not the most competitive of races and with a little bit of luck, he could do the business for Jason Maguire. He should run well.

17:05 Perth - Bondage

He ran very well when second behind Novarov in a very competitive handicap hurdle at the Galway Festival but disappointed at Downpatrick last time out. He was a little wrong after his last run but seems to be back in form at home. The ground is better than at Galway and I think it will really suit him. Tony McCoy takes the mount - it's always good to have him on your side - and he looks to be our best chance of a winner today.

Our two at Ballinrobe today

24 Sep 12 09:41
17:45 Ballinrobe - Plan A

We've been really looking forward to sending him over fences for a while and he begins his career in that sphere today. He has schooled very well so let's keep our fingers crossed that he gets round safely. He has plenty of class and ran really well when fourth behind Rebel Fitz in the Galway Hurdle last time out. He's an exciting chasing prospect so hopefully he'll be able to make a winning start, but whatever he does today he will certainly improve for it.

18:45 Ballinrobe - Trendelenburg

Paul Carberry takes the mount. He remains in good form at home but he has a bit to find with a number of the other runners in today's race. But it's quite a small field and you never know what might happen so it's worth letting him take his chance in the hope that he may be able to pick up some prize money.

16:05 Galway - Bigearsonmyright

He has had a couple of outings over hurdles and he ran well both times but showed definite signs of greenness. He should be all the better for those and they will stand him in good stead against some less experienced rivals today. He might prefer a bit of better ground but he ran well on his debut in heavy conditions. Davy Condon rides him and we're hoping he might be able to make it into the frame.

16:05 Galway - Fisher

He's having his first run for us, having come here from Dandy Nicholls' yard. He was a winner on the flat at Beverley back in May and he looks like he should adapt to hurdling without much issue. The ground has gone very soft, which is a lot different to what he won on then, but he has schooled very well over hurdles. Barry Geraghty will take his time on him, and we're hoping he'll show some promise but, as with all of ours, he will be better for the experience.

17:05 Galway - Beef To The Heels

He looked up against it at the weights on his last outing at Down Royal but he was still going well when falling at the third last that day. He's none the worse for that incident and has been in good form since but the heavy ground is all against him and we'll have to decide whether or not to let him take his chance.

17:35 Galway - Definite All Star

Like Beef To The Heels, he would prefer better ground and we'll also be making a late decision about his participation. The track and trip wouldn't be a problem for him and at his best he'd be capable of running a very big race, but it really looks like it'll be too testing for him.

16:55 - Some Fiddle
She's been great all season - really consistent - and again ran well despite facing a tough task at the weights last time. This is her first run in a handicap but her mark seems about right and she remains in good form. There's no reason to expect she won't run her race and she should have a solid each-way chance.

18:30 - Brand Ambassador
We were disappointed with him the last day but hopefully the better ground and the step up in trip will see him in a better light. He was a point-to-point winner earlier in the year and ran well in two bumpers and he's still only a four-year-old so hopefully he will improve for his first run over hurdles. We're just looking for a better showing and if he could run into a place we'd be delighted.

19:00 - Romanesco
He made his debut for us at Perth recently and wasn't disgraced, finishing fourth behind Skylancer. His winning form is on heavy ground but he shouldn't mind the better going today and we don't think the longer trip will be a problem, either. We hope he has come on a bit for that run and he might have an each-way chance, though it is a competitive-looking race.

16.40 Down Royal - Dumbarton

He made a promising hurdling debut at Ballinrobe on his first run for us recently but he probably just got a bit tired towards the end of the race. He seems to have come on for the run and has been in good form at home since. Hopefully he should be up to winning races for us but he would like the ground to dry out a bit more. Martin Ferris rides him and he should run a decent race.

18.10 Down Royal - Beef To The Heels

This is his first run since May and it looks like a very competitive race so we're just looking for a decent run from him. He has a bit to find on ratings with a number of them and if there was much more rain we might not let him take his chance. He is a horse that will be going chasing shortly and hopefully he'll pay his way over fences.

18.40 Down Royal - Formal Bid

He hasn't been able to make the breakthrough over hurdles so far but he has been running okay and hopefully his time will come. He finished fourth in a maiden hurdle at this track last year when Paul Carberry, who is back on board today, rode him. He has slipped down the weights a little bit and if he could pick up some prize money we'd be happy.

19.15 Down Royal - Raajih

He has been very consistent recently, winning at Newton Abbot and finishing second on his three outings since. We're putting cheekpieces on him for the first time, hoping that they might give him an extra edge. This is his first run in a handicap hurdle in Ireland so we'll know where we stand with him after this. He won't mind the ground or the trip and we'll be disappointed if he is out of the money.

16.50 Killarney - Bigearsonmyright

He ran well to finish fifth on his hurdling debut at Tramore recently, running on well in the closing stages. He jumped a bit novicey there but he has schooled well at home since and should be better for that run. He could run into a place but he has almost 10 lengths to make up with Porterman, who finished runner-up to Mr Lando at Tramore, and he might find it difficult to reverse that form.

14:50 - South Wing

He has a couple of runs over fences under his belt and the reason we're sending him over to Worcester today is in the hope of getting better ground. The frustration with the weather continues - we went to Perth recently expecting good ground and it changed very quickly. Hopefully that won't happen here this afternoon. It's just a small field and though one of his rivals (Bobowen) is chasing a five-timer, he's in good shape at home and we're hopeful of a good run.

16:20 - Trendelenburg

He has been a bit disappointing over fences this season but he has had a wind operation since his last run (Down Royal, June 22) and hopefully that will prompt a return to form. On his best form he looks well treated and the drop back to hurdling shouldn't be a problem. He's also a little more versatile in terms of ground, so that won't be an issue and, touch wood, he should go very close.

My four runners at Perth

21 Aug 12 11:01
14:25 Perth - Cosmic Wonder

He was a little disappointing at Kilbeggan last time out but I don't think he acted around the track and it's probably best to ignore that run. Prior to that had been a model of consistency, finishing placed in a number of similar contests. He's probably a little unfortunate not to have won one at this stage but he's fit and well, and should run his race today. Whether or not that will be enough I don't know but hopefully he'll go close.

15:25 Perth - Jamsie Hall

His run in the Galway Plate was a non-event as he whipped around at the start and gave away all chance. We ran him again a couple of days later but the going had become too testing and so we're travelling over here in search of better ground this afternoon. He's going back over hurdles and he looks well treated relative to his mark over fences. Jason Maguire is booked to ride him and he should go well.

15:55 Perth - Tarquinius

He made his debut for us over hurdles at Kilbeggan last time but he was a bit disappointing. The sharp track probably wasn't to his liking so again it's a run we won't read too much into. Prior to that he had done all his running over fences and we're sending him back over the larger obstacles this afternoon, which should be more his territory.

The conditions should be fine and he has been working well at home so we're hoping for a better showing. He has to carry top weight but he could go well for Jason Maguire.

16:55 Perth - Romanesco

This is his first run for us. He won well over fences for Alison Thorpe last time out but we're starting him back over hurdles. All his winning to date has been over fences but he jumps hurdles very well. We haven't had him very long but he's in good nick and he doesn't look too badly treated so we'll be looking for a good run from him.

20:15 - Tarquinius

He's only a reserve for the three-mile chase. He made his debut for us over hurdles at Kilbeggan last month, but was never able to get involved there. All of his previous form was over fences and much of it on soft ground so if he runs, he shouldn't have a problem with conditions. It's still a bit of a learning process with him but hopefully he'll win races for us in time.

20:45 - Bold Revenge

He was very disappointing on his first run over hurdles as he had been working better for us than he showed in that race (seventh behind Zerashan at Downpatrick). He was runner-up in his two point-to-points prior to the Downpatrick race and he seems to be in good form at home at the moment. We're running him in a bumper this evening and it looks like it could be quite a good race but Nina Carberry rides him and we'll be looking for something more from him.

My Galway Hurdle Runners

02 Aug 12 09:14
16:50 - Plan A

He finished seventh in this race last year and the return to Galway has been the plan for some time now. Unfortunately, the ground has gone pretty soft and, while he doesn't need it fast, we would have preferred it to be a little less testing.

It's been a frustrating summer and having to pull Carlito Brigante out of yesterday's Plate was more evidence of that. But Plan A has been in very good form at home and he had a nice run on the flat at the Curragh when last seen, back in April.

He's fit and ready to go and with a bit of luck, he could be in the shake-up. He'll be our first runner for owner JP McManus, who bought him recently, and let's hope he runs a big race. Mark Walsh will ride him and is likely to ride him from mid-division, hope to keep out of trouble and see what happens after that.

It's as competitive a Galway Hurdle as ever but with some luck, hopefully he can improve on last year's run.

Cause Of Causes

All the entries have stood their ground and so he's first reserve for the Galway Hurdle. He doesn't want it testing but if he gets in we'll let him take his chance.

He has won a couple of races over hurdles since arriving over from France and is very much unexposed. The form of his last victory got a boost when sixth-placed Miradane went on to win at Ballinrobe and with his four-year-old allowance, he has a handy weight.

There should be plenty more to come from him and he's capable of a good run so let's hope he gets in and gets the chance to show it.

Discoteca

He ran here in the opening race on Monday evening but was a bit flat, finishing fourth behind Train Of Thought. He seems to be fine now and, as with Cause Of Causes, if he gets into the race he'll take his chance.

He has been very progressive over hurdles in the second half of the season, winning four times, and while some of those wins have come on testing ground, he would certainly prefer it to ride on the good side.

If he gets in, he'll need to show a bit more than he did on Monday but he has a lovely low weight and if showing his best, should go well.

15:35 Galway - Experimentalist

He is unlikely to run - we left him in this race in case anything happened last night. If he runs, it's the type of race he could go well in. He was placed on his last couple of starts over hurdles and the step up to two and a half miles shouldn't be a problem.

16:10 Galway - Bondage

We're stepping him up to three miles today and we think it should suit him. He has found his form in recent weeks and was probably a bit unlucky at Killarney last time out, where he didn't seem to get the best of runs. Davy Condon rides him and he'll probably sit tight on him early before trying to bring him through late. I think he's capable of getting into the frame.

17:25 Galway - Carlito Brigante

He made a winning debut over fences at Killarney back in May and while he was beaten a long way behind Dazzling Susie at Kilbeggan last time out, there were excuses as he returned distressed.
He has been working very well at home recently and even though he's inexperienced over fences, he is well worth a try in this company. He was a class act over hurdles and if he can produce his best, he could run very well.

The fear for him is that he is ground-dependent and the rain that has come is definitely against him. Adrian Heskin is in the saddle and he'll ride him towards the front of mid-division. You need plenty of luck in races as competitive as the Galway Plate but he has the ability, so hopefully he can get that luck today.

Jamsie Hall

He would also prefer good ground, though he's not as ground-dependent as Carlito Brigante. He ran very well in a Plate Trial at Limerick last time out (second behind Victrix Gale) and just managed to scrape in at the bottom of the weights for today's race.

Paddy Brennan rides him and he is likely to drop him out early and try to bring him along slowly. He should be staying on strongly in the closing stages and there's huge prize money on offer so hopefully he can get into it.

His Excellency

He is a reserve for the Plate but if he gets in we'll let him take his chance. He's two from two over fences and Davy Russell gave him a great ride to get him home in front at Killarney last time out.
He is still only a four-year-old and receives an allowance but he's a bit of a monkey. He has the ability to get involved and if he gets his chance and puts his best foot forward, he could run a big race.

17:55 Perth - Definite All Star

He's not certain to run as we ran him here yesterday evening and only left him in this race in case something happened there. He has been disappointing for much of the season but were he to take his chance in this company, he would be capable of going well.

Lord Redsgirth

Like Definite All Star, he's not a certain starter as he won at the track yesterday. On his best form he would be quite well in here. We'll make a late decision with both horses.

20:30 Perth - Athronan

She won her point to point back in May and she's quite lightly raced. She can be a bit tricky but on the form she showed at Downpatrick, where she finished second behind Hu Ha Jo, she should have a chance in today's race. Jason Maguire rides her and we're hoping she will pick up some prize money.

21:00 Perth - Western Bound

He has some good form at this track, including winning here twice last year and when just beaten in a claiming hurdle back in May. At 11 years of age he's not about to improve but he still looks capable of running well at this level. He has to carry top weight but he should have a good each-way chance. Timmy Murphy takes the mount.
