n88uk,
I'd say where you are going wrong is assuming the amount of money an entity - Saudi Arabia in this case - is prepared to pay for something is determining it's value. And that the Premier League/Champion's League are popular due to how much money is spent on the TV rights. No, the level of fan interest determines the true value of the rights. They have intrinsic value. If what Lurka posted about the Saudi/DAZN deal is correct then we can deduce that the true value of the Club World Cup is basically nothing (another clue to this is that DAZN's UK broadcast partner is Channel 5). Plastic competitions like the CWC & LIV Golf are basically worthless. As would be a 'Super League'. It simply doesn't matter how much money the Saudis put up. The question you have to ask is, if the Saudi regime was overthrown by jihadis, how much would some other entity pay for the rights to this stuff? The Saudis have a political purpose to all this. Nobody else does. |

How many clubs turned down an invite to this event?
|
|
By:
It's not like they had to choose this over the premier league or CL. Which would be the case with a Super League.
The European club coaches seems unenthused, the owners figured they'd get $30M or so. So they played it the same way they do overseas tours. |

The CWC is a land grab. A $1 billion land grab.
FIFA will fine tune it and it'll improve. It'll be back. |

£40 million nearly pays for a new striker
Interesting to see what sort of pre season Chelsea and citeh have. |

It's free to watch on DAZN, you just have to register and download their app. They get zero sub revenue from it. They haven't got Amazon revenues to do what Amazon did with their PL slots, which cost them 20-30m a season.
The whole thing is astroturfed by the Saudis, not organic, made to look like a TV co paid for the rights when literally nobody was interested. It's like paying 1bn for the Emirates Cup with a few more groups in it and fewer fans. City have played it smartly, got the bulk of the max revenues and got out of there almost 2 weeks before the final. Simply not worth it for any top CL side. Buy yourself a new squad player with the money and likely lose revenues next season from under-performing, fatigued players with more injuries. For everyone else it is their only chance to make revenues like that. |

PSG vs Bayern quarter
Kane to score Maybe ![]() |
|
By:
Bayern have flattered to deceive to some extent. They started fast against Flamengo, but allowed the Brazilian side back into the game, Kane took his goals really well, but his forward line team mates were not up to the same standard. Sane was as wasteful as ever, always seems to miss good chances or play the wrong pass, Gnabry was ineffective and Olise had a pretty poor match. Add to that a shaky Bayern defence and PSG look a great bet at 2.54.

Life can be fleeting.
No doubt this time last week Diogo Jota was watching the CWC with his brother, today they are both in the ground and at the CWC they are displaying a photo of the pair of them and having a moment to remember them. |

Trevor Chalobah completed all 54 of his pass attempts vs Fluminense, the second-most with 100% accuracy by any player in a match at this year's FIFA Club World Cup after Jonathan Tah for Bayern Munich vs Boca Juniors (67/67).
Opta Chelsea looked good at cwc, but draw rather opened up for them. Got to take advantage all the same. |
