if you blindly back Haaland as captain instead of looking for the weeks where there's better opportunity then you're not playing the game right, Villa have got their act together and are looking much better and are at home.
Pedro isn't returning and his XG isn't great either, it's because he is not a number 9, not a true number 9 at the very least, if you also saw the Forest game you'd have seen he spent 70 minutes dropping deep and instead trying to constantly play Santos in. Haaland is an option this week but Woltemade is equally a good option. Kind Regards. |

I agree.

Pedro not even on bench tonight so I can have no idea whether he will be played on Saturday, so, a change for me and he is ditched. Timber brought back and now playing a 4 4 2 and hoping for brilliant defensive work at the Emirates and a Haaland haul.

Pedro was suspended for tonight's game.

I'm not going to try to be too clever by half by ignoring the blindingly obvious and am very much of the opinion of if it aint broke don't fix it. Picking Haaland as captain this week isn't picking him blindly it's picking him because he's the blindingly obvious pick, the only other contender would be Pedro but he's untrustworthy at the moment. For all that Villa have won three in a row, they have not looked very good in any of those games and are a shadow of the side they were last season IMO. Last season there were four potential reliable captains, week in week out, this season there is one. |

If you’ve got Haaland in your team then he’s the automatic choice for captain. You’d have to make a decent case for another player to take the armband.
Picking someone else would be a tactical punt. It would also feel like a small victory if they outscored him. |

lol at the advice from someone too scared to reveal their 'fantasy' team

Thanks mes - good of you to let me know. . Agree Duffy. Agree kenbo. We want to get it right, find inspiration, but it is just a game. Several wise players have given great advice but the bottom line is if the good players you pick aren’t doing it you fall behind. Dumping a player in form just sees us falling further behind.
I am hanging on hoping to have a good run at some stage. Like Amorim. And he seems to have made a start! ![]() I like the way we share bits of info. |

Haaland is obviously a good pick as always this week with the form he's in, but Villa are unbeaten in 8 games in all comps over 90/120 mins and haven't conceded more than 1 goal in any of them, obviously City a big step in quality though, maybe worth mentioning City have only score 2 goals in 3 games at Villa Park in the league since Halaand joined (2-1. 1-0, 1-1)
Though Villa have a game tonight and if they start too many of their first choice players then I think I will also be making him capitan at the weekend. However the point I'm making is that I don't think he is the most obvious pick this weekend, he for my money is one of around 4 or 5. City are around 1.86 with the books to beat Villa, Newcastle are 1.61, Woltemade now playing 90 min games whilst looking good so is equally a good option if not better. Saka and Gyokeres as well, their 1.42 to beat Palace who are playing tonight 8pm, if they play too many of their first choice players as well then Saka and Gyokeres become big contenders with an extra 2 days rest. Chelsea are 1.41 if you fancy Pedro. All depends who you have in your team. If there are people however who have the mindset that they are just going to captain Haaland every single game til the rest of the season when they're around 150-200+ pts behind the top of the overall leaderboard or their leagues or whatever whilst make 1 transfer a week, then that is just a case of rearranging the deckchairs on the titanic. Kind Regards. |

Great points.

Woltemade has been scoring and perhaps from a fantasy point
he is creating, and maybe at some point in league his wingers start scoring like they have in ucl. I do think wissa will be a buy at some point, theres a potential difference maker in ffl, timing is key and apparently he's nearly ready. |

No-one is suggesting anything of the sort, I'm quite happy to make the best option captain if it is not Haaland, this week though it is Haaland, the other point abot being 100+ behind, you do not have to make it up in one bound and you are not out of it if you are that far behind, if that were the case the game would be broken, you can make 5 points up here and there and climb the table. Finally on the Haalad issue, Honcho is preaching somewhat on this issue whilst finally conceding that he'll probably make him captain this week, which says it all. |

It would also feel like a small victory if they outscored him. That is a very important point and it is what is going on in a lot of this, if you can profit on another player whilst the rest of the "sheep" and I don't mean sheep but that is how honcho is framing it, then there is extra kudos, but aside from the points you get in achieving that victory you don't get anything extra in real terms and what is likely to happen in reality is that in trying it you lose further ground which means you have to gamble still further, the cycle continues and you end up wrecked, but it's all about different opinions and strategies so I respect all of that. ![]() |

Not honcho, I mean mes of course
...apologies Honcho![]() |

You're over complicating a very simply made point, I originally said this looks like a week where for once you can look elsewhere, that didn't mean or indicate that I was doing so did it, there are 4-5 choices as far as I see it, Haaland is always an option, you also said he is the blindingly obvious choice, no he's not as pointed out. He is the blindingly obvious choice to people who can't think beyond the end of their nose
Kind Regards. |
|
By:
He is the blindingly obvious to anyone not feeling the need to appear too clever by half. If there are other decent options, by all means make the case.

None of the points you make are the prime considerations IMO, quoting match prices are not the most relevent, the most important quality is who can you trust and who is the most reliable points scorer, then you can weigh in other factors, Gyokores hasn't been performing in the EPL as of yet and Saka is still finding his feet, there is also the the issue on who will be on pens, they also have a tough fixture.
Newcastle have been struggling and although Woltemade has scored and started well it's still a leap to trust him with the armband and although Chelsea's fixtures are good Pedro is out of form and untrustworthy. Haaland is hugely in form, is on pens, has a favourable ficture IMO, it's a straight forward pick IMO. |
|
By:
mes,
when did you put Haaland in your team? |
|
By:
So you're basically going with the safe as houses pick and dismissing other players with good fixtures, at home with decent enough form and also paying no attention that at Villa Park Emery had done well v Pep in the last 3 years conceding just 2 goals, that's OK, - but for the sake of not dragging this tedious point further I'll simply say it one last time, it is the first time in ages where you can make a case of going with someone else, and obviously that is in my opinion as outlined and highlighted above
Haaland has never been out of my team. Salah has never been in it incidentally. Kind Regards. |
|
By:
Haaland has scored 83 points. It would take a huge slice of luck to be captaining different players each week and better that.
Those of us who chose not to have him from the start are easily 100 points worse off. |
|
By:
|
|
By:
I never had Haaland at the start of the season and neve had Salah, I didn't want to pick the safe as houses player and tried to look further than the end of my nose
, when I realized I needed him I stuck him in. |
|
By:
I'm not in your league Clarke but the thread is not exclusive to those who are
Duffy let me know the week when you deviate captain, I'd love to know and why ![]() |
|
By:
s.kenbo you hit the nail on the head there.
Can you imagine picking João Pedro for last weekend just because Chelsea had an easy game against Forest while Haaland faced the Everton defence? This mes guy doesn't know wtf he is talking about! ![]() |

^makes no sense and bears no relevance to anything I've said, but you're not the brightest star in the sky

Did you make Haaland captain last week? |
|
By:
what point are you going to make duffy, last week had a completely different set of fixtures to this one
|
|
By:
I had haaland captain wk 6,7,8
Ekitike week 5 (8 points to haaland 9) Only time I had haaland and didn't captain him. |
|
By:
Currently cap haaland wk 9, pedro vice
|
|
By:
After my wildcard this week, I've saved enough cash to put Haarland back in for next week.
I've made Larsen Captain because I suspect Burnley will go to Wolves looking for 3 points, I also suspect Larsen maybe reaching peak fitness after injury... Guessing and Hoping probably.. ![]() |
|
By:
There are 12.25 million teams
Haaland is in 2/3 of them, and likely a higher proportion of active teams as there are many parked teams in parked leagues. |
|
By:
It's good logic Emit, massive reward if haaland blanks
and larsson notches. But need a few weeks like that, and risk sometimes backfires, I do like it though. |
|
By:
I haven’t called anyone “sheep” Duffy. I think you need to read back and check your info.
Nor would I. |

Got to get on SAKA and a couple of CHELSEA players for this decent run
Foden to Saka Gakpo to Enzo Konsa to Chalobah Hopefully I'll get those 8 points back weeks 9-12 Chelsea play Arsenal Wk 13 so that's going to be my free hit week. 14 until 18 both Chelsea and Arsenal fixtures remain strong. |
