Fair play to Palmer in picking Santos for the Madeira Islands event.Credit where it's due.I never had a bet on the tournament myself as it looked a minefield and i'm glad i did't bother.Santos had played this course three times with form figures of :2008-70th...2007-52nd...and 66th in 2006.He only broke 70 once in those 12 rounds,so well done to Palmer and any others who managed to fish him out.

had a bet at 80-1 but only doing £1 each way to see how it goes this season and also did the same last season
my max at bet3.65 was 0.62 pence i have written an e-mail to the racing post to forward onto steve palmer pointing out this fact

Bruce M is saying on Twitter that Palmer has a double on Santos and Johnson (and poss Kuchar too?) - the thing that bothers me is how he only says he has one double in his column and yet these two were his 5th and 3rd picks in each comp.
The same thing happened in this weeks column too. He's done well to find the winners, and I'd usually give him the benefit of the doubt, but unless he's had 25 ew doubles this week it doesn't add up.........

Eh gamblers tend to bend the truth. He wouldn't have mentioned it if they both missed the cut, that's the problem.

we had this discussion a few weeks back, some thought it preposterous and absurd to play 25 e/w bubbles others could see the merit. If it was to cost £20 a pip and a bag week then so be it in my eyes.He specialises in golf and should use his bank for it.Leave the corners, bookings and footy boredom bets alone. If it is £2 units its still a possible good pick up.All stakes are relative to ones betting bank obviously. My argument is that he is good and regularly gets placings. This could be the good week that cops and actually gives him a workable kitty. An 80/1 winner and Kuchar a probable winner along with Zach to place makes future punting seem very attractive.Still think he needs to go with 3 each tourny or 3 and 4 at most whereby a placed 20s and 12s placed covers the bet at worst.

2 weeks running he could have hit it big time or rather this week massive.Molinari with Fowler and with Simpson placing and this week Santos and Kooch plus Zach.Give him his due it is proper tipping.I do wonder if he still wins on the week though with his punting on everything televised.

I am playing devils advocate now Donny, I was being sincere the other week saying he should trust his judgement and try to maximise profits.Yes the outlay may have been £1k a week but it has copped twice now within a month and this week it would have been the best part of £100k.I think there may only be Funerals to attend now for Palmer. I'm still trying and I still can't get my 500/1 double let alone 4500ish. If anybody has followed him and copped they will be betting to pence forthwith. Being level over the last 10 years isn't an issue if he did land a touch. I should have followed him out of badness for £2s but don't follow anybody, even if I know they are more than good. Silly me.

impossible you,d have lost your house years ago following palmer with multiple doubles,it was only 18 months ago when he went weeks on end without paying rent ,nightouts etc, welching off his mates, with ordinary living expenses living down south you,d need a job paying 250 grand net to consider laying out a grand a week plus on a bet

by the way i backed zach and cooch ew ,and like me plmer probably been backing them all season, must have been a sickner for anyone finishing 3 shots off the winner and not getting out 1st 6, Cry

That 80/1 rag he picked in the European event was the real masterstroke to be honest, picking kuchar is something he does about 25% of the time kooch is in a tournament and a lot of people must have had kuchar in their bets, not so many on Santos at 80s!

1st time poster, the past is history. We all move on in our betting and strategies. He hits a lot of places this season. He has just hit pay dirt and I really doubt it has changed his life 'cos he was probably a bit light after geegees, footy, snooker, baseball, ice hockey, spoof and pitch and toss.I only recently thought he was getting good.Don't know which box he ignores completely but Santos can only be inspired. There has to be a reason in his method.

A hardened gambler doesn't need a £250k pot to bet a bag a week on his area. Many punt more on footy or rugby and have £50k banks top whack. Betting to 1% or 5% is mythical, generally they bet to what they can get on. Look at Findlays punt on NZ,if he laid out over £3mill as is accepted then did he really have a £60mill punting pot? Of course not,he is a punter,a gambler who hit pay dirt for a while. He also lived the dream.

Donny indeed I doubt he doubles again this year........but he might if he has a couple wandering around left field. Personally I still want my first cross tour winning double.

Interesting if unsurprising bookie quotes on back page of Post today regarding the Palmer effect on each way doubles markets - not going to be any easier getting on his selections even for small stakes...certainly not in the short term...

When he had a bit of money he was doing huge ew accas. I think he even did one for £500 ew with one of the players ending up failing to make the cut!  May have 'just' been £250 ew though, my memory isn't that great!

If he had a decent staking plan/strategy and stuck to golf only he could have made it as a pro gambler by now.

Having to fill up a weeky betting diary every week probably didn't help his cause much, he probably felt like he had to bet on quite a few sports to make it interesting. He always says if he forms an opinion on something he feels compelled to bet on it.

RP golf tipping in outrights only for us and euro tour - and taking palmers not chapmans selections for the masters and the players - reads +201 points profit with the byron nelson to come (which he'll probably strike a blank with, so it'll be down to +186 for the year - not bad)

I've seen different figures quoted (prior to this weekend)

Profitable Tournaments 12/33
Stake 420pts
Profit/Loss +7.12pts ( 2% profit on turnover)

Bit of a difference from +201 points
