Good evening.

Some good racing to come tomorrow at both Ascot and Haydock.

As much as I would like to have had bets in both the Old Borough Cup and the Group 1 sprint, there are question marks against the horses I would like to back and think it's best to leave them. Shernando is in good form and has a good chance in the OBC, but I can't make my mind up as to whether the extra couple of furlongs will suit and at only around 7/1, I'm leaving it. In the G1 sprint, I really do like the look of Society Rock but the ground is a concern and could even be a nonner, the same also for Dream Ahead.

However, I hope that the following ones will run well, with most things in their favour.

In the 2.00 at Haydock, Navajo Chief can run another good race and follow up on the win last month at odds of around 8/1. That day he beat another of my selections in a good time and I'm hoping the form of that race will work out well.

In the 3.15 at Ascot, Smarty Socks has been progressing nicely and a win could be due any time now. Ran very well lto behind Navajo Chief and on my calculations is well in with the likely favourite Eton Rifles, receiving 7lbs from that one. A line through Webbow gives ours a very good chance. 7/1 available.

I am very hopeful that Parlour Games can round off a good day in the 3.45 at Ascot, and I was surprised to see 8/1 generally available for this one. A drop back to 12 furlongs shouldn't be a problem and the stiff nature of the track should help.

Fingers crossed for a good payday.  Happy

Well done with Smarty Socks yesterday Fastbearform.

I've been keeping an eye on the 'fit to run or fit to drop' horses since my post on 31/08/11 and as you can see from the table below it has thrown up a fair few winners.  However, I'm not sure at the moment whether this is down to the 'minimum of 3 runs in the last 63 days' filter or the 'must be in the top three rated' filter.  I suspect it's the latter.  For the record, I've only been looking at Flat & AW races.

The 'Runners' column shows the number of runners that day that had run a minimum of 3 times in the last 63 days.

The column headed 'IT3' shows how many of those runners were in the top three of my ratings.

The 'Won' column shows how many of the 'IT3' won and the final column shows their BSPs.

    Date        Runners        IT3        Won        BSPs
    31/08/11        107        43        8        10.70, 8.75, 8.43, 5.43, 8.76, 2.12, 7.19, 5.40.
    01/09/11        72        27        8        5.36, 5.82, 4.90, 7.42, 4.80, 2.16, 5.00, 3.50.
    02/09/11        109        42        7        4.31, 7.80, 6.06, 2.38, 2.46, 4.78, 5.20.
    03/09/11        213        62        11        3.10, 9.80, 6.34, 7.18, 4.52, 10.33, 30.00, 5.84, 7.00, 3.96, 3.40.

The number of selections per race tends to vary.  Sometimes there may only a be one runner in a race that meets the criteria.  On other occasions there may be two or three qualifiers.  In some races there are no qualifiers.

One of the problems with this approach is the effect of non-runners as they are declared throughout the day.

For example, a horse that qualified on the 'minimum 3 runs.....' filter but was outside the top three in the ratings could become a selection if one of the original top three rated runners was later declared a non-runner.  This problem was brought home to me last Saturday morning when I intended to post a list of the selections for that day.  There were non-runners being declared left, right and centre so in the end I gave up.

In the hope that they all come under orders here are the qualifiers for today.

Good evening.

Well, at least we had a winner last week, which was nice, and had it not been for what was in hindsight a pretty bad draw in the other race at Ascot, we may have had another winner, the horse running pretty well I thought, running wide all the way. Must have added about a furlong to his distance!

Tomorrow is another day and I think another at least reasonable payday could be on the way.

In the Portland, 2.35 at Donny, York Glory has been running well for what seems like an eternity and I think another big run is on the cards. This unusual trip should be right up his street and at a price of 8/1 is well worth the risk. I also think Confessional could run well.

Down at Goodwood in the 2.50, my old friend Peter Gubby's brother, Brian, (haven't seen him in a long while but thought I'd name drop) runs Son Of The Cat and I should think that one will run a good race there again. 13/2 in places.

In the big race at Donny, the St Leger, I have already laid the favourite and think Blue Bunting will run well. However, for some time now, I have believed that Seville has wanted further than 12 furlongs and this trip could well be an ideal stepping stone on the way to Gold Cup glory at Royal Ascot at some stage.
Last season on my figures Seville ran faster than any other 2 yo apart from Frankel, Casamento and Roderick O'Conner. This could be his time of year as well, and Lads are still going 10/1 for this. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't make the frame. This is a very good horse on his day and Aiden has put the boy on. I'm sure he wouldn't want him embarressed! I'm not forgetting also, that he gave our horse the other week a great ride, and but for the saddle slipping, may well of won on Tactician. Happy

Update on 'Fit to run or fit to drop' system.

From the list of qualifiers that I posted on Wednesday there were 6 winners from 32 selections.  There was one non-runner in the list, Climaxfortackle.  The winning BSPs were 2.06, 6.80, 2.88, 7.59, 4.50 & 8.29.  Thursday & Friday continued in similar vein with 15 winners from 75 selections.

Because of time constraints today, I've summarised the results from 31/08/11 (which was when I first mentioned the idea) up to and including yesterday, 09/09/11 in the table below.  Please note that the P/L figure is based on a £1 level stake on all qualifying selections @ Industry SP.

Although the overall figure is a minus one @ ISP, there was an 18/1 ISP winner last Saturday which was returned at 30.00 BSP so just taking that one selection in to account would have put the overall P/L in to the black.  If you add the other 63 winners in to the equation there would have been quite a decent profit made even after allowing for 5% commission.

Good evening.

Lots of easy racing to sort out tomorrow and of course that's because I'm playing in the three hardest races of the day, namely at Ayr, The Silver Cup and the Gold Cup, along with the Dubai Duty Free Handicap at Newbury! Over 70 runners and all I have to do is pick 3 winners. Simple!
To be fair though, as usual, I have my reasons for picking them, but there are plenty of other dangers about.

In the Silver Cup at Ayr 2.15, I just can't see Bertiewhittle being out of the frame with some solid form lines to back up his claims with the horses he beat into 2nd 3rd and 4th all coming out and running well since, 1st, 2nd (hd) and 1st.  This has a great shout at odds of 14/1.

At Newbury in the DDF Handicap 3.05, Beaumont's Party  ran a solid enough race last time at Sandown and the trip of 10f  seems to suit this one very well. Again, another good price at around 12/1. The favourite is a very obvious danger, but not at odds of 7/2 or 4/1 and may well want quicker ground over this distance.

Back to Ayr, and in the Gold Cup at 3.20, I've gone for the horse I was kicking myself for not backing last month at Ripon. Step forward Pepper Lane who has done nothing wrong and is likely to run a big race again. At least 10/1 available and in my view, that is a good value bet with 11 and 12/1 still available in a couple of places.

A big payday in store if that lot go in, and no reason why not, if they all run to their best. Happy

Good evening.

A bit of jumps racing tomorrow, so as well as the Cambridgeshire which appears very open this year, I thought I would add a couple of jump races.

In the 2.20 at Market Rasen Viva Colonia has done nothing wrong in it's last couple of races, is capable of carrying big weights and can win again. 6/1

In the following race at 2.50 Ostland drops back to 2m 6f after coming 2nd over 3 miles and can return to winning ways here at the tasty price of  9/1.

In the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket due off at 3.50, I had a short list of about half a dozen for this, including Proponant, which I believe will run a big race.
However, to my eyes, there's not alot wrong with the claims of  Albaqaa at very nice odds of at least 20/1 and that's the one carrying my money. To be honest though, there doesn't seem to be any standout for this in what seems to be a very poor renewal.Happy

Good evening.

I'm concentrating on two races tomorrow, one at Ascot and the other at Newmarket. I was hoping for a big price for the one at Ascot, but the ridiculous reduction in the number of runners in the Challenge Cup has seen the prices of most horses probably 30% or so lower than they may have been in a 28-30 runner race. Stupid race planners really haven't got a clue! Oh! sorry, yes they have, they know how to f**k-up a decent betting handicap!

Anyway, with that rant out of the way, off to the 3.00 at Newmarket where I strongly fancy the chance of  Tell Dad in the Tattersalls Millions 2yo Trophy.
This one seemed to win a shade cosily here a couple of weeks ago in a good time from a few useful horses and can certainly go well again tomorrow. I can only see a couple of potential dangers, and hopefully good odds available later.

On to the 3.50 at Ascot and as already mentioned, the Challenge Cup has for some inexplicable reason, been reduced to 18 runners this year, which from a betting viewpoint, instead of getting around 10/1 for my selection, I'm going to have to settle for around 7/1, and that can make a big difference on a winning double. (not that I've had one of those for a while)! Anyway, the horse is Smarty Socks and I strongly believe this one can go close again, so no reason to look for anything else, except to mention that, if you fancy Smarty Socks, then you would certainly have to fear Webbow at double the odds. However, I don't believe this one runs to his best at Ascot, so best left alone I think. The Cheka would also have a good chance on best form.

So there you have it, hopefully a nice little double to watch romp home when I get in from work tomorrow night!Happy

Good evening.

Some good racing at Ascot and Cheltenham tomorrow, but am not betting at either of those for various reasons. I expect Frankel to win, as do most people I would imagine. The only thing I would say is, if he's not at his best and Poets Voice is, then Poets Voice could win at a very big price.

Not enough info to go on at the mo over the jumps, so I've dug a couple out at Catterick.

Both have won with a bit of cut in the past, so hopefully they can run good races at reasonable prices, there's no reason why not according to my analysis.

Good evening.

Hopefully a few good ones for tomorrow. The one I really wanted to do is way too short in price but the others are ok. As usual, I have my reasons for backing them and think they should all go well. We'll see! Will have to suffer the agony of waiting to see how they do on the recording tomorrow night as I'll be working till quite late. Sad

Donc 2.00  Favourite Girl   16/1

Newb 2.15 Tell Dad   7/1 gen  8 and 9 in places

Newb 2.45  Al Kazeem   4/1

I also expect a good run from Pimpernel, but way too short to put the money down.

In the Racing Post Trophy, I believe that Talwar is way overpriced on best form and I am a little tempted on that. 25/1 available. Might be worth a go if any returns from the others. Happy

Good evening.

Well, it seems to be the story of the year, with yet another single winner last week, which is nice, but yet again no double.

The racing this weekend from a betting perspective is a bit dodgy again, but hopefully my two will give us a good run again.

In the Ben Marshall at Newmarket due off at 2.05, the favourite, Ecliptic is strongly fancied by most people to win, but I'm going against it with one of Godolphins other horses, Secrecy, which has shown solid enough form recently and would not be winning out of turn. This one is generally 9/2 and a good run is expected with Kieren Fallon taking the ride.

In the 3.00 at Ascot, I know Via Galilei is well fancied, but I've a sneaky feeling this one is better going left handed and maybe on an easier track. The one I'm taking a chance with to carry on progressing is Elsafeer, 8/1 available at the mo, but still good with a general 7/1.

Database back up and running.  Selections for 26-29 October now included.  Apologies for posting after the events - qualifiers can be checked quite easily as there are only two rules to the method.

Namely, trainer win strike rate last 14 days 33% min., and horse must have won one of last three races.  Stakes are 3pts on a last time out winner, 2pts on a horse that won its second last race and 1pt on a qualifier that won its third last race. Points are not added in the case of multiple wins - e.g. form figures 111 = last time out winner = 3pts staked; form figures 114 = winner second last run = 2pts staked.

Evening all.

With all the hard work you're putting in t2, I must say, you certainly deserve to succeed with what you're doing. Keep at it!

As for me, well, just mainly sticking with my tried and trusted methods for backing at weekends and the big meetings. Been laying horses as well, as and when I can find qualifiers with my 'system', but that only tends to throw up around half a dozen or so a week. Not too bad at the mo though and heading in the right direction. Could be some months yet before I'm laying any decent amounts. It's taken me nearly 2 months so far to double the amount of money I started out with for that, back in September. But if I can keep doubling up every couple of months for the next 1-2 years, I shall be very happy. Definately a long term project if things keep going my way! Happy

Good evening.

Well, have been finding a few winners recently, but unfortunately, no doubles to bump up the returns.

It's the last big betting race of the flat tomorrow, and hopefully we can go out with a bang for Guy Fawkes night rather than a whimper.

No long write-ups tonight, I've done my 'homework' and suffice it to say, the two horses I've picked for tomorrow have good chances and as usual, good runs expected.

Donny

3.10  Status Symbol  14/1

3.40  Sirius Prospect  9/2  and 5/1 with Billys.

Fingers crossed. Happy

Oh well, another winning week, but unfortunately, no double again. Anyway, nice to end the season on a winning note.
I shall be away next week, so won't be posting for next weekend, I shall of course aftertime should I find any winners though!Laugh

Laters,

Bear.

Good evening.

A bit of good racing tomorrow, but not alot from a betting perspective for me, although I have finally decided on two.

I was only going to lay Long Run originally in the big chase up at Haydock, but have decided to back one as well. I've always liked Diamond Harry and as far as I am concerned, he's the one most likely to win this if back to his best. 5/1 is a great price in a field of this size and a big run is expected.

At Ascot in the 3.20, I see no reason why Anquetta shouldn't win again, and again, a fair price of 9/2  is available. King Edmund could be a slight danger. Happy

Good evening.

I've had a small ew play on Planet Of Sound in the Hennessy at 14/1 for reasons I shall go into tomorrow evening. Still a good bet I think at 12/1. Happy

Good evening.

Planet Of Sound is the bet for me in the Hennessy tomorrow and is still a good price ew.
On very big galloping tracks like Newbury (won 3/4) the horse has a very good record having finished 12211111 and into the bargain has had a wind op. A good run expected.

In the 2.05 at the same track, I know there are some very good horses in this and it is a tough race, and with a quick glance there are several well fancied horses that could win. However, no matter how deep I dig, I keep coming back to Ultravox which should run a good race and is a whopping 33/1 at the time of writing.
I have reason to believe that the duck eggs against his last run and earlier in the year can be ignored and I am very hopeful of a good run tomorrow. It certainly shouldn't be that price.

Hey Big Spender should also run well at Newcastle tomorrow and is around 5/1 although I may not back it myself, the trainer already having stated that the Welsh National is his main target. Happy

Good evening.

As expected last week, a great run from Planet Of Sound, but just finding one too good in the end. Also a good winning run fron Hey Big Spender, although that one went unbacked by me in the end.

Just two for me tomorrow at Sandown.  I was tempted a bit with Via Galilei again with the soft ground which will suit, but a combination of top weight and the fact that he's yet to win on a stiff track is enough to put me off again. So the one I think should run well is Enfant De Lune at odds of 8/1 with conditions to suit.

In the Tingle Creek at 3.05, I just can't get away from the fantastic record of Gauvain in small fields and so am more than prepared to take the risk at odds of 10/1. Hopefully another big run to come.Happy

Good evening.

The less said about Gauvain the better, I think! Laugh

Some good racing tomorrow, and I hope I've settled on two that will run well at reasonable prices.

In the 2.45 at Doncaster, School For Scandal seems to have taken to hurdling very well and won it's debut race in a very good time on my figures, a repeat of that run will see it go very close in this tougher race tomorrow. 6/1 available.

In the 3.05 at Cheltenham shortly afterwards, it would be a fool who easily dismisses the claims of Brampour and this horse seems to be greatly improved since last season after a breathing op. I don't think the form of the recent win in the Greatwood should be underestimated and it was won in a very good time off a high enough weight. 5/1 or so seems a good price to me and hopefully this one can complete the second leg of a nice little double.

I can't really pin anything down in the Gold Cup, but do expect Great Endeavour to run well again if the ground is quick enough, and there are several others that I like as well, but too many question marks. Alot of people seem to like Divers and Quantativeeasing, but I think their claims can be dismissed with a pinch of salt, on my figures, simply not fast enough unless showing great improvement.

Also think Any Given Day should run well, but not prepared to back against Oscar Whisky.

Good evening.

No long write-ups tonight, but have had a good look at a couple of races and believe my selections for various reasons, will run really well, and hopefully, win.

Haydock 2.45  Court Red Handed  7/1 ish  Going the right way and stable confidence is high.

Ascot      3.35  Brampour.  12/1, generally 11/1  Simply a much better horse than the rest.  RS, VG, SW, and MW all place claims.Happy

Hello again,

I'll keep it short this evening, have narrowed things down to 3 horses now, so fingers crossed.

Kempton 1.25  Loch Ba  8/1 ish        well capable of springing a surprise back at Kempton against some more fancied horses.

Wetherby  1.45  Always Right  4/1 ish        Always runs a good race and should go close again.

Kempton  3.10  Master Minded  7/1 ish        Fantastic record going right handed, fast enough on his day, trip the only small question mark, but will go very close if he gets it. Happy

Good evening.

Have found some really good ones for tomorrow, or so I believe! In fact, it's taken me a little while to decide what to leave out, and in the end I've got three, although I would have prefered just the two.

My third choice of the three runners is in the 2.20 at Warwick. I have to give it a mention, because although the trainer doesn't seem extremely confident, he still hopes the horse will run well, the main reason being that Trigger The Light has won 3/4 at Warwick and the other time came 2nd at the course. The old saying 'horses for courses' certainly seems to ring true with this one and despite advancing years, should give another good account.

However, my two main bets are both at Newbury, and in the Mandarin Chase at 2.35, I expect Rey Nacarado to win this and I will be very disappointed if he's not at least fighting out the finish. Already a C and D winner and progressing nicely, the form of this one was done no harm with Giles Cross running so very well in the Welsh National a few days back and I really think it's the one to be on.

In the 3.40 after Fingal Bay wins the Challow Hurdle, I once again expect a big run from my final selection, Ubi Ace. This one of course won the 'William Hill' handicap hurdle at Sandown earlier in the month and although the second and third have since failed miserably, I still think the form will hold up in time when those ones run under more favourable circumstances.

I'll really be miffed if I don't land something back tomorrow, these are good selections!

Am working tomorrow, so it's the recorder again for me, something to look forward to when I get in.

Good evening and (hopefully) a happy new year to you.

Once again, and I'm not aftertiming. I've managed to pick the wrong one of two in a competitive h'cap hurdle! A couple of weeks ago it was Raya Star, this week it was Celestial Halo, both at very nice prices. Very frustrating.
Anyway, one winner today at least (two if you include Fingal Bay) but not a bet for me at that price! At least we leave 2011 on a winning note!

As for New Years Day, I originally had a shortlist of about half a doz, but for various reasons got it down to two. They included Runshan, Duke Of Lucca, Oscargo and Quicuyo.

I've settled on two, mainly because of price and conditions to suit, fingers crossed.

In the 1.05 I see no reason to oppose Solix and that one is available at 4/1.

Up at Musselburgh, I think Gordonsville should go well again and 5/1 is floating around for that one. Can't be bothered with explanations tonight, but you know me well enough by now to know that I only back them with good reason!
