What a performance for 45 minutes play, as above whatever happens now you have had and hopefully carry on to have a decent run for your money. Must have a huge chance to beat Uruguay, if they do and he puts in a performance there will have a great shout. Regarding quarters, Brazil won't have an easy time against chile imo, and Columbia don't have a lot to fear really.

Martinez mom even though James 'made' 2 and scored 1, boo hiss (tho do have him for top scorer) - now the fun really starts! I think his price will settle down mid/high teens until Sat, then half that after the victory over Uruguay as they don't look up to much esp without pacman. Then I'll think about laying off - if momentum really gets behind him then I may lay off pre match but tbh the bets were all from cheeky winnings so I'm not too bothered. I'm in for about 15k so I should have a fun week or so!

that goal against Japan was outrageously brilliant.

If there has been a better 100/1 shout with such solid reasoning on here, i cannot recall it. Beat Uruguay - which i have no doubt they will - and this kid will be into single figures. It's been an exciting but ordinary enough tournament in terms of quality and Rodgriguez, Robben and probably neymar have been the stand-outs. Great work fella

Great shout spyker....I hope they keep going for you to give him a chance to win it.

Fantastic stuff Spyker and I hope this comes in for you. Great to see a well-reasoned argument put forward and for it to come to fruition and with a bit of luck this thread might have its level raised to 'legendary' status. I'm on the 'wrong' Colombian for top scorer, Teofilo Gutierrez (cow's arse/banjo etc.) - wish I'd followed you in!

Cheers fellers - when i was sorting my bets and settled on Col and looked into james deeper everything seemed to 'open up'  - not exactly an epiphany moment but you know what I mean. The only thing i could see going wrong in qual was an injury or Col not turning up but reading stuff from around the world the latter didn't seem likely and you can't legislate for the former.
Johhny - I've done the whole Col front line, well Teo, bacca, Jackson and James with the reasoning that 1 of them needed to score a hatful if Col were to win. Looks like the goals will be spread about, though if James keeps this up then those 45 mins he was on the bench could become very useful!

I've got Teo, James and Bacca (where art thou?) too, spyker. Seemed likelier than than your Golden Ball tip, but I wish I'd followed you in. I still think they'll have to make the semis for him to have a chance, but he'd be the winner if we stopped the tourney now imo.

Bacca is injured but may be back for uruguay and unless James puts in 2 monster performances in the next 2 matches (2 hatricks!) then yes they have to beat Brazil (or Chile!) for the Germans in the semi's (by which time Ger will be knackered!). That is a possible reason why he's been such a high price but as i said early on i have never fancied brazil so not been an issue for me. Col haven't been tested with a pacey (decent) attack and prob won't against Ur and not so sure Brazil can be called pacey - Chile and esp germans would be a stiff test.

As people have said, a very good bet now. I will be honest and did not really know too much about him before this but having seen their 3 games, he is a very good player. If they can get to the Semi's he would have a good chance of winning it provided he is a key part of them getting there in the next 2 games!

Much respect!

He won't win it the current price is nuts. Laying away happily here.

Only fashionable players win it. He won't.

Can you not give some credit to an excellent selection (no matter what happens from now on) rather than showing yourself to be such an unpleasant individual?

It's all abaht opinions innit? Been a decent word cup for me anyway (should have been better tbh but been too restrained) and if tree wants to carry on then who am i to stop him? Can you save it until Sat though as i need a few days to work out which cinema system is best to order on the back of your laying of the bet? TVM.
I'd hold off laying until after Uruguay as he'll be half whatever price he is pre ko - i may come out to play then!

fingers crossed he doesn't bump into you cleaning them tree!!Grin

cracking call spyker - for me they have had a very easy group on a par with france group so will be interesting if they can back it up against better opposition but they look like they are enjoying it unlike a few previous columbian teams in world cups...he is a very exciting player and he actually rates as overly priced now from what i have seen, like you pointed out there progression in the tourney is key for you getting a result but i see them dispatching uruguay no problem then it is down to james to turn it on and drag them through one more round...

apart from your man and neymar for what it is worth, i think robben has been the player of the tourney so far but the dutch meet the other team i like mexico in the second round and that will not be easy for the dutch and for you i would be hoping the mexicans can do the business which i believe will happen, if this does occur you have got a serious plumb tickler

Sturridge top goalscorer at 60/1; I took £11 on that.

Spent most of the world cup on Twitter. Maybe tweet him for a refund

Yeah harry - Neymar, Robben Muller and benzemar are the dangers for me atm, chuck in messi if has a good performance today but he needs more than an ok display and a goal, I can't help but think that the Dutch will implode at some point and poss the French as well. Basically it will prob be whichever of the aforementioned gets further, short-list is announced after semis and then voting until, in theory, the final whistle i think though usually half time it's announced.

looks like you will need him to make semis with this bet spyker like you say...have been trying to find some stats on this but take it it is the first time it has taken place?? as cannot find world cup?? although it has happened in euros with the winning team containing the player of the tournament on each occasion it has been awarded...has their been an award before in world cup? i could of sworn you stated this before in thread but can't find it?

Historically if you're not in the Semi's you can't win it, but winning it is not necessary (as voting closes at HT during the final). Previous few winners:

2010 - Forlan (Uruguay - Semis)
2006 - Zidane (France - Runners Up) I recall a lot of people laying him after the headbutt, not realising voting had already closed.
2002 - Kahn (Germany - Runners Up)
1998 - Ronaldo (Brazil - Runners Up)
1994 - Romario (Brazil - Winners)

I don't know why you're all getting so excited, he's being overshadowed by the other Rodriguez

Hamez Rodriguez is the one you should all have backed, the commentators are all raving about him(!)

Bloob - i spent 1/2 hr checking I had the right Rod at the right price! Looks like Aguero is out so Argentina's task got a whole lot harder and messi went out to 10's for this briefly. Benzemar didn't do much, muller is def now a big danger, james is ahead on all the secondary measurements for the top scorer (assists and mins) so depending how things go against Ur he could be good for that as well!
UR are a wounded dog and the match could go 1 of 2 ways for me -  either they perform above themselves as the whole world is against them or they lose it and Col get a hatful - there is also the danger that they lose discipline and break James' leg!

Ta Johhny, there's been a few articles in the last few days in papers and they all seem to have read the same stuff i did a month ago - shame none of them did it (and hadn't heard of him!) before the WC started! He is top of the 'castrol' index so officially the best player of the first round, lets see what neymar has got..........
