Very sensible writing off Maunsell's.    In all honesty, and given how clueless you've been in many of the many bets you've taken, I think you can consider £20 up to be quite fortunate!

i saw ur post on footie forum.. u r left with £20.. do u think u will win anything with that or you will put it all on spurs or celtic tomorrow...

my advice - withdraw the 20, buy a nice bottle of wine and dinner.. and enjoy.. exclude yourself from betfair.. its not worth the time...

A lot of truth to what Ocean says. You have to want to find yourself an edge through learning about at least one aspect in some depth. If you're not prepared to do that then you might as well call it a day, as you have no chance of making this pay good money (or even not-so-good money) in the long term.

You can still walk away with your head held moderately high - it could have been a lot worse than £20 up...  (And might well be if you're not careful!)

not full time, i can never be... i am over this whole betting stuff.. not worth the time.. better to do something far more constructive with life.. study, travel, family.. lot of options..

spot on ocean. quite a drug though. why 6 more months?

LB if i revealed my july bets it would be a different story but yeh since 1st august not too bad. although i could have worked for 2 hrs in an office and earned the same Sad

6 months because i am using a model which i developed last year.. i am hopeful it will get me good returns.. might as well give it a try.. who knows it will sponsor my holiday..

Indeed Paul. You have to make a choice as to whether you really want to put in the work needed to make betting succeed (you haven't shown any sign yet that you want to). My honest opinion is that you'd be better off concentrating on a more normal 9-5 job.

Hmmm... Difficult to turn any of those things into day jobs.  (I'm guessing you're not cut out to be a film journalist!!)

Perhaps you should just spend your nights doing those things rather than sitting here arguing with us weirdos!

nice that we're getting on tonight LB.

why you think im not cut our as a film journo? Laugh
By:
LordBobbbin
When: 14 Sep 11 22:52
Because being a film journalist is hard. You have to be able to write extremely well and you have to have a very strong in-depth knowledge of films over the decades. (I know this because I tried to become a film journo myself.)  And if you liked films and were cut out to be a film journalist, my guess is you would already be working towards that end and would have said so.

But hey, it might be an idea you've never considered before..
By:

probably not for me.

hey i have considered being a croupier (i know undern did this and this isnt the reason Laugh) i used to gamble at melbourne and cairns where i think he worked before my betfair days would you believe. i did very well at cairns one night. not so good at the crown in melbourne over a few weeks lol.

also would like to work in the gambling or horse racing industry somehow i think Confused

Have you applied for jobs in bookmakers?  (You do at least now know what EP means, so they can't catch you out there!!)

I wouldn't know how you'd go about being a croupier but, as you suggest, Undern will have a good idea. Now that's a sensible question he might be prepared to answer for you.  I can see being a croupier appealing to you. You'd get the excitement of the gambling (which you do obviously seem to like) without needing to be a successful gambler!!

Go on, go and ask Undern nicely how you become a croupier.

Here are a few links. Apparently good mental arithmetic skills are needed. How's your maths Paulie?

I'm sure Undern would be more forthcoming if you asked him a proper question, Paul!

And you can always remind him that if you start training to become a croupier and get your fix there, you'll probably be coming on Betfair less and won't be bothering him as frequently! Laugh

Me??  Why am I relevant?

My main interest is reading and learning about things. (Pretty much anything. History, myths, architecture, trading etc.)

I like fiction. And I'm trying to teach myself to write better.

So a bit of reading accompanied by a bit of betting/trading. That makes for an interesting day as far as I'm concerned.

fair enough. i love history too.

why would you ask me what im into then say "why am i relevant" when i return the favour?
