Hang on a minute.

Some wanting to take 7/4 over 13/8 is as bad as some filth claiming tens of thousands of pounds in benefits?

Am i reading that correctly?

Make your mind up Rick it was the bankers 5 minutes ago...

Is it possible that any of these benefit claimants have any personal culpability?

"The people you should be blaming are the useless ruling classes that failed to create an economy, an education system" ..

Do you reckon your average career benefit claimant stuck in and gave it 100% at school and unfortunately fell short, or didn't give a sh*t as Labour had told them the world owes them a living and nothing is ever their responsibility?

Judorick, before the crash you do realise Lloyds and RBS were private companies don't you?!!

yeah, that's what we all thought. but then when they went belly up, it turned out they weren't and we were all on the hook.

How much tax has the financial sector paid in the last 20 years? Any thoughts?

The answer is of course 100s of billions and Blair and Brown knew it (and spent it)

But hey, let's keep bashing the bankers shall we? Cos that's easy (and cowardly).

its really up to those **** s to create jobs which actually make it worthwhile to go out and work, of course people will stay, if they can, on benefots if theyre worse off when in work, same goes for housing, try building more instead of lying about people needing spare rooms, theyre robbing the poor, as they always have, to bolster a failing economy, people such as myself practially living off tax cred, not for kids either i hasten to add, being forced to pay up for one extra bedroom, while all the priveleged who really decide whats happening in this world ie bankers, masons, elite etc. look down their noses with a sneer fromt he windows of their mansions..tory ****

Why would people stay on hand outs if they're worse off in work?

Not sure I get that. What happened to a sense of self worth and personal responsibility?

yeah, except that tax was a percentage of the parasitic earnings they never deserved in the first place. by your logic if they'd paid themselves twice as much to feck up the economy, they'd have contributed even more, so we should be twice as grateful.

wild guess: you "work" in the financial sector.

Er, no I don't.

Do you want business to be successful or not? And if you do, how successful are they allowed to be?

Gordy loved the City cos it paid for his spending. Check out His Mansion House speech just prior to the crash.

Labour admit the Financial Sector contributed £50bn in tax, directly and indirectly in 2011. That's not bad when the whole sector was supposedly on its knees...

I wonder how much more we'd all have to pay in tax if the contribution from the financial sector was removed tommorow?

I'd think the answer is "lots".

THe politicians slipped us all a neat trick blaming the bankers (an easy target noting resentment at the sector) when it was really the politicians failure to address the issues within banking and their own readiness to prostitute themselves for personal gain or electoral benefit playing a  pyramid game of tax and spendthrift ways.

End of the day, and this is hard to argue with given the cold hard figures, even when we were in the "good times" Labour didn't even pay down our debt, it was more fun buying votes with freebies..

in what way were they "successful" exactly? they created a mirage boom juggling pretend money, crashed the economy and got to keep the massive amounts they paid themselves for doing so in real money, then came back for more from the public purse.

total absence of shame or basic decency.

Too true Treetop.

We had/have a lopsided economy, heavily dependent on the financial sector. It was madness.

Politicians pumped endless air into the credit bubble and couldn't see that at some point it would go pop.

So the banks didn't make any money?

The certainly made plenty from me!!

As for asking the Govt to bail them out, we had little choice due to their importance in our lopsided economy.

Don't forget, thousands in the financial sector lost their jobs....

what wealth did they create? they juggled massively overinflated assets and invented incredibly convoluted derivatives to disguise the fact. all the time relying on what would have been a massively expensive insurance policy if they'd had to pay for it.

the result was a boom which has more than reversed itself; yet they haven't handed back a penny of the billions in performance related bonuses they paid themselves while it was happening.

anyone in the city who was making 100K+ who lost their job, GOOD.

Need to go back a lot further than that sj when it all started, try the early 60s most menial jobs were done by the Irish or West Indian/Asian folk and when I say menial I mean Cleaning, labouring, pot washing ect.
By:

When: 01 Apr 13 22:21
And given the choice of having nothing or working in the 60's you're saying the white british chaps turned those jobs down then as well? Good work mate you keep telling yourself that.
Not going to agree so its pointless carrying on. I beilive the majority of British people work hard in whatever job sector they're in hence why the country has always done well. Because the majority have a very good work ethic.
The people from the countries you go on about arent exactly front running nations now are they? Id these Eastern European folk work so hard why are their countries so far behind with this supposed great work ethic?
That will be my last on the subject its just cheap point scoring, and I've got to be up at 5:30 tomorrow not all the British ring in sick who work a manual labour job, contary to what you think

Of course it's the benefit culture, in the 80s 90s it was all about getting that sick note and getting disability benefit, there were no checks made,Doctors notes were the final say.Now folk have to prove they are genuinely sick (a lot are) and a lot have been using and abusing the system, why should someone who has a self inflicted drink or drug problem be better off on benefits ( giving them more money for drugs and drink is the answer?) than a person going to work. It's not just them,Doctors gave out sick notes like confetti for a host of minor ailments and a large section of Britain cotton on to the fact that it was easy money for sitting on your aRse.

I'm sorry if it looks like I'm picking on you, I'm not. It's just one of the main thing that infuriates me about British politics.

You obviously don't understand the issue and are unable to accept that it's a Labour party policy that is being widened to include everybody. It's boo-ha well done Labour when they enact it and, boo Coalition are evil when they encompass everybody into the same policy.

It's the same thing with the 10p tax. I can imagine you cheering as Labour double the tax rate on the poor as 'clever Gordon'. Then shouting evil Coalition as they wipe out most of the tax liability of the poorest earners in society.

It's an attitude that prevails because of a poor upbringing and prejudice aligned with the inability to think for oneself. You claim you don't follow soundbites, but every post in this thread relates to class war soundbites which emanate from one party.
