Fredrik Andersson-Hed @ 110/1 E/W looks a solid start to me. Good performance last week. Has done OK here, and has had some good performances in the past at this time of year. Was very close at Gleneagles until a last round blip, so maybe likes the Scottish lemon light.

Kaymer at 27s was a big bet on his favourite course in the whole wide world.
|
|
By:
Kaymer price is criminal, Lowry at double the odds a better bet on all current form. Grace loves the links and Scotland, another at much better odds.

how times have changed--1000-1 nick dougherty 230 retief goosen 75 p harrington---570 darren clarke what prices would they have been for this just a few years ago

Deplaster, I am all over Kaymer. He was playing well again and St.Andrews is his favourite course in the world, always played well there. Oostie coming back from injury the other class act in the field so covered him. Like Wood, Donaldson, Grace, Willett, Uihlein and Sterne, for their links form. Casey I will cover then some jackpot bets.
Kaymer for me as the best golfer in the field at 26-1 is a great bet on his favourite course. |

Rory was my bet here every year, from 66s many years ago to 12s. This year have no idea how Schwartzel is fav. have taken a chance with a few large prices and like last week, who knows what the back 9 will bring!
The likes of Donaldson have huge Links form and this is quite an easy event considering the past class of the market leaders. Gonzo, WEbbo, Jacqo, Stormo, all running with a few otters |
|
By:
When the big names can start missing this event it says to me it is now too easy for them to play both tours. The tour is dying a slow death ,make them have to come to the Euro tour more often. If that means you lose them completely so be it.To many events count for both tours and the big names just come back to cherry pick the few big events Euro have and who can blame them.
The top of the market is pi$$ poor compared to previous years. |
|
By:
Yup. To be a member you should have to play a proper minimum. saying that, they'd all just then fk off to the PGA.
The Euro Tour is really no more than a satellite Tour for the PGA now. Interesting though how many come over to play the Challenge Tour though, even accepted they haven't qualified (for whatever reason) for the Web. However, frames, makes it far better from a punting perspective given basically anyone can win yet the odds are still framed (sorry) towards the big names (who aren't really that big anymore). On the negative, twenty quid in the market Thursday and Friday is a bit shoite |

ericthecat- Whilst he likes St Andrews, do you know what he thinks of Carnoustie and Kingsbarns ? |

I think OLESEN is MASSIVE @ 56's.....
OLESEN on all out attack mode could be a thing of beauty this week! |

7 cuts missed of last 11 bannahan, I wouldn't be putting the house on it!

This should be right up his street though Rhino.
He has got far too much natural talent not to get involved, and at the prices I think he is worth the risk. I may be wrong, no harm if that's the case but we'll see. |
|
By:
That's all it is about, the price. These players can all win. They don't go to permanent crap overnight and can crop up at anytime. Sure theres factors to consider but the amount of lesser names that go from a good month on the front page 66-1 to 25-1 that then go back to 80s after a few mc is amazing. The market just holds up with the names - look at Colsaerts last week. Permanently short yet confirmed to be afraid of being alone in front, meant plenty of players were overpriced.
With Olesen, clearly too good at the price when he is right. Not for me this week but only as at least 10 others have similar claims |
|
By:
Agreed DML.
On the flip side I always saw DUBUISSON as a play each week as I always thought he was often way overpriced. He has been on the skinny side lately which makes him now a no play for me. As you said, they can all do it, it's just certain prices that can stand out more than others. Opinions opinions.... That's what makes this punting lark what it is. |
|

The weather this week may be better than we have been watching in America over the past months. Might be a bit windy but scenery sure makes up for it and we will see some decent shot making. But we may have to wait to read Mr. Palmer's read on this competition for that little edge. He usually comes into his own from now to Dubai.

For what it is worth, I will be flying the Irish flag to start. Hoey has been very consistent, Clarke could do anything and Lowry is chomping at the bit. So that might be three tenners to start me off at decent odds. Won't break the bank either way. @Ski my old buddy.... on 2 points of information, How many passports does Rory hold. Answer. 2. Ernies young child is not disabled. Times have changed and those of us lucky enough to have special people in our families are happy to describe them as ''special needs''. No harm done.
|
|
By:
Sorry tobe.....as someone who IS labelled under the word 'disabled'.....i hate the words 'special needs'......it denotes sympathy, patronisation and paternalism. A lot of disabled people like me do not like it. A lot put up with the word 'disabled' as a header for all sort of disabilities but prefer to use whatever their actual disability IS. IE. Blind, Autism, Deaf, etc.......'special needs' can go in the 'semantics dustbin'

Latest news reported that Rory will be playing more events in the Euro tour next year.
He has committed to an event in the desert swing and the scottish open on the other hand he is likely to miss the PGA at wentworth. Hardly a big commitment. Most of the top guys have played a lot of golf over the last 2 months since the open. Can't blame anyone who played the fed ex cup skipping this week. The fact it is on multiple courses with a pro am format is unlikely to tempt players either. The euro tour should position itself as a more developmental tour rather than harbouring hopes for people who don't want to be there. A big problem for me is the race to dubai is based on money. The purses range vastly depending on the event. The WGC events and the majors have too much weighting especially the WGC events where they are closed limited fields. For me they would be better to have a points system with parity for each event. In recent years Grace and Bjorn have had multiple wins but not been in contention for the big prize. The tour should be rewarding those who play regularly with the chance to win the race 2 dubai. |

Charl Schwartzel & Stephen Gallagher for me.
Also had £20 on Ken Duke @ 300 If he takes to this type of golf and the weather is mild, 300 is huge for a player who has won on the PGA tour this season. |

Where is Thomas Bjorn? Thought he was sure to play this.

Went for the proven links players and two of which that have won in this format before:

Horrible tourney and don't usually do Euro tour, but with no PGA this week I'll have a dabble. Steve Webster has my interest, can't really have him winning but have taken top 5 and top 10. top 10 last week, last time he did that he followed up the week after. The prior time he did that he followed up again the week after so the form comes in bunches perhaps. 12th here last year and t18 the year before, enough for a small wager at the prices.
Good luck fellas. |

Not often in year we get links courses Rhino, for that reason I love it, but granted with celebs etc.. rounds can be 5 1/2 hours long and tv tends to stick to st Andrews coverage, so the euro tour leaderboard is the main focus point, god help us!
![]() Lumped on Grace for back to back. |

for punters having a bet on 1st round leader is there any distinct advantage to which of the 3 courses their selection is playing on?

Webbo loves this time of year. Italy, Portugal etc... Same can be said of Quiros who has his fave event next up, and is returning to form. Is too short though

By:
SA has to be the easiest, weather permitting.
Was Kingsbarns playing the toughest last year? I'd rather get a score on the board 1st up so an SA start has to be an advantage for me. |
|
By:
Carnoustie the toughest, by a long way.
Most, if not all of the favourites are opening on Carnoustie. |
|
By:
TV coverage will generally follow the top names so most of the coverage will be Carnoustie tomorrow. For whatever reason they reckon it's an advantage to play St.Andrews Sat,Sunday. The bigger names tend to get this draw.

|
By:
if you read The Punter he's got the stats to show coming from off the pace is tough and the SA/SA may be a myth

|
By:
Four par 5's at kingsbarns, that's were I'd be going for first round leader market and deffo stay away from carnasty.

I managed to "nick" some early value on Sunday night backing Fisher 42, Dyson 42 and Gallacher 60 on Betfair but at the bookmaker prices I wouldn't want to know. Now tee times are out things could get very interesting as Steve Rawlings has pointed out players who have to contend with Carnoustie first are at a huge disadvantage and that's where more or less all the favourites start. Don't forget this week all picks are 6 places with a bigger field.
Victor Dubuisson is my best bet of the week despite not having won on tour yet I see him as a very progressive player. He seems to play the same courses well year in year out and also appears to improve once he has gained some experience - as witnessed here where he has to master three courses - his form figures read mc/27/5 and he has the plumb draw of playing St Andrews first and early. He was third last time out in Crans - his third top five finish of the year and I think his w/d in Wales can be ignored as he had food poisoning - 0.6 ew 55/1 Tommy Fleetwood broke his tour duck last time he teed it up in Scotland and I don't think it will be the last time we see this confident young player in the winners enclosure. He has a good links pedigree having grown up in Southport and winning the 2009 Scottish amateur on the Murcar links and was 5th here in 2011 - there doesn't seem to be a lot of downside 0.5 ew 55/1 John Parry has missed his last two cuts although in Crans he struggled on day one having not played a practice round. Before that though he was 5th on the links at Castle Stuart and then 4th in Wales - so at least this year he won't have to go back to the Q school again. He seems to save his best golf for this time of the year and clearly likes links golf in Scotland as he was 3rd here in 2010 - 0.2 ew 125/1 Fredrik Andersson Hed strikes me as a streaky confidence player who once he finds his form tends to keep it at least for a few weeks. He was right in the mix at Gleneagles a few weeks ago until a poor final round and he can certainly play the Scottish links courses - 5th here last year and 2nd at Castle Stuart in the Scottish Open the year before. He had his best finish of the year last week in Italy when 4th and should be able to keep that momentum going 0.3 ew 110/1 Finally I will take a chance with Oliver Wilson who has found a bit of form on the Challenge Tour this month with a 2nd and a 5th. This was the scene of one of his many runner-up finishes back in 2009 - hopefully that will inspire him to keep his good run going 0.15 ew 200/1 |

Not a disadvantage if you shoot in the 60's tommorow and all the rest have to play it anyway.
