That's a bit harsh to say Coolhand's analysis is a total waste of time, Undern. Surely it has some merit?

Coolhand is drawing your attention to the fact that most of your big losses came in races where the form is patchy. There may well be some fantastic factors unknown to us that you use to pick out winners in races where there's very little form to go on. It could be that the recent races have just been unlucky.    On the other hand, it could be that you don't have a good record in those types of race (as few of us do), and that if you just stayed away from those types of race, you'd rach your 100K more quickly?

Coolhand might be incorrect and you might be sizzling over patchy-form races. But to call it a total waste of time seems a little unfair...

i am a stats man and i like to analyse my bets from different angles.. whether something constructive comes out of it and i stick to it is not the case always but its fun understanding and finding a pattern.. if u want u can put ur 3 month horses pnl in google docs and surely someone like coolhand can give u the right pointers..

i guess u do realise that everyone wants u to succeed and r offering help... gl

LordBobbbin - you seem to have a good understanding of my challenge, the personal factors of going through the ups and downs of it all, the issue of betting based on the things I look for in certain markets, the aim to do it on my own etc .... it is a journey for me and me alone ...

You have also hit the nail on the head - now in some football bets I have backed the 0-0 score straight after a red card. Now independent of whether I win or lose - I do it based on certain factors I consider and how I feel the match will pan out. How can someone then give me feeback suggesting how could I bet in that market - when I am basing my decisions on factors I am comfortable with.

interesting topic.

Well Coolhand wasn't telling you how to bet (and I certainly don't go along with Ocean's idea that you should give all your data to Coolhand so that he can analyse it and 'give you a few pointers' - I know that's not the way you want to operate things, and it's a little condescending of Ocean to suggest that it might be).

However, I think there's nothing wrong with somebody drawing their attention to the fact that you're losing a lot more in one particular type of race than in anything else. It could be that the factors you use to size up a maiden aren't as effective as the factors that you use to size up other events. There's no harm in somebody flagging that up. And it might even have some truth to it?

Ocean, what Coolhand did to annoy Paul so much was to put up this message on the 'Professional punters...anyone here' thread. And then he refused to reply to Paul's persistent private messages about it, despite Paul's many demands that he do so.   Quite funny if you ask me..  (Particularly given that Paul, of all people, had just posted a message laughing at somebody else for being treated as idiotic.)

prove its your favourite post of the day paulme.

Yep taken the wrong way Shocked Coolhand ... just wish had the nice flow of words that you do LB.

It is a total waste of time from Coolhand's side (more than mine) ... I just knew when I wrote that bit it would be taken the wrong way ....

It is of limited benefit to me (in all honesty) ... because as far as the person providing the feedback knew two of the races in question could have say been done in by poor tactical ride or literally done on the line - nothing to do with limited form, wrong market moves or anything else

... therefore to raise these points just because they were losing bets is limited in it's benefit (and hence I would consider it a waste of Coolhand's time to provide feedback at all)

nothing against Coolhand at all. Perhaps people who are wishing to provide feedback look at it from whether what they are saying truely will help me out - and in an honest comment I genuinely don't think it does simply because all the factors aren't (and could never be) fully considered ...

I am actually quite a nice guy .... so I am desperately trying to explain myself in a way they doesn't offend people especially people taking interest in the challenge but I sense I am falling short ... Plain

Well Ocean, I understand that some may see this as a collaborative process. However, it's clear that Undern doesn't want other people to feel they have an almost equal stake in how he trades.  I think he was a bit off to dismiss Coolhand's analysis as being a waste of time. In general, though, I think he's quite entitled in telling people that he doesn't want all of their comments on every aspect of his trading. It's not as though he hasn't been consistent in this approach!

The above post (LB's) principally outlines my view - and that is quite simply this is my challenge, my money and (rightly or wrongly) I wish to succeed or fail based on my own decisions.

As for dismissing Coolhand's - I consider more a waste of his time than mine. I do see that it may alert me to a potential flaw in my betting in those particular races but I already do this ....

Undern,
I didnt take it the wrong way, i wished you all the best with sincerity, i completely understand that this challenge is yours, and its your money and time, but like LordBobbin said, there can be times when discussion and debate over methods can help.

I would not suggest sending anyone your lifetimes P/L broken down into bets, i think only you can truly analyse this, and it would possibly hinder you if you had someone over your shoulder looking and examining to the nth degree, if you are analysing where you have gone wrong in the past then that is the only way you can improve and learn from mistakes, but if someone else is then the chance are you wont understand or recognise when you are making the same poor decisions, which we all make at times.

As you say only you know the circumstances of a bet you struck and the reasons why, but there can be useful discussion around that, and if someone here thought you were chasing, or overstaking, and commented such, and you had a feeling that was the case, then it might make you stop, take a breath, and might save you making another bad decision, of course it might not.

Im pretty sure everyone following the blog wants you to do well, and reading through the blog it has helped me, and certainly made me more focused at times, and made some of my opinions more concrete, if that makes sense, so thank you, when i have made a comment i have wanted to add something, return the favour almost, much like i felt with Acornel and DFCs 'My challenge (horses and foot in parallel)' thread.

So good luck again, ill continue to follow with interest.

Stop this childish nonsense Paul. People here care about good information. They don't care about your pathetic behaviour.  Have a sense of humour about it, for god's sake.   I've been called various things by people on other threads, but I haven't pursued them continuously for days.  Coolhand won't stop posting because of you, and nor should he. It's time for this to stop.

thanks Coolhand for taking the time to post. I do fully realise there are some merits in having others pass comment ...

but equally deep down I think we all know when we are lets say self-exploding or pushing too hard with our betting and this is where I aim to self-learn in order to recognise what triggers me and more importantly the steps i need to take in backing off ...

I certainly don't like all eyes on me ... and I know in the past Paulme's constant monitoring from his work place and the occasional post passing comment about how much that loss was ... has been extremely off putting and has added in some ways to a couple of poor days in the past ...

all the best Coolhand.

Well I imagine he's just got an impression about you based on your countless postings.

You should be very circumspect about who you speak to and what you say. And if you can't handle the rough and tumble then the forum isn't really the place for you. Believe me, I've seen people on Betfair be treated 30 times more badly than you have ever been. (I've seen some people be almost literally ripped apart, just for saying slightly the wrong thing to the wrong group of posters.)

Now, please, stop posting this nonsense.   Let it rest.

That really is a poor attitude to have Paulme. This issue about worth/posting up bets/how wealthy someone is ... is simply ridiculous.

I would be very surprised if anyone posts a reply to you again let alone offer some genuine advice. Look what you did to Lord Bobbbin - he was one of the most sincere guys I have 'met' on here.

I for one won't be replying to you on any thread from now on - I am sure many people on BF hope you stay on here as they would be chomping at the bit to take your money off you ....

Paulme - I wrote this comment on your challenge thread and I plan on sticking to it .... all the best with your betting Paulme.

Well the good news is I managed to increase the bank which is pleasing.

However this comes with bad news - firstly firstly I have sinced wasted around £880 on two rugby bets this morning which lets just say didn't go my way (Tonga -6.5pts and Scotland -17.5pts). Just for clarity these two bets aren't allowed for in the 13th Sept figure below so right this minute the bank has gone down to £11K.

The second bad news is in the way I was able to get the bank increase - quite simply I am playing much too heavily and doing some chasing (I would call it controlled chasing but never the less it is the wrong thing to do) simply because I have found myself taking a hit on something that I either shouldn't have got involved in or didn't do enough research on.

Ever since I hit that high of a bit over £16K a while back - I have felt controlled in some facets of betting but completely uncontrolled in other ways. Like in the tennis over the last week - I have had some really good calls but equally ones that have gone wrong which you then embed yourself in this mindset yep I have a big enough bank I will simply bet bigger to get myself back on track ....

It was clear as mud yesterday for me - some good results early on then I lost £200 bet so then I figured I would bet heavy £800 on a tennis (fav in a women's match) in order to recoup and more ... all went wrong so then found myself betting much too heavy on the football matches last night - back draw/win Arsenal and layed Barca when they went down a goal. Could have easily gone completely t1ts up (well I was already accepting a hit on the Barca game actually) ... which simply all game to getting involved in something I shouldn't have and much too higher stakes. Even so I continue by doing the bets this morning on the Rugby

When I first started this challenge with a balance of £2.5K I was looking to win say £6 each horse race (as an example) and quite simply I am sometimes looking to win too much (which is principally staking too highly). I need to get back to a sensible medium and think in terms of small wins add up to a nice profit as opposed to trying to chase wins in the £100 - £1000 mark. I did look to have bets no bigger than 1-3% of the bank but although early on I stuck to this these things always tend to be chucked out the window when the going gets tough.

As I have pointed out in the past - it is great when things are running smoothly but it's how you handle the bad times is the key to long lasting success. Let's just say I am hanging in their and still proud in what I have achieved thus far - but sense at anytime I could simply bet too heavily and on the wrong thing which could trigger a drop which I may not have enough composure and clear mind to get myself out of.

Some might say what you talking about when you have just made £1600 in one day .... but I assure you it is the probably more important from a longetivity viewpoint if I made £50 in a day knowing that I kept within certain betting paramaters as opposed to £1600 knowing I lumped too big on some football bets (which could have gone easily the other way) because I lumped on a tennis bet earlier simply because I lost a couple hundred pounds on a horse race.

I am sure some may understand where I am coming from while others would have no idea.

Sir_Bond - so what if it's a public forum.

You're not obligated to post - I don't post on your thread that you started a while back about how you lost all this money and was effectively blocked from using BF since other users reported you for the desperate actions you found yourself having to do to get you out of the gutter .... Confused
