The point is this rothko
Chelseas money means the manager is expected to be in the top4 and get out of the ucl group stages.
The expectation on Ranieri was mid table safety and a cup run.
Neither jose nor tinkerman was able to fulfill the demands.
Arsene can tho...

no you are wrong the expectation on CR was PL survival which was very much still achievable
Owners panicked
and this survey you quote send the link as it sounds total bollacks to me

isnt it funny that last season every neutral wanted them to win the PL and now every neutral wants them to get relegated

Got the survey out of a book called soccernomics
buy it on ebay
Thats the problem with you guys
i like watching football but thats it.
The sacking of Ranieri is a sound business decision not the biggest piece of treachery since jesus was sent to the cross.
If the board believe CR can not motivate the employees to stay in the EPL then they are quite right to get some one in who will.
And make no mistake as sunderland have shown in successive years it is the right way forward..

Unbelievable decision. Let down by the players more than anything this season. As others have stated, just shows up the crazy state & expectations of football in the top flight these days. I guess the club must have suddenly got amnesia. Someone needs to remind them what the manager did with the team last season.

And another thing.
This idea that players aren't trying.
Kevin Garside in the independent today said the problem is not that leicester arent trying but they are trying too hard.
I agree with him.
When i have seen lec play this year it has looked like they have been trying to replicate what they did last season.
Only opponents are wise to them now.
It is the fault of the coach that they have not been able to evolve.

So you would probably have sacked Alex Ferguson then who didn't win anything in his first 5 seasons and didn't win any league title for 7 years? or Wenger who didn't win a title in his first season but won the double the next? or Brian clough who didn't win anything in his first season at forest but and finished 8th in League 2, but won 2 European cups and league title 3 years after that.

Patience is to help managers build a team the way they want it.

Ranieri lost Kante and the scouting coach who found him moved on, neither were replaced.

It's a business decision taken by the people who made the bad business deicisons in the first place that led to them sacking him! i.e. not replacing personnel adequetely.

They are simply putting the blame on to him to save face, and you are right that English football is slowly becomeing like American culture in terms of hiring and firing at will, they've always had that soulless approach because all they care about is money, didn't think English sport would ever mirror that tbh.

OK lets agree to disagree plenty of examples of clubs who have sacked managers and it hasnt worked
think they would have survived under CR anyway given that the result against Sevilla was a decent one and didnt show a lack of motivation of the players as you state

I actually did predict their flirtation with relegation Wink

Might have a sneaky few quid on Leicester to get relegated as no way will their squad even with some additions be able to cope. A few injuries , loss of confidence - you never know

As for the replacement, surely any prospective manager would be too scared to get the job, as they'd probably get sacked for keeping them up!

scandi,
Fergus yes
Wenger no and clough no
The person who builds the club these days is the director of football or the chief exec
Not the manager.
Look at abramovic. Mubarak at city.
A coach these days gets 3 years tops.
The epitome of the modern coach in my opinion is Carlo Ancelotti.
Popular with players, not too intense but tactically aware.
He leaves the business of youth teams, player development and player recruitment to the guys above him
And he is bl00dy good too. Like Phil Jackson the 'zen' basketball coach in the US
Since you are so fond of my americanisms.
He won NBA titles with the chicago bulls (jordan) and the lakers (shaq)
People are obsessed with guys like Fergie, shankly, jock stein but those days are long gone and they aint ever coming back bro

Can't believe this has happened unless somebody already lined up.  Impossible to go into last 13 matches without a manager.  Hope Claudio had a water-tight contract to get a full payout for remaining time - £20m?  Pearson seems to be fav?

Don't think many would be scared of taking a 3 year contract on £2 - £3m a year with compo for getting sacked.  Think I might apply Silly

The Leicester management obviously felt than any manager would have won them the title last season.

I know football has changed and it's all about money, but if the Leicester players can't get up for a manager that won the the league who are they going to get up for, they are not at the foot of the table and could just well survive.

And as for manager not being given time anymore, Wenger has won nothing of note for 13 years. Pochettino is in his third season and might not win anything....by your reckoning he's for the sack at the end of the season Shocked

Surprised at the timing but he had to go,players are pleasing themselves turning up on Euro nights but not in the EPL and left unchecked Leicester were in real trouble of relegation.

Wenger was pilloried for saying that the top 4 was a trophy but i doubt he has ever said anything more true.
I do not think there is another manager in the epl who could have done what he has done.

I am not sure too many managers could have done what claudio did last season.
It was for all that a pretty basic game plan that he did employ.
Organised defence and swift counter attacks.
It was fine for one season without european midweek football.

In order to cope with that ranieri needed to evolve. He couldnt do that. Its not the players fault. They just cant cope with the european/epl schedule.
Just like Jose couldnt with chelsea last season. Brenda with Liv, Moyes and LVG at Man U.

My take on it is him leaving is probably the right move but too late, he shouldve stepped back to a new role like Director of Football or some sh1t before now.

Nevver in a million years should he be SACKED, it should always have been his decision what happens next, I think if he was asked to take another job he wouldve.

Leicester now deserve to be relegated and deserve to be the next Portsmouth, never to be seen again in the EPL. Feel sorry for their fans they deserve better from their board.

with all due respect you arent half talking some crap

no offence like

ranieri has pulled off the miracle of my lifetime anyway with fck all money

wenger has trousered the best part of £100 million since last winning a major competition 13 years ago

the fact one has gone and the other stays is an absolute disgrace and says all that is wrong with modern day football pretty much  Sad

I'm way too lazy to read through the whole thread but I just need to add my disgust at the decision. Are the people who make these decisions real football men? In fact are a lot of the people who pay to watch their team nowadays REAL football people.

It may seem a stretch but things like this just prove to me that the game is nothing compared to what it used to be, and the saddest thing is, it ever will be again.

Disgrace!!!!!!!

I watched a lot of Leicester last season and never really bought into Ranieri as being a genius like the media would have us believe, there were plenty of games they needed to make earlier changes but he was totally inflexible with his approach, not because he stubbornly thought he knew better but because there was never a plan B form the start.  How many times was Okazaki subbed exactly on 60 minutes no matter what was goign on in the gamme??

Obviously to win any league you need a fair bit of luck and Leicester had it in spades.  Once the league started to form and when they hit the top in January a wet sh1te sitting on the touchline couldve motivated those players to go out and fight for every ball, Ranieri didnt do anything miravulous.

The surprise that Leicester could win the league looked to me more like a case of the top sides being over estimated and the perfect storm of some very good players coming together at one club at the peak of their careers.  Kante, Vardy and Morgan being the 3 main influencers on that side, for a long time Mahrez was only showing up when the team already had a lead but was otherwise missing for huge spells in games and it was surprising to me to hear so much praise lumped on him for Leicesters rise.

Leicester aren't a top 4 club  ,  they're not even EPL regulars  - yep, a bog standard  Championship side - that's where they live most seasons .

They were due to go down 2 seasons ago  - they  were looking doomed .

If C-R had managed a half way  finish last season and no Euro games  and Leicester were in 12th place there would be no talk of a sacking i would assume .

I do not believe that any coach who wins the league one year then gets relegated the next can be surprised if he gets the shove.
Its a pity
but bottom line is Claudio was failing
Wenger is succeeding..
..as long as he keeps making top 4
