These Northern Ireland players are poorly coached, rigidly staying in shape with no attacking intent, like mannequins for England just passing around them, no closing down at all.

England pretty much shoe-ins for reaching the final if they can beat Spain. France have lost their best striker to injury. And some of their other quick, little forwards also look a bit slight. And I wouldn't be surprised if one of them also gets crocked. I'm not as confiedent as I was about France now. Although they are good enough to win it, if they stop farting about and trying to walk the ball in.

the word diversity that she used highlights a lack of logical thought, logical thought was obviously overridden by the urge to promote an agenda, because picking an England team is about picking players on merit, ability, hard work, form. Diversity is completely irrelevant upon selection for any sports team, you don't get into a sports team because you're black or white, that'd be box ticking, which in an ordinary working environment is acceptable when so many people bring forward equal qualifications. Reminds me of John Snow's I've never seen so many white people comment

80% of England is white, so the chances are that'd be reflected in the squad, it is odds against however that all 16 players used were white, but that'd be suggesting the manager was racist if on purpose. Which is what she seems to be saying.

If you're talking about Alex Scott, she said last night that she was talking about opportunities and how the FA focused on suburbs and not inner-city areas in promoting the game for girls etc but have since changed tack. She wasn't talking about picking the first XI, just that they missed out on a lot of non-white potential talent years ago as there are a lot more of them in the inner-city areas.

I wonder what the reaction would be if they "positively discriminated" a few weaker players into the squad, And got knocked out as a result. You can't pander to every minority.

the BBC host there, really emphasising the word white and that it pointed to a lack of diversity, then led to a piece by Alex Scott, which included interviewing a black girl on a bench who said she couldn't get inspired by the all white England team because she couldn't see anyone she could relate to. Re poor scouting, England's women's team have had a black manager, and 2 of the top 6 most capped players being black, all from London which is as diverse as it gets in England. Current squad mostly from non home county type places. The BBC's top 10 highest paid employees are white, should look closer to home. If this was a privileged sport like Golf or even Tennis I'd understand, because there are many more barriers to entry there.

Spain been so naive tonight...making all the running and Denmark come close to doing them on the counter 2 or 3 times

Denmark had to finally give it a go...Spain should have played keep ball with the way the Danes set up tonight - instead kept full backs high cmf high ...pleased they are through but could easily have ended in tears...maybe I'm too Jose Mourinho Mischief

Spain women are like the men. The object of the game is to score but they don't seem to think so. England much more clinical and should have no trouble with them.

very different game dynamic though against England though ...all three teams Spain have played have set up just to play on the counter...can't imagine England will though Spain are inflexible enough that if they did they probably could...

Yep, Spain just passing it around midfield with very little actual threat

Spain's 5 goals have come from a penalty, header from a corner, header from a free kick and two headers from crosses.

I certainly think they have significant issues breaking down teams that are well set up defensively, they lack some craft and subtlety in the final third for all the possession they have..
Equally they have played one of the best sides in the tournament (Germany) and a reasonable side in Denmark that despite needing a win largely parked the bus against them...

Will be interesting to see how England decide to play it - but I would imagine they (Eng) will be aggressive and attempt to dominate the game from minute 1...
that will be a very different type of game/test for Spain from anything we've seen so far...you'd certainly make Eng favs but Spain certainly have enough quality to pose problems on the counter attack for England as well.

I can imagine England going all guns blazing, getting caught out by a sneaky Spanish pass, then trying to break them down the rest of the game.

A lot comes down to who scores first. Hope England play it carefully.

Italy favs but they don't possess enough quality to easily break down a well organised Belgium side who kept France down to 2 goals, and have a chance to progress themselves.
