It certainly was`nt the brightest thing to say....
By:
he never said the N word
By:
So now we are not allowed to say "fried chicken"
FFS what is the world coming to ![]() |
By:
why would the Spaniard mention fried chicken in relation to Tiger
Is he known to frequent KFC on a regular basis. Tiger should knock the cnt out the next time they cross paths. |
By:
totaly agrre limited, everyone takes everyting as a slur against them.i think the reference to the fried chicken is more about it being a very american dish , not for whites or blacks.i dont think it was meant as a jibe about tigers skin colour for one moment , probably daft of serrgio to get involved in any verbals really.
By:
yep was 100% meant as racist i think sergio is making himself look more of fool by saying he didnt mean it that way and trying to play it down, fact of the matter is he knew what he meant and even tho its a very tame racial stereotype ect it still doesnt make it any less acceptable than calling him the N word.
and ofcourse you are allowed to say fried chicken but thats not the issue is it? Its all about context and you know it. |
By:
fried chicken is a racist slur.
garcia is not going to enjoy playing in America and will not be getting contracts renewed. the fool has already apologised for his non racist comment. knock him out tiger |
By:
he said it because its an american dish? you are joking right ?
By:
there we have it then, fried chicken is now a racist remark, what about cheese on toast does that offend anyone in particular.?
By:
is it not generally and american dish?
By:
fried chicken , mash spuds and corn, is that not as american as it gets , apart from burgers.
By:
sickoflayingwinners i dont know where you are from but in america fried chicken is a very well known sterotype and used as a racist remark towards black people, not so much in other parts of the world but it has things relating back to slavery and black opression so it has history there more than other places, no doubt sergio is aware of this.
100% that is why he said it, it was all to do with tiger being a black guy |
By:
meng i respect your opinion(we are all entitled to one)but i have to totally dissagree that its a eaten aymore but blacl people than white, its a very traditional meal. i say if woods found that offensive then hes esily upset. if that was the worse kind of verbal abuse hes had to suffer then hes had a pretty easy life.ive had many worse things sid about/to me as id guess most of us on here have abd its water of a ducks back.
By:
oh im from england if it makes any difference to my view or if in fact it makes me racist.
By:
finger lickin' good
By:
i love fried chicken (i wish i didnt as i could do with losing a couple of stone) and im white,
By:
yes its probably eaten more by white people nowadays i would say, but thats not the point, its a stereotype dating back to slavery in america and is used as a very common racial slur there, same as with watermelon ect
On one level i agree its not the worst thing in the world to say, bit like saying irish are always drunk which people laugh off, then things that are in the same vein like Jews are greedy tend to slip into unacceptable because of the history behind it rather than what it means today. If it had been someone else sergio has been asked about who was american but white im sure he wouldnt have said friend chicken.Thinking anything else is just kidding yourself. anyway im done on the subject as this is a golf forum. cheers for the opinions |
By:

By:
whats the odds sergio will have the red KFC logo on his cap in a mega sponsorship deal
By:
goodnight chaps ,im off to bed as i feel myself weaking for something nice to eat.
By:
Got to agree with meng here. Garcia knew where he was going with that comment. It is a very sly dig, that on the surface may seem innocent.
By:
It's the same as the Fuzzy Zoeller comment in 1997. If you are not aware of fried chicken being a racial insult in America then that is understandable but Garcia clearly knows, and that's why he said it. Surprised and a bit disappointed as he always seems a nice enough chap, but the backlash will go far beyond how bad the comment was. This will hang over Sergio forever.
By:
The world has gone politically correct mad Jesus you can't say anything anymore.
Must admit I love Sergio as he says what he feels but the society we live in doesn't tolerate that . Just tolerates 2 faced people being politically correct, sad really |
By:
GARCIA looks like a chicken and has the intellegence of a pigeon, and can't handle being a professional loser.
By:
The word is not the thing.
By:
THE WORLD GONE MAD - these people 'offended' by it all amazing stuff !!! big chip on shoulder
just not a big enough guy to laugh it off - but then he is hardly clean is he!!?? all that fkn around - some great family man and an example to all!!??? I think not. |
By:
can Tiger call SErgio a spic?
By:
there are a lot of comments on other forums also using Tigers past transgressions in sergios defense, does him cheating on his wife ect give people the right to say things about him?
I'm not saying Sergio said the worst thing in the world but the excuse that its ok because Tiger is a bad person is clearly wrong. Using the fried chicken thing in america is seen as a racist stereotype and its already been said its not so much the words but the itent and context of how they are used. Sergio wouldn't be saying he couldn't sleep and admitted he was wrong if deep down he thought he wasn't making a racist comment. |
By:
i suppose that we british now think racial slurs are about the worst things we can do and they are more or less taboo
however we judge others by our new found correctness the recent fuss over reginald hunter shows we havnt quite grasped it all yet sergio will have to play in the usa and his reception there will be interesting ! |
By:
we have all said things when we have had a drink---an deeply regret it
By:
but we are not in the media and have a duty to watch our behaviour.
I promise you that if you give me 2 mill a year based on having a responsibility to sponsors, the sport that made my rich etc , I will watch what I say in public. |
By:
Hasn't La Liga had countless racism issues over the issues? I seem to remember Etoo in his Mallorca days having bananas thrown at him... Seems to be major problems in Spain
By:
do you think Garcia knew what he was saying?
He. Looked devastated in morning |
By:
Tough shyt. Spoilt brat.
By:
ok done--no mercy
