Firefox and Betfair are not happy bedfellows.

Replies: 622 02 Mar 11 17:16 I gave up with Firefox as betfair was unusable on Saturday and tried Chrome. Much nicer and even BF runs smoothly. --------- beware - chrome shows wrong "what if?" figures. apparently they're fixing it. |
|
By:
fwiw-wisinm: when I brought it up in the live chat, they replied saying it was the first they'd heard of it.
bit gobsmacking if they weren;t aware of something so significant with a browser they've been recommending. but on the plus side, maybe it means something will finally get done. hope so, because I'd love to switch but can't till it is. btw, two things that help with firefox are: 1 - viewing the forum in "classic" mode, and 2 - if you're using vista (probably also goes for w7), switching off dwm.exe, which is basically the process which shows little live previews of background windows when you hover over their icons in the taskbar. |

Does chrome have a betfair refresh add on?
|
|
By:
.
http://www.gruss-software.co.uk/Betfair_Refresh_Google_Chrome.htm not used it myself. |

Wasn't aware of that, cheers for the heads up gents. Can't say I've noticed it yet but it has only been a couple of days.

Still no reply from Betfair Community Manager 2 (without the underscores as he/she now appears on the fora) to this thread.
Oh well, it's only been 27 days. |
|

Tommy (and others)
I'm going to try and work through this thread in order, and get answers where I can. Totally my bad for not dealing with it sooner. Can only apologise. (And I am the same BCM2 without the underscores - took them off as they looked untidy) |
|
By:
Ok - going right back in the thread, I am seeking some info on Correct Score keep bets.
Following that, there are several threads about the issue of memory leakage. That is something I have discussed with various posters on Site Feedback. One fix has already been applied which, as I understand it, has made things better but not solved all problems. Work is still ongoing and I have passed on various pieces of information from a number of threads to the team that is working on it and I'll continue to do so. Not being a techie myself, I can't offer much in the way of explanations - but I will continue to send threads/posts on here daily to colleagues. |

Okay BFCM2, at least you're attempting some kind of feedback, finally (with another nudge on Site Feedback) but really: "Totally 'my bad' for not dealing with it sooner." is very poor grammar and very reminiscent of poker parlance.
Are you the same 'manager' that has been trying to sort out that shambles of a site too - and getting nowhere? |
|
By:
Tommy
This guy (or gal) is trying to help. You won't assist any of us by being critical about grammar. |

About refreshing chaps. Paste the following into notepad , change the URL to what you want and refresh timer to something sensible ( it's in milliseconds ). Save to desktop as refresh.html ....

Oh.
Now I have a question. Why was that brilliant piece of code not allowed to be posted? |
|
By:
Alex, sorry if I seem to be being pedantic about grammar, when that is not the matter at all.
I was just trying to make the point that people had been requesting feedback from BFCM2 since the 10th of February - and weren't getting any on this thread at all - until BFCM2 finally appeared (after my urging on Site Feedback about the matter) and said 'my bad' - a derogatory term often used in poker. I just wondered if he/she/they are aware of how poor a term that is, and the message it conveys: ie "We don't really give a damn but I'm here to look like we do" |
|
By:
agree with alex, nothing to be gained by laying into the one person to put their head over the parapet.
plus, "my bad" is just american slang for "that was a failure on my part which I acknowledge", so hardly worth taking badly. |
|
By:
Fair enough.
I'll leave you to it. |

Alex - I'm a guy! May as well get that one sorted....
My choice of phrase was pretty poor! I'm far too old to be trying to use (apparently) 'cool' terms. I'll stick to proper English. In terms of what you tried to post there, was it a URL? If so, it's worth trying again, but pressing return and putting the URL on a new line. That has, apparently, been an oddity we have found with posting URLs. I am still chasging on the Correct Score Keep Bets - and I may hopefully have an update later on memory leakage issues. Tommy - no, definitely not a Poker Manager. Football, horses, dogs, golf . . . but not really into cards. |

That is a shame, you may disappoint many by disclosing that. [;)] No worries about the posting, it was a code for a fast refresh and it is not worth chasing up. I would be more likely to place bets on the Correct Score markets if there was a keep bet facility however. Betfair can only be described as being evasive on this subject and one cannot help but feel that there is a hidden reason for the original abandonment of keep bets. In the interests of transparency and clarity it would be reasonable for betfair to provide credible reasoning or failing that, simply to reintroduce the facility. |
|
By:
BCM2, i've asked a couple of times(maybe not on this threafd) if you are going to stay with your policy of not cancelling keep bets after an unplanned outage on markets that are inrunning before opening the markets up again.
As far as I can see you haven't responded to that question. Could you please take this up with whoever deals with these questions ? And if their answer is that you are going with the not cancelling keep bets policy, can you please ask them the reason behind it as I really can't see any logic why you should not cancel keep bets after an outage as you cancel normal bets. |

Trying to make a book before and then after kick off in this market with 17 outcomes, different stakes and odds needing enetered again is a chore that doesn't seem necessary. |

Alex / Rocket - I'm meeting with a colleague about the Correct Score issue later today.
Eddie - sorry if I've missed answering that. I'll do my best to get a response for you now you've nudged me. |

Sorry if this has already been covered but what happens if you back at a value price but the market doesn't eventually trend towards it? It usually will but not always. Do you lay it off even though it was a good price?

I am having to log out and back in a couple of times a day. How can I tell what is using what memory? I am sure that if I explore control panel for long enough I could find it but perhaps some kind soul could point me in the right direction.

Alex hit CTRL ALT and DEL at the same time. Click on 'Processes'
Then click on the 'Mem Usage' header to list it in order. IE explorer is currently using 500,000k of memory with Betfair open. Is that a lot? I have no idea. |
|
By:
I'm using Chrome and in the memory usage column chrome.exe is listed three times. Anyone know if that is normal?
|
|
By:
Thanks and neither do I. However I find IE to move at a snails pace in comparison to Firefox and Chrome, not just for betfair but for everything.
|

Guys, both the forum and the main Betfair site has some kind of bug building up memory usage during normal activity. It's been like this for a long time. At least they acknowlede the problem now and hopefully their it guys will be able to do something about it.
They posted a thread on most forums a week or two ago saying it was fixed, but it certainly isn't. |

I am very hopeful to have some news on the memory leakage issue before the end of the day. As soon as I know where we're at, I will post. |
|
By:
Eddie,
Somebody composed a beautiful service note on the subject ending with the sentence: We will keep up a continuum of performance improvements in this area to erode remaining problems. It still makes me giggle and I marvel at the use of English by the author. |
|
By:
Alex / Eddie
I posted that - but can't take credit for the language used! I felt it was that good, it deserved to be there. |

All
I've got an update on the memory leakage problems, as promised: "We released a number of memory leakage fixes this morning. Based upon the feedback from customers, we have been carrying out extensive investigation into both the horse racing homepage and the new in-play matchpage. Following this morning’s release, we’re confident there will be a considerable performance boost on these pages. In the course of preparing these fixes, we've developed a host of tools that will help each of the various front-end teams identify and fix memory issues as part of the normal development process. We have also made sure our Quality Assurance team know how to test for these issues. In the next few months work will continue to improve site performance further, and we will continue to address any issues that arise. Of course, we will always welcome feedback from our customers so that we are aware of any issues affecting them and their use of the site." |

I don't use any of the two pages you say have been fixed, but just popped in to say that there is no change on the markets I access from the sportspage. You probably knew that as you didn't mention this in your update, but thought I'd tell just in case..

A cursory glance down here & it sounds like Betfair are making a bit of an effort - overall, the 'site experience' (excuse marketing parlance) is better than it was a few months back. Bar the odd bit of slowdown (& an average of about half a crash a day when I'm using it heavily) it's definitely improved. Imvho. I use Internet Explorer, for ref, & have done for beards*

Lusitano, I think it very much depend on how you use the site.
I think these problems affect you more the more bets you have and/or how many markets you operate in. |
