"..the economy was growing under labour"
Stick one bar on, I think it's effecting your memory! |

By:
its people like you i cant stand snickers.born with a silver spoon in your mouth were you.its people like you who should lose their jobs and struggle.no doubt thatcher and cameron etc would be proud of you.

By:
shame labour didn't pay for schools and hospitals they built rather than sticking them on dodgy pfi deals where it now costs a fortune to just change a lightbulb.
The economy was only growing in 2008 because they where spunking money in every direction possible. The deficit in 2008 was 180 billion. If you live beyond your means today then by definition you will live below them tomorrow. The tories are useless but they inherited one hell of a mess. As things stand we spend more on welfare than we get in income text. We have a worst deficit in % terms than any other country. We are hurtling to the national debt being 100% of GDP. Things are going to get a lot worse. The funny bit will be in 2015 when labour return and have to actually make serious cuts. |
By:
And no doubt you were born with a silk cut hanging out of yours...
By:
what are you trying to say snickers.working class people are the salt of the earth.all people want is to do a decent days work for a decent days wage, not be ripped off and work for 6 quid an hour by companies who usually pay their directors massive bonuses.i really hope their is a god, because people like you,who don't know what compassion is,may have a few questions to answer
By:
nothing wrong with a bit of compassion but take your hands off my tax payments
By:
The problem is a growing number of people do not want to do an honest days work for an honest days wage. They want to sit and live on hand-outs whilst moaning how tough everything is and how its everybody else's fault they are so feckless.
Both parties have to a degree indulged these attitudes and allowed them to become the norm. However a review of the growth in welfare spending between 1997-2008 will show who is primarily to blame for our current mess. They mortgaged the future to buy votes and then managed to deflect all the blame on the financial services. it is the great deceit of the financial crisis. |
By:
Tory Labour Liberal who gives a shoite they're all the same
By:
I think you might be using the term working class to describe those reliant on welfare handouts. Welfare should be a catch for those who fall on hard times not a lifestyle choice by those who do not want to work to support themselves.
Miggy, if the story above is true you should be celebrating a massive tax cut today. |
By:
the welfare bill is minuscule in the grand scheme of things, if you think that is the reason for 'our current mess' you need to take your head out of the sand. or stop reading the daily mail.
By:
when i say welfare bill i should have said benefit payments such as jsa.
By:
I can't see anyone voting Tory or Labour in the next election.

dont know where you get this about buying votes from snickers.i live on a big council estate in leeds with many singlr mothers and unemployed people living on it.i can assure you that a lot of these people have no interest whatsoever in politics and certainly would not even think of going out and voting.i dont know how old you are,but a lot of this problem was caused by one of your heroines, thatcher.when she was in power,we again had massive dole queues, like we always do under the tories.she fiddled the figures by deliberately encouraging doctors to sign people on to long term sick.i don't know how we are going to solve this problem, but there is nowhere near enough jobs to go round and systematically grinding people down and into poverty is going to cause unrest and problems in this country

During the debt fuelled boom 2000 - 2007 welfare payments rose by 40%

unless you are eastern european. Labour lax immigration policy let them pour into the country. They seemed to find jobs when they got here albeit driving down the cost of labour. |

They seemed to find jobs when they got here albeit driving down the cost of labour. ------------- you've fallen for the oldest trick in the book, when times are good no one really minds the foreigners coming in to do a bit of work but when the ruling class f**k the country up instead of blaming them you blame the pesky foreigners. |
By:
you know as well as i do mighty white that european employment law meant that we couldn't prevent all the east europeans coming.we are going to have the same problem shortly with romanians and bulgarians.employers have deliberately employed and advertised for these people because of their so called work etic, the real reason is to keep wages depressed.cameron is talking tough only now, because he thinks there is votes in it.
By:
We currently have the highest number of people in employment ever.. There are also plenty more jobs available for those willing to look. Plenty of people on here knock the eastern Europeans but they manage to find themselves jobs over here. Just another symptom of the current plight that chavs from this country think they're above working in a hotel, restaurant or factory.
15 years of growth and Labour still managed to create budget deficits. Mr Prudence with his "we've ended boom and bust".. He was certainly half right! |
By:
miggy every other european country except us Ireland and one other put preventions on EU migrants from accession countries.
The UK didn't bother because labour thought there would only be 10,000 or so. Mightymoyes i have no problems with migrants coming here. I'm not the one complaining that there are no jobs or wages havent increased. There is a link between an increase in migrant workers - levels of employment and rates of pay for low skilled numpty jobs. |

What a complete idiot snickers is.
Bottom line is, the the poor are suffering the rich are not, can't dress it up it doesn't work. |
By:
The poor aren't suffering because of the rich.
That is the problem with people like you. You seek equality of outcome rather then striving to achieve equality of opportunities. Your focus is on doing down those who have made a success of themselves whilst making endless excuses for those who have not. |
By:
lol what are you talking about, you got all that from my last post
![]() Do you know what I did in my last job? no thought not. |

Well I assume given your opening post we can rule out political analyst

Speaking as someone who as worked since 16 never signed on and never been out of work for more than 2 weeks. The mass Eastern European invasion into the Warehouse/manufacturing industry is a pi ss take. And for the mongs preparing the comeback of "You dont work as hard" "you dont want to work" etc that is bull.
The wages before the mass influx was around £8.50-£9.00 p/h(2000) you're now lucky if you get £6.50 p/h(2013) I'm in the SOuth East as well by the way(cost of living) and that includes being on night shift. A lot will only pay flat rate for Bank Holidays and Weekends and that is if you're lucky enough to get any overtime. Nobody is asking for big money just a proper wage to live off |
By:
There's an unfeasible amount of chippyness and petty class warriors on this thread, and pinning all the countries woes and problems that developed under Labour on the tories ... it's bizarre. It's like some people live in an alternate universe where they don't care about reading up on any actual facts. I hate the tories so everything I don't like is their fault. Somehow. No don't argue. The rich and that. B*stards and that. Oh and bankers and stuff.
By:
Ideally find a tory of eastern European descent
By:
Just because Labour were sh1te doesn't mean that the Tories can't be worse, does it?
If we're being flippant, we can just say that there are some "I'm alright Jack" types on this thread who hated the last government so much that nothing the latest mob does is seen as being wrong. It's just Gordon Brown. No money. Maxed-out credit cards. And stuff. The erosion of the post-war consensus is the problem, with everyone being sold the pup of 'private good, public bad.' All 3 parties have continued on with the neo-liberal agenda which is why the interests of the rich are served whilst the poor are made to fight against one another; immigrants, benefit claimants, the working poor, the squeezed middle. Pick your demographic, nothing is ever done for the benefit of any of these groups, but they are all poisoned against one another so as to never challenge the real problem group of society -- a nationless, super-rich elite who flit about the globe, lobbying politicians of all colours to bend to their will and making 99% of people pay for their lavish, incomprehensibly rich and luxurious existence. |
By:
BTW as this has turned into a politics thread. Margaret Thatcher has just been reelected as PM on BBC Parliament.
By:
it's not about class wars, it's about simple fairness, people who can't find a job should be allowed to get by on the living wage via benefits until they find a job, the cuts don't allow for that, people that pay for unemployed people via taxes might need the help themselves one day.
I do have to admit I find it funny there are almost a million people who have suddenly decided they are not incapacitated to work, credit were credit is due, but overall still a scummy party. |
By:
A contributory social insurance scheme as envisaged by Beveridge, relies on the basic assumption that people will want to work. That is no longer the case as politicians have allowed benefits to become something far more then a safety net, they are now a lifestyle option.
As soon as anybody tries to do anything about it no matter how peripheral (as now) the media and vested interests whip a massive storm, politicians lose their nerve and the gravy train rumbles on. |
By:
Exactly snickers
By:
"All 3 parties have continued on with the neo-liberal agenda"
I love how left wingers love to throw that at the earliest opportunity in to try to appear "smart" :) So .. public spending didn't shoot up massively under Labour yes/no? Yes it did it increased massively - fact. How very "right wing" of them... |
