but to do a fair comparison i can only take the 2 year time frame provided, i dont have an app to calculate everybody's results since tigers latest comeback, so ive done an average over the period there is a facility on the ranking site to see points gained in 2018 and if you click on it , ..it reorders the players by ranking points gained in 2018 |

certainly tiger at his peak was a level or two above what anyone around now is capable of. also he had cajones under pressure that they could only dream about. you could make arguments for players in the past like nicklaus of course.

the bogey, double start on thursday ultimately cost Tiger but another great performance in a major - great to see him in the mix on the back nine on sunday.

Much of the stuff in this thread is misguided.
Tiger has no points to lose from last year so has to do this over mush of a 2 year period. He has gained the 16th best total of points in 2018, so that (not 4th) is probably the best assessment of where he currently ranks. To get to Number 1, you have to win and keep winning tournaments - even Luke Donald did this - or have stellar non-winning performances in pretty much every major and WGC over at least a year. DJ currently has 460 points which is pretty typical (Tiger was consistently over 600 in the halcyon days of 2001-02), sole 2nd in 8 majors over a 2 year period would give you 480 points before the decrementing for all but the most recent 13 weeks, so without winning you need to do very very well very consistently. It is great to see a fit fighting Tiger back but he has some way to go be be close to Number 1. |

In January 2001 Tiger's points were 28.8 nearly three times as many as Ernie Els in second.
After he won the Us Open on one leg Tigers ranking was 20.68 Adam Scott was third with a total 5.857! Wessex is right that he has accrued the 16th most points this year although he will get a boost from being eligible for WGC events going forwards which carry big points and limited fields. To get back to number one it is wins and high finishes that are required but of the current bunch we are not getting the 6, 7, 8 or 9 wins in a season rather 3 or 4 so it is possible. There isn't currently a player who is consistently better than the rest 5 or 6 wins over a 2 year period with some consistent form can get you to the top. |

From 1199 to 13 in 9 months. Assuming his body stays healthy he will surely have another 6 years at the top so the no.1 spot and more majors(even 5 more!) are back on the table.

he's just better than the other players, even if the overall standard has arguably gone up (some would argue otherwise) in his peak. amazing ability to strike the golf ball and seems to have this uncanny ability to hole putts from everywhere when he's on. reminds me of spieth that, although spieth doesn't hit the ball as well as tiger does. whether he can win 18 majors, who knows. think he will have to have a year where he wins more than one to get there, that's just my view, although his good friend mark o meara won two in his early forties, so if he can tiger certainly can. next year is huge for tiger i feel he has to build on this momentum and win another major, the scary thing for the opposition is that he will only get better |

Stock Exchange needs to lift it's game when Tiger wins Dow Jones goes up. . not down !! The Golf Industry trends have slowed and are now moving north again. Tiger undoubtedly the biggest Marketable Commodity in Golf by miles. Geez Golf companies were sweating bullets,thinking we gotta hope for the Orange kid(RF) or the British Mullet(TF)to revitalize the Industry. Might even cause some to swap the flag at Le Golf National this week. What if the Tiger,Tiger chant out decibel's the Usa,Usa chant. |

Win - guaranteed to move to #6 Solo 2nd - as high as #8 Solo 3rd - as high as #9 Solo 5th - as high as #9 A 2-way T7 finish is the minimum he needs to start having a chance to make it into the top 10. Last time Tiger was in Top 10 was following the 2014 WGC-Bridgestone where he withdrew. He was 10th and fell outside the following week. |

All the way up to no 6 with an average point total of 7.73. If you divided his total events though by the 26 he has played and not the minimum 40 though, his average is 11.90 which would be clear number 1 in the world.

The third round has been the one for Tiger in the last three majors, shooting 66 at Carnoustie, 66 at Bellerive and 67 at Augusta for an aggregate -14 -- the best score to par of any player..... Cue a 64
