Have you worked out your ROI Hotpot? - 200 is about 5% I guess.
|
|
By:
I've no idea Ivor, wouldn't know where to start....
I'm rubbish at recording, analysing my bets. Many people say that you should keep records etc but I'm not good on the admin side of things with regard to my betting. Some will think this a naive question but how do I go about calculating my ROI? |
|
By:
Your net profit as a % of the total amount risked to achieve that profit.
e.g. If your stake 2 (every time) and you layed at 6.0 in ten races - total risked = 100 Say correct 9/10 profit (5% comm) +17.10 minus 10 = 7.10 = 7.1%. (7.10x100 / 100) (mine today 7.8% ; fairly standard - nothing special). |
|
By:
Right, I'm still a bit confused but here goes:
24/25 selections I got correct Average price of those 25 = 9.82 24 x 5 per lay (4.75 net after commission) = 114 My loser cost me 82.50 So my net profit = 21.50 How do I work out the ROI? I have a feeling it's going to be very poor.... :( |
|
By:
Got it I think...
25 (no of lays) x 5 (stake) x 9.82 (ave price) = 1102.5 (laibility) Net profit 21.50 ROI = 21.50 / 1102.5 = 1.95% Is this right? |
|
By:
Yes - best get to bed early ready for work tomorrow ;)
That is of a course a lowly return for the risk you are taking and such a small step away from break even or loss. Needs more work tbh - good luck. I bet your soccer returns look far better. |

Not at all a dig 200. It's a useful benchmark for us all to be aware of. The higher the risk we take with
our investments the higher the return we should expect. From a high street bank deposit (VERY low risk) you get say 3%? to a lottery ticket HUGELY high risk and HUGE returns IF you win the big one. And of course all the others in between - say property development or stock-market investments. Unlike Hotpot, I spend as many hours recording the day just gone into spreadsheets as I do 'at the table'. From this type of record you can identify which bets are pointless (break-even) or loss-making and dump them to concentrate on those which are clearly profitable. For example, ROI (for me) peaks BELOW my highest possible s/rate. There is a bet I can do which produces a s/rate well up to 93% - but it produces LESS net profit than bets with an 85% strike-rate. Similarly, bets I do at 80% strike-rate also produce lesser profit % than those at 85% - but they are still profitable. This is why I'm not afraid of losing when a favourite wins against me for example - it's just part of the overall equation. So I find record keeping invaluable. Hope that's useful or interesting - or just plain controversial ;) |
