Having read it again,I agree with you curlywurly.

Week 1 you pay no PC but get a rebate.

Others on Twitter are saying they've also been told that losses DO count towards PC calc.

After Wednesday's football I had about £700 profit not covered by
commission generated. No plans to have any futher bets this week.

The choice is bank £420 or place £700 bets on Rugby until I pick a loser.

They have obviously chosen a 'minor' sport to see how the experiment goes. Clearly, they couldn't start with football or racing.

They say it is part of a general review of the pricing/commission structure.

I'd expect a big initial jump in rugby turnover as people churn/arb/try to lose here and win elsewhere.

Whether the increase is maintained until next June is another matter.

Half price bets on Rugby for PC payers on winning weeks.  Sounds like a win win for PC payers and rugby market liquidity.

It certainly has potential.

Say you're £5k up on the week - whack it all on rugby and take the opposite bet elsewhere.

If betfair bet wins, no damage done. If betfair bet loses, happy days.

Hopefully, the d@q will crank up their in-house bots on rugby.

I can't believe they're going to offset rugby losses against PC but not count wins for it. That's not far short of scrapping it completely.

I'd get that double checked.

That can't be right can it ? Where's the hitch ??

Everybody will pile into the Rugby Union markets to try to offset the P/C for the week by backing the opposite result with other firms/exchanges.........some will succeed Crazy

if the MO markets are efficient, they wouldn't even need to arb elsewhere. they'd just need to bet against each other.

not really.  Betfair aren't losing out - they'll make more from commissions and get stronger in these markets.  Great move all round.

E-mailed initially to those who have paid the premium charge on rugby.

Other PC payers will receive notification soon, probably via the 'PC newsletter'

it's hard to believe they've thought the implications of this through.

Well turned over 8% of this market and not bet on Rugby union much before

If a large amount of PC payers use it as a way of reducing liability then I can't see how Betfair won't lose out hence my scepticism. It would take alot of 'new' money to balance out the PC losses.

I've had no email, don't bet on rugby and have no idea what the PC newsletter is! I'll see how it turns out before getting involved.

sure, they will lose some of the PC but they'll gain the 5% commission and a HUGE amount of good faith and loyalty - 100k market I guess they might earn 1% so £100 gained.  maybe a few hundred lost with PC?

By:

When: 27 Sep 13 17:27
A few hundred? I'd be trying to save £200 every week and I'm not on the higher rates or a big hitter.
