Chelsea played to a good plan tbh, just 1 stupid error has cost them badly.

Chelsea has 1-1 written all over it, in my humble.

Barca are a shadow of their great side aren't they, never looked like scoring until they were gifted the goal, they don't suffocate teams at the higher level the way they used to, can't move the ball anywhere quick enough.......la liga must be sh1te.

Best away leg result barca have had for years. Judge them after the home leg.

It's because the players meant to do that aren't implemented yet. Dembele's season has been ruined by injuries so he hasn't really got going at all, and Coutinho obviously can't play CL anyway, but they haven't really found the setup to get him in so far anyway. Valverde persists with this 4-4-2 with 4 CM's across the middle formation which I'm not a fan of tbh, but Barcelona are much more defensively sound than days of old, and rely on brilliance up top to break teams down. They actually had much more possession vs Chelsea than they typically get in La Liga these days, mainly because Chelsea mostly conceded giving up possession to them in the first place.

Ultimately they are still massively in the driving seat now anyway. Going to be very hard to get anything at the Nou Camp.

If the defender had cleared the ball upfield the possession loonies would have screamed "hoof".
Every week we see goals conceded in this way.

Not like Chelsea were playing a possession game though is it. They had 27% possession home to a Barcelona side that rarely enjoys possession like this anymore (they average 60.9% possession in La Liga). Plus it was just a badly executed pass, wasn't even under huge pressure iirc and the targets were pretty open too. Wasn't great from Azpilicueta either to sell himself the way he did.

there is another, more obvious reason for Barca's allegedly poor performance - the tiny pitch.

I've been to Stamford Bridge and I was shocked at how small the pitch was. Barca's game excels on bigger and wider pitches.
Lets wait for the Nou Camp leg before passing judgement, eh ? Wink

Of course they are in a good position going into the 2nd leg but as said earlier they are nowhere near the side we saw a few years back, no shame there though as they were truly great.

I wouldn't rule Chelsea out, if they can be as organized at the back, the slower passing of this current Barca side will still find it hard to pull them about and the pace of the Chelsea counter will cause big problems.

I seem to remember Chelsea pulling this off against a better Barca side than this one.

Barca have lost one CL home tie since 2009, to Bayern Munich in 2013, and their record has been exemplary since then.

There's a lot of sense in being boring in the first, away leg of 180 minutes of football.
By:

When: 21 Feb 18 17:39
The point is that they were not trying to be boring, they play to the same style that they did in their pomp, trying to break sides down with the pass pass pass approach, the problem is for this to work you need to be able to do it quickly and drag sides out of position, this Barca side last night could not do that, until the mistake they never looked like scoring for one single moment, whilst Chelsea always looked dangerous on the counter, it will be exactly the same game in the Nou Camp although the bigger pitch will help Barca.

They'd be better sitting off Chelsea and inviting them onto them as Chelsea need a goal, but Barca will play their normal game and leave themselves open to the counter.
By:

When: 21 Feb 18 17:50
The point is Barca ended the game as clear favourites to qualify.

they did but needed a big helping hand to achieve it. didn't do much to suggest they won't get another hiding away from home against a better and more in form side than chelsea
By:

When: 21 Feb 18 18:09
The big helping hand was 73% possession.

well yeah that too. don't think they'll getting that much of the ball away from home again unless they get very lucky with the draw or play united Devil
