Know what you mean Rhino but there's a system to determine who "deserves" to be there - 8 guys did, Phil wasn't one of them. The picks are to get the guys on current form and Phil's not setting the world alight. Not saying Phil pick is wrong pick, but if Furyk was making all 4 picks next week he'd surely be on a shaky peg.
|

Do you think captains have external pressure placed on them to pick high profile players? Plenty of casual fans who wouldn't want to watch Xander vs Wallace, or Finau vs Rafa who would gladly sign up to watch Phil vs Henrik or Sergio.
|
|
By:
Not sure about external pressure, but it's always easier to play it safe and go with the established names rather than take any risks. I guess everyone expected Phil to get picked so if Phil plays like crap Jim will get less criticism than if he picks Xander and Xander plays like crap.

I've put down the money on Day. He's far too big a price compared to Rory and JT. Best putter out there, plus he's had the extra 2 days rest after the dell

Why is Xander Schauffele 2nd fav at 6.2 with a 2 shot lead?

Sounds like the course is in a bit of a state, and plenty more rain to come, could be a slog. Monday might be in play.

Any updates on when they might get going?
Will 72 definitely be completed? Cheers, |

And they're off.

Does anyone know the high street bookie rules re 2/3 ball betting?
I backed Thomas to beat Rory in a 2 ball, but now Day has been added to make it a 3 ball. My initial thoughts were that it's now a void bet, but rang the bookies for confirmation. The guy there told me the bet stands and it's a still head to head between Thomas and Rory, and Day's score will be disregarded. He didn't sound very convincing though. |

Pgatour website is absolutely dire for news updates. You'd really wonder how such an important website cannot get its act together
|
|
By:
no play before 5pm uk time
looks a washout today |
|

What happens if no play today and tomorrow? Rose win?
|
|

This tournament could possibly be over. Forecaster says potentially a window tomorrow morning but no guarantee. Could they play on Tuesday?
|
|
By:
If 50% finish by monday evening then the event must finish 72 holes(they once finished an event months after it started).
If less than 50% finish by monday evening then it is a 54 hole event. They have a window to play tomorrow morning but the afternoon looks dodgy with thunderstorms. |

seems unlikely to be only 54 holes. weather window tomorrow in the morning if the forecast is correct. can get in five- six hours of play before worse weather comes in.
failing that they will play tuesday. i recall listening to an interview with a high-ranking pga official (might have been the commissioner, I can't recall) some time ago and he said they will always try and finish a tournament unless they have no alternative. With so much at stake with the fedex cup and so on, I find it hard to believe they will just pick up sticks. ok there is a point beyond which they can't go, like thursday etc, but very much doubt it will come to that. |
|
By:
where did you see that mighty? I didn't know about that 50 percent rule.
just praying the forecast is correct and they can play monday morning. knowing my luck will be a wash-out ![]() |
|
By:
so you are saying if no play sunday or monday then they have to cancel any further play? seems ridiculous.

Rules officials could discuss other options if necessary (whatever that means). Would no tournament next week allow change of rules?
|

The worst-case scenario would be an early arrival of the heavier rains on an already soaked Aronimink course. Third-round play was pushed back five hours on Saturday due to 2 4/10ths inches of overnight/morning rain.
If play is pushed to Monday, Halvorson said there is a potential clear window of weather between 8 a.m.-2 p.m., followed by afternoon thunderstorms. “Still a tough forecast even though we do have a window,” Halvorson said. The possibility of a Tuesday finish also could be looming. If at least half the field finishes their final round by Monday, then PGA TOUR regulations dictate that the remainder of the field must also finish. If less than half the field finishes, then it would revert to the 54-hole leaderboard. Rules officials also could discuss other options if necessary. Not sure what the last sentence means - other options for a 72 hole comp or other options of finishing if the event if there are problems with tuesday |

The forecast is for heavy rain all afternoon and evening.
90% chance of rain at 6am hard to imagine how they get the course playable given it is already pretty saturated |
