Well i did say 'suspect'......maybe he wasn't aware of the advantage of rule 26 until ogilvy told him.

If you watch it again......westwood was in the water testing his swing and was discussing something with his caddie......ogilvy was seen to be pointing out the line and pointing out where he can drop the ball.......westwood then did what ogilvy pointed out.....so one had to wonder if ogilvy said nothing......what would westwood have done?

Why the hell was he contemplating playing from the hazard then on 5. Perhaps he thought he could make par. Dont think so.

Clearly didnt know he could drop it on the green before Ogilvy told him.

Doea anyone really think the ball was over the green at any stage? I don't care what angle the camera was at the ball was clearly traveling outside the green the whole time. McDowell played the same bad shot and had to play his 3rd from 150 yards away. Even the sky commentators who were trying to back westwood were very dubious of his right to drop. I have watched golf on tv for 15 years and have seen players disqualified for accidental infringements were no advantage was gained.  This was the worst infringement i have seen and was either a case blatant cheating or the player making a bad error. Just because the rules official was brought in does not make it ok as he had to go by what he was told by westwood.

It doesn't matter whether the ball was over the green.......the point of lateral water hazard defined by red post/line is that you can drop it on either side of the hazard......yellow post/line.....you can only drop it on the side the ball crossed the line.

rule 26-1.c (ii) - a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole.....westwood crossed the first red line and because the 'lake' was curved round he dropped it on the opposite side.....

What red line did he cross? He had to cross the green to drop where he did. Do you know anything about golf?

All water hazard are defined by yellow or red posts/line.

Yes i do know a lot about golf.....don't you have a rule book....if so read rule 26-1.c (ii)

Ski, you're thicker than a castle wall. Stop embarrassing yourself.

Ouspenski.......are you serious?......nothing better to do?.......you've just embarrassed yourself big time......if i'm wrong then westwood should be disqualified....is westwood disqualified?......so far no....get it, no...NO....

Why did McDowell who played the same shot drop from 150 yards away? Does he not know the rules either?

The drop looked very iffy i have to admit. Ski is right in what he says but if the ball did cross the red line it was surely further back where it jutted in.

Once you get the ref involved with the incident your are fine if he agrees.

I didn't see that one so can't comment on it.....unless you can put up a video clip of that hole.

I agree it does look very iffy........most lateral water hazard tend to be a straight line....in this case it was a 'lake' hence the hazard was round. It does seems unfair when you are watching it and i can sympathise with those on here who thinks it's 'wrong'....but rules are rules.

My only query is ogilvy....did he offer advice under rule 8-1 a ?

According to shot tracker McDowell was 171 yards to water 14 yards to hole. Westwood was 175 yards to water 18 yards to hole. They were on practically the same line but westwood hit it further.

Cos he is playing solid, has low ball flight, lowest ranking player on leaderboard.  under par on the day.

i'm awake! and looks like i've awoken to westwoodgate...

dammit i woke up too late to lay thompson before the 4th hole. i noticed last night he has bogeyed that hole everyday. he has been solid from 5th to the 9th tho.

Westwood does not have a low ball flight,  he has a high cut.

wont matter as his implosion has started already on what is a very tough course
