We want to share an important update with our Betfair Community users.
Over the coming months, the Betfair Community platform will be winding down. The final active day for the platform will be December 21st. From December 22nd, users will no longer be able to access the platform.

There are a couple small ones going. No evidence they are taking any notice.

why did the site go down on wednesday?

Glad to help - thanks for asking the question. |

Why when the site is malfunctioning do you not restrict access to everyone? It seems grossly unfair that customer A can't login to cancel their bets while customer B, using a betting program via the API, is still allowed to use the site and take their bets.
As soon as we are aware of a significant issue, we do take down all parts of the site for exactly the reason you mention. If this is the case, how come I found several of my bets had been taken at several different times during the close to three hour outage that took place on wednesday three weeks ago ? |

The iPhone was working for quite some time on Saturday. Thank God.

I had sent an email with two questions, but they weren't answered so I'll try here and hope for a resonse from the ones who said they will monitor this thread :
Hi , I would like to know the reason to why someone have had access to inplay markets during the outages the last couple of weeks ? An outage can be a pain in the arse , but I guess it is just something we have to live with . What imo is not acceptable though is that Betfair don’t suspend inplay markets and cancel unmatched bets before making the site available again, especially when a few of your customers have access to the markets during the outages whether it’s through the API , an Iphone or any other way. I guess my question is , will you in the future make sure you suspend all inplay markets as soon as an outage is happening and also cancel unmatched bets before you reopen those markets ? And one more thing , Can you please in the future also cancel keep bets after an outage before reopening markets ? I think I speak for all of your customers using the keep option that we do not want to keep those bets in the market after an outage. Yours sincerely Eddie the Eagle |

Betfair: What's the reason behind no Keep Bets in the FT Correct Score market but Keep Bets in the HT Correct Score market and Correct Score 2 market?
Can we have Keep Bets in the Correct Score market ? |

Why is it that the longer you are logged in to Betfair the more memory gets sucked up by the iexplore process that it runs in ? By the end of the day I’m seeing more than 500Mb of memory being allocated to Betfair - the only solution is to logout then clear the cache and log back in again which is a royal pain.
Thanks for telling us about the problem. We were unaware of this issue and have passed your description to our team for immediate review. How can you be unaware of this issue when it's been discussed for nine months on site feedback? |

We have deliberately chosen times with the aim of causing minimal disruption to our customers
The world number one, the world number two and Tiger Woods were playing the 18th hole in a golf tournament. Is this really minimal disruption? |

lori - what browser are you using?

Other than the above questions which amount to "Why aren't you putting any effort into this", Eddie's question above is the only real one that most people are gong to care about. |

Still IE at the moment pres.
It works okay for me if I clear the process via task manager every 2-3 hours. I'm 99% sure it's the forum that does it, that's when the problem began at last. |

are you using forum classic or beta?
|

By:
Classic when it lets me.

mmm - that sound even worse than firefox.

Lori, I don't think it's the forum. Looks to me as if it's the main page, I've had to close everything and open up again 3 or 4 times today only.

By:
fwiw, forum beta really slows things down on firefox, but classic doesn't seem to make any difference.

I was very frustrated by the forum chat. Basically they don't particularly care that you're a trader and you had an open position on a selection in an event at the time of outage - it's just tough ****. However they will look after those people who placed their bet at 10 in the morning and do nothing else because they are far more important than us second class traders. Also that means they can guarantee they get commission on an event even if the site goes down.
I would have thought traders were far more important as we provide a huge amount of liquidity - in my opinion ALL bets on an event during an outage should be cancelled - as long as everyone knows that there is no problem. Those that placed the bet before the event and still want to get on can go to another site and do so . Meanwhile the rest of us are protected from looking a massive loss in the face because we intended to lay off during the event. I have lost thousands over the years from these outages because I couldn't trade out of a position. Do you care Betfair-Community-Manager? It doesn't seem so. |
|
By:
I won't hold my breath for a reply - they only seem to reply to the easy ones.

------------ what happens if the voided BF bet was half of an arb? there are no easy answers, tbf. |
|
By:
bilbobaggins, even if I feel for you there really isn't anything Betfair can do. It's unrealistic to expect them to cancel all bets on an event that is affected inplay by an outage.
In these case you just end up with a big bet at rougfhly correct market price and you just have to live with it. |

Where is this Forum Chat? - I can't seem to find it anywhere - always worth a read.....

Just spent half an hour of my life reading the live chat thread. Not a lot come out of it in my view. OK, good to hear that they want to prevent repeat problems by making the site as close to bomb-proof as they can.
However, interesting to see that there was no real question answered on the topic of the very poor information given out by Betfair on Saturday afternoon and the very insincere 'sorry for any inconvenience' type messages, that were then quickly removed. I call it a lot more than 'inconvenient' that I lose money through no fault of my own (for a change [;)] ) because I can't close a trade because their rotten site has crashed again. |

The infrastructure is a major issue that they need to deal with and I can have little say or input.
But what startled me is where they said they were "unaware of problems" with different platforms (chrome, firefox, I think someone mentioned the cache on IE getting loaded up). In 1994/95, a friend of mine started a "web page" design company. Explorer and Netscape were the norm. He had around six computers with different memory and both platforms. When he tested his designs, he tried them on different computers, etc. It really startled me that they didn't know about some of the most basic issues (there are around 5 I live with on firefox right now when not using the API). A major factor is that you can have this most incredible site but if no one can use it properly on a platform available, the site is not used to its potential. BETFAIR: time to tell your design team to go to PC World, scoop up some computers and test them from landlines outside betfair towers. You will become "aware" of how the site performs. |

Example to my post:
Betfair pages load much quicker on Chrome than Firefox, and I've seen Betfair suggest using it in the past. However, "what if?" figures on Chrome are completely spurious, which makes it unusable. Will Betfair consider addressing this problem, for those of us who would like to switch but can't till it's fixed? Many thanks for making us aware of this. We will investigate this issue and schedule a fix as soon as possible. |

These things have all been posted in site feedback multiple times Shapey. It's no wonder people get a bit wound up (myself included)

Further, this is a major issue to all users:
