Willock cant play shirley, put Wissa up front and get a solid fluid midfield.A clean sheet would be more than weclome but cant see it sadly.
|
|
By:
What is your solid midfield then ?
|
|
By:
FWIW I'm not a Willock fan but Miley has looked rather jaded in midfield when he's played there and I'm not sure why Steur was overlooked on Monday night.
|
|
By:
Wissa has suffered in the "No10" he clearly is not a 10.
|
|
By:
Miley does 60 as fullback, worn out.. shunted into midfield v fresh legs.
So unfair. Joelinton, Nico and Miley, or Steur if Miley is right back. Oddly I thought wissa has had some decent moments as a 10,but possibly would be better as a false 9, so no one person in front of him through middle, but others making runs in front of him |

Going back to yesterdays press conference; something that Jaissle said was; you can have the best tactics in the world but if players make individual errors the tactics will be irrelevant. No excuse for Hornicek error for their penalty; Joelinton made an error late on in the game which lead to the goal; Pardo's dummy instead of smashing the ball into the net and Willocks miss rings true to what he said. As NP said this morning the bloke has only been in the job for 2 months. FWIW Jaissle has to be judged on results and apart from 2 monday night horror shows it hasn't been a bad start to the season. A clean sheet would be fantastic tomorrow for confidence and as for the starting line up
he plays his cards that close to his chest I wouldn't have a clue |

I have entered said competition Tiger and fully expect to win it.As for a solid midfield,i would say,Nico,Miley Stuer and Big Joe might be a starter. If we had a centre forward i would say play 3.Oscula and Wissa would be my top 2.Its all about opinions as we say.

GL with your comp entry.

Thank you,its the only thing i will get to enter this weekend likely

Well once you said you would win I decided it was a waste of my valuable time in entering.

Going up to see Matty's boys later today in hope rather than expectation.
If i'm being honest i don't fancy us at all. Here's hoping i'm completley wrong. |

Not much optimism hear either.
But we played well v liverpool, so its in there somewhere. |

By:
Good luck in the comp, its a bit of frun for the day.
Sadly I can see the team tonight to not be the team or tactics that most of us would use, I can see something like: Hornicek Dedic Thiaw Botman ![]() Hall Gonzalez Joelinton Wissa Barnes Pardon Toure/Murphy |

Joelinton makes his first start of the season as Newcastle United take on Aston Villa at St. James' Park in the Premier League (kick-off 5.30pm BST).
Newcastle United: Lukáš Horníček, Lewis Hall, Sven Botman, Nico González, Joelinton (c), Yoane Wissa, Harvey Barnes 12 Malick Thiaw 20 Matias Fernandez-Pardo 28 Joe Willock 67 Lewis Miley Substitutes: 1 Nick Pope 5 Fabian Schär 8 Aladji Bamba 10 Will Osula 14 Sean Steur 17 Bazoumana Touré 23 Jacob Murphy 33 Dan Burn 37 Amar Dedić |
|
By:
Villa cutting through us in the midfield like a knife through butter
as for their goal; how much time did he have without a challenge; no tracking by Miley. No shot on target as yet. Botman is a lucky lad to be still on the pitch. Can't see 11 players on the pitch by the end of the game |
|
By:
Lewis Hall playing three positions at once in that first half, centre back, centre back and left half.
Bish, Botman got the ball first, then the man as did Joelinton, isnt that how the game should be played? Hard? If you get the man first then fair enough its a bad tackle. Massive turnaround needed in the second half. Can see Dedic coming on early. 4-2-1-3, your having a laugh! |
|
By:
Botman got the ball first correct then decided to wipe him out; if it was a villa player that done that I would be screaming for a red card; Joelinton was unlucky with his yellow; the ref game him a yellow on his reputation; anyway. 1 chuffing shot on target; you can't expect to get anything from the game with just 1 shot on target; sad thing is; they wouldn't have scored if they played till midnight
|
|
By:
Did he play Burn up front at the end?! He needs sacking tonight. 70m striker played well for Juve and this clown plays a 7 foot defender up front.
|
|
By:
I thought Joelinton tackle was worse than Botmans.
Not seen replays, but was amazed when found out it was Botmans they checked. Ref was much better than recent stuff, but the goals have dried up. Hey ho, always another chance next week. Palace away,... No easy games. |
|
By:
It's not good is it ?
I've seen a replay and i'm surprised he didn't see red ( ref wasn't even sent to the screen). At the risk of repeating myself, this system doesn't work and this fella doesn't seem to see it. Apart from the first 20 minutes or so I found it difficult to watch. I don't think we had a shot on target other than Botman in the 2nd half. Wissa was wasteful late on when he should have passed to Barnes or crossed to I think it was Toure. 6 pointa next week.... can't wait. Horrible football is me being polite. |

JoeLinton in a two in midfield
It's like nothing was learnt from Monday night.Pardo's confidence must be on the floor. Left Middle now right. I was of the understanding that he was wanted as AG's replacement but it was thought we couldn't get him so Toure was brought in. (maybe i'm wrong) We now seem to have three players who appear to be left sided forwards. Surely you play players in their position if you want to get the best out of them. It's just a mess. Soft centre powderpuff up front and sloppy at the back. |
|
By:
We were OK at getting stuck in and working hard
The double booking knocked our ability to tackle, and I don't know how Miley ended up inside Thiaw for the goal. Poor decision not to challenge manzambi for ball, and that's it. I quite enjoyed the game, despite us making so many bad decisions. Worryingly Pardo looked dejected 2nd half. There was lots of signals between him and Nico, first half,... Dunno why.. Summit not right. Wan bisaka had a good game unti going off injured,.. Our left back was good too! |
|
By:
Quite enjoyed the game ? Were we at the same match
![]() Dunno if you could see it but Murphy appeared to be coaching the back four from the touchline late on. |
|
By:
Frustrating the errors, but I've kind of accepted where we are, so today was a step forward.
We need much improvement, but surely getting Steur in there will improve creativity, and Nico and Hall are good players. When Pardo went off, Miley got forward more and produced some good stuff, of course that leaves us more open, but that's part of the game. |
|
By:
Nearly time for motd
Could be a late one, and check how bad we were. |
|
By:
Not had a home clean sheet since January which is a record 16 games; does that not tell you that something needs changing at the back

|
By:
Im sick of modern football. You see these managers coming in having achieved nothing and dumping players without giving them even a basic chance or run of games. Its usually not playing them (Toure) or if they really want rid, playing them out of position (Woltemade).
Copy & paste this 4-2-3-1 tripe like lemmings. |
|
By:
the Owners btw are clueless. They are one dumpster fire after another. Incredible there is not some sort of uprising over there if the natives saw how much money they are wasting on these "investments"

Clueless
Newcastle 0 Aston Villa 1 NUFC.COM Newcastle may have unveiled a new version of The Blaydon Races before kick-off on Saturday, but there weren't many smiling faces at St.James' Park by the full time whistle. Matthias Jaissle lost on home soil for the first time thanks to a display from his side that bordered on the inept and was greeted by a chorus of boos at half and full time. The only goal of the game came from Johan Manzambi, who rejected a move to Tyneside in the summer in favour of Villa and was left unattended in the United box to nod home a Joao Gomes cross on 36 minutes. United's most dangerous moment came early in the second half from the boot of Sven Botman, but unlike Monday's effort, he failed to find a way past 'keeper Zion Suzuki. Making one change to the side that started at Coventry, Joelinton returned to captain the side from central midfield, Jacob Murphy making way for Matias Fernandez-Pardo on the right and Yoane Wissa fielded at centre forward. The ineffectiveness of that formation saw replacements warming up after half time; Bazoumana Toure and Will Osula both introduced barely ten minutes after the restart. The tempo and frequency of United's attacks increased, but the quality of crossing remained uniformly poor with nothing remotely troubling Suzuki as the minutes ticked away and our efforts became desperate. A team lacking any poise or coherence ended up with Dan Burn leading the attack once again, trying in vain to trouble a Villa side who needed to be no more than workmanlike to take all three points and could have added to their tally. Jaissle may have spoken about his players needing to show a reaction in this game, but like his selections and tactics, the gap between aspiration and reality at present is visible. The reaction was insipid, the effort misplaced, the spark missing. To our eyes there is a credibility issue with this coach and his players; a paying audience largely unconvinced by what they've seen and heard thus far this season. |

Joelinton lucky Botman confused var, lol.
I'm still not convinced we are that bad. Deffo poor, but danger is talking us into worse than we are. Saw the wissa miss again, and osula running offside was a bugga, barnes is too close for a pass, and Toure was probably the ball, but a lot going on, and plan c being best option for a pass, it's no wonder he shot and missed. A lot depends on how good villa are... If villa are good then we have poor season If villa are poor then we need to find somebody else with Coventry and hull or we could well join them. |
|
By:
Having a look about the socials this morning and I think it's pretty clear the journo's have made their minds up about Jaissle.
He's out of his depth. Will those who brought him listen to the noise and act or will they back their man who they shelled out 9m to release from his previous employment. |
|
By:
As I've said since they have hired him he will and should be judged on results; as it stands at the moment including cup games; 4 wins out of 9; not spectacular but not the worst we have had by far; worrying all the same that they only had 1 shot on target yesterday and Villa carved through them especially in the 1st half with such ease. He needs to turn things round quickly or it could be a very long season
|
|
By:
He needs to bin the bloody awful 4231 system bish that would be a start.
