its an interpretation. two weeks ago Horsey was done a shot for moving the ball 0.12mm forward when addressing his putt for birdie when chasing down Siem. Its a rule, he broke it. Whilst that is a disaster for some, what would they do if it had been Leishman or the like?

Tiger's situation and Guan Tianlang's are fairly similar in that the latter was warned, he was on the clock and took too long so the official took too long. Tiger either has or hasn't broken a rule and again there will be no choice, once the ruling is decided they'll stick to the decision. The issue is what is the ruling?

I suppose it will come down to interpretation of nearby. Say he's on the fringes of a bush, has a hack at it, scuttles it in hazard, then drops nearby where he was, 2 yds away so he now has a clear swing at it. I thought the whole point of you dropping from where you played your last shot was to drop at that place or within a few inches or a foot, not interpret where you decide nearby is. So would 3 yds be ok? How about 25?

Getting the feeling in my guts that 2 yards may not be ''close approximation''.......the rules needs to be a bit more clearer in this case and the penalty for slow playing needs to have a fixed time.

does 'as near as possible' mean you've basically got to drop it in your divot hole?? there's got to be a reasonable tolerance here, I've got no problem with where he dropped it, this would be a total non-issue if he doesn't mention it in the interview. It's only because of what he said that this has got picked up, he can easily change his story, can you really be DQ for something you've said?

I personally think this is an awful episode and all from a perfect shot for the third. Its either a great bet at 7.6 or isnt!!? |
