Is sideshowbob a bbc pundit by any chance?
By:
I do wonder how bob makes money on here, clearly he does but not knowing about 35m player is rather questionable.

He might be Clarke Carlisle.

The year silver birch won the national, coming up the hill put up 3 horses... they finished 1st 2nd and 3rd and the trifecta paid 11,000/1 but as this tournament goes, this is most likely the best tip |

Messi/Neymar) and give James the consolation prize of 'best young player.' Also the possibility that they get eliminated against Brazil with him underperforming and then it'll be easy for 'them' to pass him over. He's been the best player though. |

hope you had your bol0x on. Great call, win or lose.Atb. wd GL |

only possible way now that rodriguez doesnt win is if messi or neymar can keep up with him in scoring.
i mean he has scored 5 goals and we arent even in the quarter finals yet ,, |

^^ silly post
columbia could go out in the next round. |
By:
I think he could still win it even if they do go out. He's been brilliant. He'll need another ggod game even in defeat though.

Charlton, that's some tricast, I backed the first and second that year and my third choice fell, I thought that was good!

Not sure how the voting works but logically if you play for a cr@p team that do well and you are the main reason then the focus should be even more on you. Messi has loads of talent helping him and to a lesser degree so does Neymar. Not sure logic is what will be the main determinant of the prize though. ![]() |

The whole bet hinges on them getting past brazil, if they don't do that he'll be forgotten about with all the excitement that comes after.

The golden boot has never been won by a player whose team never made it as far as the semis and only twice has a semi final team provided the winner.

golden ball I mean of course.

this bet is goldne ball. Not sure if that changes owt. Also, didn't Salenko win Golden Boot?

Cant wait to see the Brazil-Colombia odds....Brazil were awful today, bit more belief and Chile would have been through
By:
great call good luck
By:
Colombia 15 /4 surely that's a bet.
By:
Brilliant call as well. As a backer of Columbia already I don't want to after time but if he wins I will get you a skinful.

Thanks all, onwards and upwards to what I've always said would be the crunch game and in all honesty i don't see anything from Brazil to concern me - I keep hearing 'they'll improve' but where from? Hulk huffed and puffed and prob played as well as he has done for Brazil but he certainly doesn't scare defences, nor does Fred nor Jo, is that it, is there no one else on the bench?
I was pleased with Col defence today and gk looks solid (back up gk isn't app) and while Brazil obv won't be easy I'm confident enough, I'm concerned about Germany though - the pace in attack could do Col if they do meet in the semi. The voting is Fifa Tech committee and chosen members of the press: The Golden Ball will go to the competition’s best player. FIFA will announce a shortlist of ten players after the semi-finals. Members of the media and the Technical Study Group of FIFA will decide on the winner until the end of the Final (50/50). Col beat Brazil then neymar doesn't win and worst case for the bet is then, assuming the semis are Arg v Ned and Ger v Col then it's messi v Robb (and poss rvp) v Muller v James. Any other line up (and i still think there is a fair chance the Dutch will wilt at some point) then James odds must shorten, though tbh i didn't think he'd be this short now! I think I'll let it ride until after the Dutch play the tough mexicans and maybe lay a bit off the Golden ball bet, the boot bet can't come off can it? |
By:
Brazil will have to play better than they have in any of the 4 matches so far, my money is on Columbia at those odds. I've come to the conclusion that Brazil simply aren't very good
By:
Suppose the odds are realistic...was expecting brazil a bit shorter but seems everybodys copped on to how ordinary this team is, will try & get 4/1 as think Colombia odds will get a bit shorter

Fantastic shout spyker, the best I've ever seen on here.

Spyker, I notice tou mentioned the Castrol index thing. I was actually looking at it last night, having never heard of it before, and learned that they've used it at two or three minor tourneys previously. Do you know much about it? It has to help that James is topping that too.
By:
MDH go to: http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/statistics/castrol-index/index.html (one does feel a bit dirty visiting the fifa site!). It shows how players are actually doing without the emotion - messi has basically won it forever - and might indicate how the tech cmte are thinking as i'm assuming they have more weight than the meeja.
By:
That was the page I was looking at. Just wondered if the metrics carried any weight with the people who decide on these awards. Was surprised to see Luiz so high, as an example (before his 'goal' tonight, to boot.)
By:
Think your biggest threat by far is Messi here
By:
im starting to think that Colombia really could go all the way and win the whole bloody thing..
they have built up such momentum with each victory and confidence and self belief are flowing through the team. this lad rodriguez is a superstar... its roy of the rovers stuff |
By:
i'd be just or more concerned about muller or benzema...if they keep scoring goals all the way to the final one of them will probably win it
By:
MDH - my understanding is that as FIFA came up with the parameters for the Index then some fifa bods must think it has some use - other than a useful sponsor oppo - I presume the tech cmte came up with the index and are happy with it, it takes into account quality of opposition and is different from opta. Not for 1 minute would i say 'james is top of it so he def wins' but it def isn't a bad thing him being top for as long as he can!
