Rangers may be back in 2 year but they seem to spend more than many spl teams.when surely they should be able to pick the best youngsters in Scotland for free and let them have a shot
By:
I am an Irish catholic btw and no Rangers fan.... I like Hibs as the manager was manager of Shelbourne fc during our most successful spell. Its true about Rangers they overspend especially on non scots to the detriment of the national team

Great result for St Johnstone over Norwegian leaders, hope they can do Minsk,
Champions of England last season couldn't get out of group stages and no other EPL team bettered Celtics last 16 and none beat the memories of ending Barcas spell on the world. Do you really think a top 6 championship club could do that??? |
By:
Fantastic result for St Johnstone. Well done to all concerned.
By:
joe i think Brighton would do do Barca and Spartak Moscow easy
By:
The Saints will now be on the p1ss and tough for next weeks games
By:
What was the aggregate score for St Johnstone please
By:
Probably a bigger shock tonight is Utrecht going out to a side from Luxembourg.
By:
I take it Derry didnt beat Trabzonspor then?
By:
Linfield look like they're going through. A goal up in extra time. Derry got beat 0-3 in the end up, faded late in the second half against a very good side.
By:
texas 2-1 1-1 tonight and 0-1 in rosenborg
By:
Linfield going to fall short

Thanks winner winner and chaser. Seems an awful long time since Shamrock Rovers were leading Spurs in a europa group match. A disaster for league of ireland clubs this season
By:
When was it Shamrock qualified for groups
By:
Just last season but with all the losses this year it makes it a distant memory
By:
Surely Celtic should only play 1 or 2 two legged ties to qualify. lets be honest Cliftonville had no chance against them.
By:
used to be 1 straight in only 5-6 year ago maybe then more and more qualifiers appear.only good thing is we cant get hit with any german, spanish, english teams etc
By:
when it was one qualifier we ended up with arsenal , but with champions group makes it easier for celtic.still a wee tricky teams but effsborg next then see what happenes
By:
the system they have now is very fair. Champions are awarded and countries rewarded as a hole for performance.Celtics good show last season will see irs rewards next season and so they will go in at last qualifying round i think.
By:
Hopefully you win it and with St johnstone KO'ing Rosenburg Scotland should move up UEFAs rankings and it will be easier to qualify next year
By:
Hoping the saints can get in the groups also and also Celtic need champions league this season at worst 3rd in group and then drop in Europa,But Europa from the start would be a killer
By:
Did Motherwell fail to get a UEFA license or something. Any time I looked at the SPL table last year they were in or around 2nd-3rd
By:
I havent heard anything about them playing in Europe
By:
Motherwell play Kuban Krasnodar.
By:
Thats a harsh draw. Ive never seen them play but id say they more than likely have a rich owner.
By:
Yep, very tough, much richer than Motherwell, but, if St. Johnstone can ko Rosenborg then anything can happen.
Hope they do well, all helps the co-efficient. |
By:
5th in Russia last season , Be very tough over there

Most Scottish teams have no money to spend, so the quality is going to be lacking when most of the promising youngsters head off to warm benches in England for quadruple the wages they'd get for staying and playing in Scotland.
Whatever happened to Chris Maguire? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afOQ9j8lcX4 |
By:
most SPL teams are on the verge of bankruptcy with celtic the only team making any money, and that's only because they can win the league and qualify for the CL every season now that they have got rid of rangers.
By:
You only have to look through the SPL top scorers to see what sort of level it's at.
Michael Higdon - did nothing at Crewe Leigh Griffiths - now at Wolves in league one Billy McKay - 27 goals last season, but prior to that scored 16 in 84 games for league 2 Northampton Niall McGinn - 21 goals last season, but the season before scored 5 in 37 for league one Brentford |
By:
It seems to have regressed so much in a year, since Hearts only lost by the odd goal to Liverpool over two legs. Hibs fans always go on about European "tradition"...

In my post, I meant Barcelona's would-be flood.

Don't know enough about Higdon and McKay's early careers to comment on them.
Griffiths signed for Wolves when they were in the Prem, just been up here on loan. He'll do fine if Wolves actually gave him a game, especially in League 1 - as far as I know he's never played for them. McGinn was known more as a winger than a striker before last season, playing him up front was either a stroke of genius or a lucky gamble that paid off on the part of our manager. Couldn't tell you where he played for Brentford tbf, but I'd imagine he'd have been out on the wing. Sometimes stats can only tell you so much. |
By:
Higdon was very mediocre at Crewe. He always looked like he might make a player of sorts but was a target for the Gresty Road boo boys from very early on in his Alex career. To be honest his main problem was he wasn't either of the players he was trying to replace, Rob Hulse or Dean Ashton.

How good is English football?
By:
Not very, going by today's scores.
Charlton 0 - 1 Inverness Stockport 0 - 1 St. Mirren Wigan 0 - 1 Dundee U. ![]() |

Someone's forgotten how Hearts got absolutely annihilated at home v a pre-season, unfit Spurs side with no interest in the UEFA Cup

Platini, CJ70. Methinks you missed the thrust of my thread. Read the last sentence again.
