I cannot remember my 1st ever match but one that sticks in my mind from being a youngster was a 6-4 scoreline that Bolton beat QPR at Burnden park and upon looking up the date it was 29th November 1969

I remember Redknapp as a player, was just an average winger that every team had, here at Villa we had Tony Scott followed by Willie Anderson who was George Bests understudy at Man Utd, looked a bit like him as well, and not a bad winger.
First game I saw was Villa v Stoke about 63/64, my best mates dad took us to watch the great Stanley Mathews who was getting on for 50, unfortunately he never played and Stoke won 3-1, next game was Villa v Spurs, again went to see the great Spurs captain Danny Blanchflower, but he didn't play either. Spurs won 4-2 and I was hooked, thought Villa needed some support! First big game I saw was Preston v Swansea in the 64 fa Cup semi final at VP. Preston won 1-0 or 2-0, think Howard Kendall played for Preston but he certainly played in the final as the youngest player ever at 16/17. Preston were in Division 2/3 and Swansea in Division 4. West ham beat them in the final. Great memories of flap caps and grey mats filling the grounds. |

My Dad took me to see Sheffield Wednesday v Grimsby in what must have been the old Div 2 in 1955/6 I think. I was very young but I know Wednesday won 6-0 and I have a memory, which may not be correct, that the Grimsby centre-half scored the first two goals.

yes i was at feethams cup game and at victoria park hartlepool for the new era 1986 cheers sparrow i still use gordon jones name today,as in a gordon jones cross , gordon needed a passport to enter the oppositions half and used to cross the ball in to the box from the halfway line, joe laidlaw was my fav boro player,no 10 blue and black stripes away kit, perfect my memories of hughie mcllmoyle are 2 nil down early on at home to QPR and we ended up winning 6 v 2,think hugh scored 2 maybe 3 one bullet header his forte, theres a park near ayresome park ,known as the old mans park, remember west hams playing a full on 11 a side game in there pre match to pass the time away |

As soon as the War was over I started going to Griffin Park. Mid 1940's I suppose.
Brentford were in the top division then. That didnt last long. We almost got back last season. I must be the oldest on here. |

" First game I ever went to was at Easter Road with my Dad ...Hibs Beat Peebles Rovers 15-1....with Joe Baker scoring nine times for the hi-bees in 1961 ...I was 9 years old ..great game !" My first game was at Easter Road when Hibs beat Queen of the South 9 - 1. when I was 11. Hibernian 9-1 Queen of the South - August 10, 1946 The match report described this hammering of the Doonhamers as a “trouncing after a fashion the Dumfries club hasn’t known for many a day” The men in green and white, spearheaded by wartime great Jock Weir, were four up inside 35 minutes - the speedy outside right managing to claim a hattrick after Jock Cuthbertson put the home side a goal up within the opening 60 seconds.t was seven by the time the visitors managed to grab their consolation, Weir adding his fourth either side of goals from Archie Buchanan and Johnny Aitkenhead and after Cuthbertson grabbed his second of the afternoon, Gordon Smith brought the rout to a close in front of a delighted 30,000-strong crowd at Easter Road. I moved to London in 1954 and followed Chelsea's home games and went round all the other London clubs when they were away from home. Back to Scotland in 1957 and followed Hibs again till moving back to London in 1966 and a season ticket to Chelsea. Now ? I've lost all interest in the game with it's millionaire players many of whose names I cant even pronounce. I'd love to see Hugh Shaw's Hibs play a present day Celtic or Liverpool. http://www.iancolquhoun.org.uk/how-hibs-taught-brazil-how-to-play-football/ |

In the 50s Ashton Gate Bristol City v Gillingham Alas cannot recall the result, first match I went to with my dad.Think their best player ever was playing John Atyeo who went on to play for England, good going for a lower league player.

First game would probably be a Donny Rovers match, first Spurs match was 3-0 win over Sunderland,65 i think, remember my Dad buying the tickets off a tout.
Remember going to Hillsborough for the West Germany - Uruguay quarter final in 66,brilliant seats sure they were 50 bob, Uruguay were all over them first 10 mins, got a corner and it was cleared to edge of penalty area and a uruguayan hit it perfectly heading for the top corner and clear as day the big blonde full back Scnellinger punched it out with his fist, officials somehow missed it and they soon lost their rag, think they had 2 sent off and ended up getting beat 4-0,could have been very different, remember the electric scoreboard telling us Rattan had been sent off at Wembley too. |

Just make it in to this. My first few games were at Portman Rd, the first on 18/11/69, Ipswich Town 1 Chelsea 4.I dont remember much about the game apart from us being down the front and dad lifting me over the fence and me sitting peering over the pitchside advertising hoarding with my brother who kept cheering at the wrong time because he was a Chelsea fan.
We also went to the Stoke game (1-1) the same season. Later in 70 we saw the game v Man U (4-0). Law, Best, and Charlton played in that game. Man U were awful but I saw those legends play. |
|
By:
that law best charlton team bar 67/ 68, to be honest were pretty awful .im sure that colin viljohn scored in that 4-0 game , who was ipswich manager in the early 70s ?

Most of Swindon Towns home games from 1964 onwards, Saturday morning picture show, swimming, then down to the County Ground, the stewards often used to let us sit on the running track. I was there for the 3 -1 victory against West Ham in the 3rd round reply of the FA Cup in 1967 , West Ham had their three world Cup stars playing, also at Wembley in 1969 for the League Cup Final win over Arsenal 3-1, all while they were in the Third Division, Don Rodgers was and still is one of my hero's, Ah those where the days, Jumpers for goalposts etc

Ellisjohn. The late great Bobby Robson was Ipswich manager then. Wilf McGuinness was ManU manager then.
Colin Viljoen got two in that game. |

First ever game was Cardiff vs Blackpool, Div 2 mid-week 1972 or 1973 at the old Ninian Park. I was going home to Ireland, missed a train and spent the night in Cardiff. Thought it would be an interesting experience!!
My memories of the game are all about the violence before, during and after the game. Don't remember the result! First ever game in Scotland was Aberdeen vs Rangers, 1974. Fans throwing half bottles of whiskey to friends on the other side of the fence on the way in, before getting frisked by the police. By this time i'd seen a number of games but this was the first time I'd ever seen fighting start in the stands, behind the directors boxes. There was then a general melee on all sides of the ground, as far as I could see. Didn't even make the news.... |

As I recall lockup there were three goals scored by goalkeepers that season. Stepney started them off but did he not later become the victim of Pat Jennings. The third one is a bit hazy but would it have been Jim Montgomery of Southampton?
I well remember George Best scoring a quite brilliant goal against Banks in a home international one Saturday afternoon - and it was disallowed. Banks was bleating like a girl after Best out-thought ( and outplayed him ), perfectly legally. There was no law or regulation at the time which made Best's action illegal! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D8IW_3_6D8 |

Seem to remember Steve Ogrizovitch scoring as a goalie for Coventry at Hillsborough in the 70 's . V Sheffield Wednesday.
Took a horrible bounce off the pitch and maybe the wind was a factor. |
