... def don't cut anyone down who asks questions either hard or soft.

I already post up a daily thread update which shows me exactly how much I have increased my bank so it is nor here not there for me - I also tend to know how well I have done in different markets. I

t is simply all down to pleasing others which I have been helpful in the past but always question why I am bothering ...

Quite simply I could quite easily make up the p&l figures Jamesdean for each and every day - you wouldn't know one way or the other .....

so yep don't mind questions when I sense the contributor is genuinely thinking of me as opposed to questioning what I do and when I do it simply because it doesn't fit in with them ..

You might get some useful "feedback" U if you post the P & L at end of day. Observers might see something that can be useful to you. As it is there are just many bets from page to page .....and you can't really see "patterns" where you go off rails a bit .....  The P & L also makes your thread more "interesting" for us in cheap seats! Cool

Only takes a few seconds to post ....and don't really see why you don't .

GL with thread.

I agree with DFC, its great you are posting here on a public forum, but if it is just for you then you could might as well do it in a word document, but by posting on a public forum it does open the floor for people to contribute their thoughts, advice, criticism, which can all help.

A proper run down of P/L, which you may be doing already, could also help you identify areas of strength, areas of weakness, poor decisions, good decisions, or bets where you overstaked and whether they followed a few losing bets.

As you say its entirely up to you, its your challenge, its your money, but there may be people on here who have words of advice or encouragement, and may help you identify areas where you could improve and help you.

Whatever you decide, good luck going forward.

DFC - What that I am sh1t at greyhound racing or over staked in say a horse racing lay ... yep I think I can see those sorts of things and don't need or want others to question why I did something.

It is pity that people don't respect that this is the way I wish to present my challenge thread ....with all my bets up and a challenge summary at the end of the day/morning but then again who am I ... just the guy putting money down on these bets while the cheap seats are given away ...

Okay you have worn me down ... I will try it for a week and see how I get on.

PS: DFC - I don't worry about how you run your threads other than to see if I would have looked at a particular game the way you have ...

Hi undern, hope you're feeling better.

Look, I really like your thread and wish you well with your challenge but I have to say you are out of order telling people what they can and can't post about.  This is a public forum and you are the thread starter not the thread owner.  If you want editorial control maybe a blog is more suitable for your purpose.

For what it's worth, I agree that a daily p+l would make the thread more interesting but I also regard anyone accusing you of fraud as foolish.

Good luck, keep up the good work and I will keep posting whatever rubbish I want, whenever I feel like it [:p][;)]

Cat, Undern puts in most of the effort (well, 'meaningful' effort - Paul posts a lot too, but not one of his 2,662 posts has even approximated anything meaningful yet). And this is primarily his thread, not a free-for-all.     Let him run his thread the way he wants to. If people don't see the point of reading it, they don't have to.

P&L for 12th September 2011

Greyhound Racing: -£160.62 | Horse Racing: -£633.79 | Soccer: £570.44 | Tote: |  Total P&L:  -£223.97

Note: Like I alluded to yesterday the P&L are never going to align with the challenge summary update on a day by day basis because quite simply the P&L is done on BF time stamp for the whole day while the update I do (which I personally thought was quite satisfactory) is done simply as and when I am on the computer and feel like doing it (ie: could be 10pm that night or 10am the next day) which means some bets say late at night are included in one set of figures but excluded in the other figs until say the following day.

eg: last night's tennis bet (loss) is time stamped as being settled 1.25am on 13th Sept so will show up in today's p&l.

But then again everyone requesting the daily p&l would know that already Confused

good luck to everyone in their betting - will update challenge late tonight or tomorrow morning.

U - What you posted is not what most would expect for a post of P&L.......as it is not useful or of interest to anybody .

You won't get any feedback unless you post all pages for the period of bets.....

BTW - you can set the specific time frame you want for P & L ....so don't really understand your dilemma ????

I don't care if you do or don't......just highlighting what most logical forumites would expect IF you post P&L....

Better luck today with bets.

Yep that really allows someone to pass comment on the particular bets I played ConfusedConfused not.

I am fully aware that the p&l report function can be adjusted time wise .... you need to re-read what I said because if you (or your thread) had an updated total summary like I do you would fully understand where I am coming from ...

Like I said ... with your thread I couldn't give a toss (with respect) about what figures you are putting on your thread more so I look at it to see whether what I think a football match will pan out is similar or not to your view ...

Undern,

Horse Racing / Kemp 12th Sep : 1m3f Sell Stks 12-Sep-11 17:10  12-Sep-11 17:14  -282.15
Horse Racing / Kemp 12th Sep : 1m Mdn Stks 12-Sep-11 14:40  12-Sep-11 14:43  -280.00

Horse Racing / List 12th Sep : 1m Nursery 12-Sep-11 15:45  12-Sep-11 15:48  -167.13

Three of your big losses come in races where information is very limited, maidens (middle 2 bets) feature young horses who may be making debuts, or had very few races, some may have had more training than others, some may take to racing quicker than their rivals, there are plenty of unknowns, and the market is a very edgy one as there is less information to shape the market than a handicap where there are more runs to help form the market.  The bottom bet is a Nursery, the next step along the way of most young horses after running in maidens, where runners have had few runs and are still learning, their 'true' ability isnt yet known and similar to the maidens, some horses can improve faster than others, some are very strong 2y/o's whilst others take time, they are very tricky races to bet on, and the market can get it very wrong because, like maidens, there isnt much information about the runners.  The top bet is a selling race, which often feature horses who are struggling, and can throw up strange results.

Good Luck

Markets give you some ideas in maidens Ocean. Problem is, how can you tell when those markets are giving you good ideas rather than bad ones???  Many a time I've seen the early money come decisively for a newbie or a lightly raced young filly, only to see the animal totally honk out in the race itself.

As your final bit suggests, I think it's best to stay away from maidens unless you're sure you've got a strong angle in - or insider info.

You won't get any feedback unless you post all pages for the period of bets.....

Mmmm perhaps I should re-phrase my answer to - who said I wanted people to provide feedback about what bets I do.

I don't - simply because the bets I do - I do for various event reasons (key factors, my reading of how a race will pan out, movement in odds/money weight, ir changes, views of others) but also adjust bets based on ir changes (not just horse racing but say football, tennis etc). Betting is very dynamic and I certainly try to react when I see fit (just a pity some of the tennis bets went against me)

As I have said before I look for certain things in different markets - some involving quite a few different variables and others simply on say weight of money (although yep I do have an inkling for backing the Aussies)

No one could ever drill down enough to the full fundamental reasons of why I chose that bet at that time - in order to provide worthwhile feedback.

My deepest apologises Coolhand for what I am about to write - because as apart from Paulme (who I refuse to reply to) I don't wish to fall out with anyone on here.

Coolhand has kindly taken the time to put up some feedback - but in all honesty it is a complete waste of his time and mine as it provides me with absolutely nothing which firstly I didn't know already, secondly, information which I can already consider and thirdly, does nothing to touch on say the specific factors that I considered when placing the bets.

While I am happy for people to write what they want - I don't know how to put it in any other way (perhaps LB has the words) but to re-emphasise that this thread and the challenge is for me first and foremost - not for anyone else. I want to achieve or fail based on my selections and reasoning. I do learn from others but I enjoy doing it by reading other threads and external sport articles.

I am sure some will take what I have written the wrong way - but I guess the only way for people to fully appreciate it is by starting their own challenge threads (and sticking with it through the highs and lows) ... but people always seem to have an excuse for not giving it go ...

All the best with your own betting.

On this occasion Coolhand has provided some interesting points, DFC. But I imagine what Undern thinks is that, in general, you won't get too much from that kind of 'detailed P & L'. For the simple reason that it's not detailed.

The summary of your P & L, for example, gives no clues as to whether you were backing or laying, or going into the place markets or win markets or whatever. Neither does it tell you which horses you were backing or laying.

So, notwithstanding the fact that you can draw conclusions from a number of losses on particular types of race (maidens, for example), most of the conclusions that you might want to draw can't actually be drawn from a P & L like the one above. Because, quite simply, there's very little actual information to draw conclusions from.
