Away from home in Europe when they really don't need to win. No thanks.

Did they need to win away to Arsenal twice? Or at Juventus? Or at Barcelona?

The favourites for the tournament aren't going to play for a draw against one of the weakest sides left in are they? Manchester United's home record has been awful this season. Their record versus the top teams has been horrendous. They are without Mata. 1/2 is dead right.

They were lucky against Arsenal. It still doesn't matter though. They do not need to win tonight.

If they are drawing with say 15 mts to go, hell, even if they are 2-1 down with the away goal in the bag, they won't try too hard. Why would they? There's no need.

Watch the match tonight and you'll be eating your words. There's a huge gap between the teams.

1-2 is going to look very generous when you witness bayern opening them up at will

You can only say something like they don't need to win if they really don't need to win, like in the 2nd leg when they are already 3-0 4-0 up.

Hopefully United will play a smart game, defend deep, give them no space in behind and hit on the counter. If they do that United have every chance.

I remember I said the exact same thing when Chelsea KO'd Barca and Barca were a lot better than BM.
By:
high_lander
When: 01 Apr 14 16:13
Why do they need to win? Are you seriously telling me you think BM will bust a gut to win an away CL fixture at OT? They only need a draw to take back home.

Of course it depends on United. If they go all out attack they will get thrashed imo. If they play a smart game they can def get a result.

problem is moyes may inwardly think a narrow defeat is a good result (it keeps them in the tie theoretically), if manu are 1-0 down with 15 minutes to go are they going to go for it knowing an open game chasing an equaliser could mean they get picked off with a 2nd or third away goal?

If you offered Pep a 1-1 right now he would rip your hand off.

You know why? Because he is not an idiot. Which is more than I can say for some of the muppets on here.

I doubt that very much. He's a top class manager managing a top class team and there's no way he would be happy with a 1-1. I can't see Man Utd getting a point unless Bayern Munich get a player sent off.

high_lander - you are right in that they technically don't need to win, but like i asked earlier, why have they needed to win any of the numerous away games that they have won?

They might not 'need' to win, but they will almost certainly want to win.

but they've hardly fared well in their last three home games against English sides, have they? 0-2 and 1-1 Arsenal, and beaten by Man City's reserve team. He'd be stupid if he ignored those stats, imo.

By:

Biscuit, when it comes down to it they will not bust a gut to win the game if they come up against strong resistance. Like I said, it's up to United. If they play stupid ie they go all out attack then they could well get thrashed. If United play smart, they will give BM plenty to think about. If that happens BM will most likely decide to accept the draw.
By:
