I don't think people dislike Manchester United but they have a huge following of dislikeable fans. I go to football and find their genuine fans as good, decent and knowledgeable about football as anyone. However their collection of plastic glory hounds are complete ****s. Loads of people support Man Utd for the same reason people supported Liverpool in the 80's - they wanted to support a successful team. Rather than support a team from or near their home town that all their community and mates can get behind and support.

It never fails to amaze the amount of people who are obsessed with United , there are about 5 to 6 separate threads on this forum full of people posting stuff about them , and then people complain about the coverage they get .

"We've" taken too much sh1t off you lot over the decades to let it slide when we have a good run. Most of your "fans" wouldn't even understand the Stockport songs they sing, and you want to knock City fans? Proper United fans (of which there are some) hate the "tourists" yet you're happy to go on about how many fans you have all over the world..go figure.

Me personally i dont like to boast about how many fans the commercial department claim we have , all that is about and revenue and money , yet yourselves and most high profile clubs do exactly the same thing

Liverpool fans rode the crest of a wave for many years and then the success dried up, over the years to compensate for this, unconsciously, this led to their fans to talk more and more about their history pointing this many league titles, that many European Cups and , with recycled, cliched quotes such as those magical European nights at Anfied and calling themselves the best fans in the world, and as each year without the league in particular those voices became louder and louder the sense of self-entitlement became palpable leading fans of rival clubs to dislike them even more, they already disliked them because of the success they had, the barren years that followed for rival fans was a bit like a cork popping and all that pent up anger overflowed for those rival fans that suffered watching them dominate and laud it over everyone else. The saturation / over representation of ever present ex-Liverpool players come pundits on every station talking about the club as if they're Royalty, how their fans deserve success, back in my day, Bill Shankley would say this, Bob Paisly would say that and how a player wasn't fit to wear the shirt, which is really reinforcing how good he was, boosting his own ego and standing. The nauseating fans from London who had zero sense of locality whilst blidingly and shamelessly attached themselves to success are now pot bellied middle aged men who start of each season with 'this is gonna be are year' when most just feel sorry for them.
