The provision of service outlines that you're able to match bets.

The fact you've "lost" your bets, implies that you were able to match your bets.

Betfair loses money whilst there is a service outage, ie: it's not within their interests for there to be one.  Therefore, it acts to guard against any such instances.  But it isn't without flaw; indeed show me a 'service' which is.

The "trading" argument is a non-starter.  Betfair doesn't provide that service, neither does it guarantee you'll be reimbursed should you be unable to 'trade' a position.  So, I'm not sure where some of you are getting this nonsensical idea from that you are?

Albert, do you by any chance work for Betfair and are worried about redundancy if more people start to leave betfair.

People don't leave Betfair.  It's because there isn't a viable alternative.

All your accounts will remain live and will be deposited into - even after the melodramatic 'that's it, I'm leaving' bluster.

If some want to take positions, go ahead - but it's not Betfair's fault if you can't adjust your position.  To suggest liability sits with Betfair is utterly laughable; is Betfair seriously supposed to guess what decisions its customers make?

Please enlighten me as to whose fault it is then if Betfair's site goes down? Is it my fault? Is it your fault?

888 poker has it right, at least they offer money for free entry to a freeroll and email all it's members to apologise for any problems.  I used to play on Betfair poker for severl years and lost lots of money when the site went down.  I guess that was my fault and not betfair poker's.

it's only viable if the liquidity improves but it won't because betfair offers a better service to average joe punter who isn't likely to be affected by the PC therefore has no major reason to switch.

The site is not just for traders ffs.
Some traders incidentally will have won more than they would if the site hadn't gone down.

every thing albert has said, of a factual nature, is absolutely correct. all in order.  but it's very clear that he is enjoying himself mightily too.  perhaps he's a bit 'special'?

If the Betfair site goes down, then the fault for that lies with Betfair.

But it isn't Betfair's fault, or indeed responsibility, if you chose to interact with the site in a 'trading' fashion; that is your responsibility, and you place your bets accordingly.  If your bets are matched, and subsequently settled then Betfair have delivered its service agreement to you.

To veer away from that - to 'void' - would be to act in difference to the service agreement.  It's very, very simple guys: Betfair isn't there, and nor does it guarantee, that it'll always be available.  If some of you decide to 'trade' under that false belief, then more fool you.

Look at the feedback comments: many saying 'this isn't unusual for Betfair ... getting more frequent this ... stupid site' (etc...)  If it's so unstable, then why are you placing so much faith in it, by using it as a trading platform?

Accept your losses, because you really DON'T have an argument here.

Einstein is the type of person who puts chewing gum on a bus seat then moves seats and watches someone sit on it. Then when they complain to the driver, he walks up to them and says they should have looked at the seat before they sat down. Then walks back to his seat, smirking to himself, and sits down, only to find that the kid in the seat behind has put some chewing gum on his seat. Laugh

@einstein the reason we are all on this site its because we can make bets online..i've had enough of this since its not the first time it happens. Bwin is giving me free bets to try to get me back in there and i think i will accept their offer.

hmmmm....Betfair is heavily advertising their Cashout Facility in the UK on TV. Thus promoting it as a trading platform. They are not providing the service they are advertising. Compensation is due.

how exactly do you expect them to hand out compensation in this situation?

you wont get a penny, all bets till the site crash have to be honoured, traders with open bets were just unlucky, thats why it pays to have other sites to bet on

Firstly, they should accept there was a problem and morally not take any commission, secondly, they should have voided all in play bets as it was not a fair 90 min market.  If matches get stopped before 90 mins, why do they void bets then.  Betfair don't even acknowledge to their customers they had a problem.

look, betfiar advertises itself as trading platform even teaches you how to "trade" etc, so as a provider who taking cares for someone else money for periods of time SHOULD HAVE some standarts
but as i said nobody cares about gamblers , losers are always at the rock bottom of the life pyramid , if they would provide this service to some rich class it would be different but its not the case so who cares

I think they should use commission to compensate those who can prove that their trading position was worsened by any outage.

I'm sorry but there's a load of people that would've placed winning bets long before the system crashed tonight who would strongly disagree with you here.

Loss of service. Simples. If they do not wish to void bets due to a significant outage then the liability lies with Betfair. Not with me. I am on here to trade using the Geeks. The site went t1ts up seconds after the Liverpool market became unsuspended. Probably due to the amount of people laying off Liverpool because you cant trust them to hold a lead :)

vips i take it you won then, what void all bets across all the games no chance, give it up tomorrow will be another day and hopefully not another site crash, they cant possibly void everything
By:

yeh but as someone said earlier it is your responsibility if you place a bet knowing that betfair might not be in a position to allow you to trade out. You cannot turn round at the end of it and whinge about losing when you knew this could happen. If you're a trader you should have accounts with other sites anyway and avoid the situation.

agree maestro,99% of the time the site is fine,i dont bet on soccer much mainly horse racing and defo dont trade, but i will bet there is as many losers as winners tonight
By:

When: 22 Nov 12 23:22
Maestro, if Betfair might not be in a position to allow you to trade out (which is the same thing as placing a bet), then maybe they shouldn't actually claim to be a betting site.  Or they should actually state when people sign up that there is a 1% chance that they might not be able to bet on the site due to 1 % of technical problems.
By:
Biscuit1979
When: 22 Nov 12 23:23
Betfair have never voided before because of an outage and they're not about to start now. And neither would it be possible because of the people who had winning bets placed in good faith.

However that doesn't make it right. Essentially the rules appear to be, the customer places a bet but if the site goes down then the customer could lose out through no fault of their own. In what other line of business would the customer be so easily stitched up?

from the TOC you all agreed (but likelly didn't read) when creating an account:"Please be aware that if you place a bet with the intention of subsequently placing a separate bet to reduce the liability incurred by the initial bet, there can never be a guarantee that the Services will be available at the point you wish to place the subsequent bet (this is the case regardless of whether or not the unavailability of the Services is due to a matter beyond our reasonable control)."

Agree Maestro, I learned the hard way years ago - set-up alternative accounts one PP the other on Betd@q - this happens from time to time.

Serious traders, need back-ups - for betting, internet access, hardware/software - tools of the trade.
