Seems poor old woy got a bit excited trying to make smallbrain (the only England player having a mare )understand pass to cheeky monkey andros as much as poss .he straight away said no offence to Andros who was not bothered apparently
And now the glory of an unbeaten run as our manager getting us to wcup is in tatters Woy may walk and who could blame him |

can anyone explain to me on what level it could be considered racist? i dont get it.
By:
didnt he basically say "feed the monkey" meaning "pass it to Andros"?
can't do that in this day and age. |
By:
towsened looks half white to me, theres a lot darker players than him in the squad
By:
andros townsend @andros_townsend 8h
I don't know what all this fuss is about. No offence was meant and none was taken! It's not even news worthy! That should be the end of it really. |
By:
This doesnt seem to me something that should be swept under the carpet. Being openly racist is one thing, but you shouldnt say anything that can be construed as racist and woy has left himself open to that..

Question for racism specialists.....
If manager said to Rooney: 1) "charge them like a rhino" 2) "charge them like a white rhino" 3) "charge them like a black rhino" What, if anything, would be racist? |
By:
Bear in mind all Rhinos are extremely bad tempered feckers......
By:
only a racist would consider it racist!
By:
I always thought Andros was Greek!

Best thing nowdays is to say nothing, too many people looking to be offended,it`s no wonder that modern England football teams have been so poor, the dressing room must be a laugh a minute

It won't be one of the players. It will be leaked by the friend or girlfriend of one of the players whom he just happened to mention to in conversation, not thinking it would be passed on. Young player who can't start rabbiting on and keeps putting his foot in it with virtually harmless comments 4,8.
40-50 tears ago George Best was skipping training for a week or two on a shagathon. Times have changed. |

townsend's father is jamaican and mother from cyprus. hence the greek name

The fella from the Black lawyers assoc' has said on talksport that the FA have not investigated this properly and need to as he believes their is a case for Woy to answer and an apology is not good enough for him he also said that "kick it out" are not impartial as they are funded by the FA .
Jason Roberts also believes Woy has been out of order . |

Knew it wouldn't take long for that idiot to get involved.
The black society of lawyers campaigning against racism when their members have to be of a certain race ![]() |

correct imo, doubt there is any malice aforethought from a player here - somebody probably re-told the joke and it went from there until it reached someone who wanted to make mischief, which would not have taken long. Peter Herbert is a parasitic, self-publicising twunt on the fringes of the game desperately trying to find a way in. Shame on Talksport for giving him air time. Roy's alright and I reckon most of the players think so, too. |
By:
Didn't Herbert accuse Spurs fans of racism because they sang 'yid army' at home games? Idiot.
By:
you would n't have got this in Capello's reign though - he certainly would n't have known the English word 'astronaut' and nor the word 'monkey' probably.

By:
Defo not Wilshere, he'd nipped out the fire exit for a quick f ag.
By:
all this is political correctness gone completely crazy to the point of rolling in it's own faeces and calling for mummy
is the word monkey racist when referring to an actual real monkey? some people are so incredibly thick that they don't understand context. These sort of people are often professional footballers or work in the media |
By:
agreed, one of the most ridiculous 'stories' ever. how the feck is this news!
By:
the fact that its Woy and he is seen as such an inoffensive chap generally is why people are surprised. If it was certain other managers in the Premier League that had done this, people would be doing more condemning and would be less inclined to move swiftly on.
By:
done what?? he hasnt done anything.
By:
alright said instead of done. Its what he said that has caused this media furore
By:
Hes English, the Irish and Scots happy to find fault.
By:
okay freddiek what did he say that was wrong?
By:
No one sets back the advancement of black culture in the UK more than Jason Roberts and the Black Lawyers society. Black players in this country must be cringing going into this weekends fixtures thanks to these self promoting idiots.
No doubt the media will be called by other meddlers up and down the country with stories of racist abuse during the upcoming matches and set relations back even further. |
By:
mm, he shouldnt have used the word monkey when referring to black people
i don't think he's racist any more than u do. The fact is he's put his foot in it, made a gaffe whatever. I expected better from him, this is like something big Ron would have done |
By:
Hes English, the Irish and Scots happy to find fault.
The Irish and Scots couldn't care less about inoffensive stuff said at English team meetings. Only the real racists out there are trying to invent a problem here out of nothing. |
By:
He wasnt referring to a black person Freddie , he was referring to a player. Roy Hodgson doesnt look at Townsend and see a black man first and everything else second. He sees an English footballer who is having the week of his life and in front of the rest of the experienced players and squad tells a tale that implies he is the man for the occassion.
The only people who see a black man in this 'story' are the naive cretins trying to make out something its not. Perhaps you should take a good look at yourself Freddie because unless you are on a wind up you clearly cannot separate a mans colour from his standing as a person. |
By:
He wasn't referring to black people though was he.
Comparing him to Ron 'Lazy ****g ******' Atkinkson is way off the mark. |
By:
This story obviously hasn't had the effect the Sun wanted it to have. What with it being almost unanimously discredited as a completely ridiclous non-story on social networking sites, plus Townsend himself and Rooney coming to Roy's defence, all in all it's made the Sun look pretty stupid.
They've gone from yesterdays headline story, front page news to it barely warranting a mention in todays paper. you'd have expected the 'England manager in race row' to have at least had some kind of follow up, but no they appear to have moved on already. Can't think why?! |
By:
wallis, im not the one in the wrong. You don't refer to a black man either indirectly or directly as a monkey in this day and age. So either u accept that woy has been insensitive or we give him a pass cos he's old
as i said already you can't say anything that can be construed as racist or racially insensitive when you're in his position he's supposed to be a safe pair of hands and he's now caused the biggest furore since Hoddle's comments |
By:
Perhaps we should strike all primates from the dictionary then Freddie. Roy hasnt caused any furore, the person who has done is the brave man who gave the story to the newspaper. I wonder if this 'champion of black people' was paid for his story ?? because if he was that offended Im sure he wouldnt have been trying to make some financial gain out it (that was sarcasm).
If Andros Townsend cant understand what the fuss is about then how can you possibly level racist allegations at Roy Hodgson - are you the injured party ? have you found his comments insulting to your way of life ? somehow I doubt it. Roberts and the lawyers are just self promoting and doing nothing other than whipping up racial hatred which is allegedly what they are trying to stamp out. |
By:
just try and put yourself in Woy's position at half-time. you just wouldn't say it would u?
however much u want to defend him u surely can't deny he's been insensitive. Stuff like that is not on the table. this is 2013 |
By:
Freddie , is the anecdote a tale about how the famous, glamorous and popular people are being outshone by a lesser known therefore continue letting him do what he is doing ? or is it a racist slur on black people ?
Once you can answer that honestly that should give you everything you need to know about how stupid this whole thing is. I feel sorry for Townsend because this was one of the best weeks of his life and its been ruined by PC idiots and someone inside the England setup that has stabbed him in the back for the sake of trying to undermine Hodgson and make a few quid. As said earlier on the thread How long will it be before some idiot starts monkey chanting at him the next time he plays football ? andros townsend @andros_townsend 8h I don't know what all this fuss is about. No offence was meant and none was taken! It's not even news worthy! |

When I take my daughter to the zoo I will be on my guard to look around for any black footballers, lawyers or journos before saying 'look at the monkeys' as we approach the enclosure. Heaven forbid it could be misconstrued.
I mean fancy referring to a monkey as a monkey. We all now know that when referring to an actual monkey we should use the term 'the animal formerly known as a monkey.' That way there is absolutely no room for doubt. Thank God Roy didn't use a blackboard too to demonstrate his point or the poor fella would, as we speak, be stripping down to his undercrackers for a public flogging outside FA HQ. The great paradox is such nonsensical cries of racism actually stir race divisions amongst the mentally weak. ![]() |
