I notice that almost the second after Wickham has tapped the ball into the net and jogged away, not even looking at the fans and before Rose has got anywhere close to them, objects come flying past him from the crowd. Perhaps that's Rose's fault too.

Freddiek no but it doesn't give players the right to go over and incite the crowd which is what Rose did,he then lost his temper got himself sent off and further incited the crowd on his way to the sideline. That this behaviour is deemed acceptable here is a surprise, all players should be able to control himself.
Stringer definitions of race vary and England has wide definitions to sate the race relations industry,Irish travellers are given special status there that they can't even get in Ireland.

In a statement on their website, the Serbian FA said: "(The) FA of Serbia absolutely refuses (sic) and denies that there were any occurrences of racism before and during the match at the stadium in Krusevac.

"Making connection between the seen incident - a fight between members of the two teams - and racism has absolutely no ground and we consider it to be a total malevolence."

Serbia v England, 2007 Under-21 European Championship

Serbian fans' monkey chanting of England's Nedum Onuoha was so obvious that the stadium announcer in Nijmegen appealed for them to stop. After Matt Derbyshire struck a late goal to make it 2-0 to England, Serbian players, who believed play should have been stopped due to an injury to Slobodan Rajkovic, reacted angrily and much aggressive jostling ensued. The acrimony continued after the final whistle, and it was alleged that England's Justin Hoyte was racially abused in the tunnel by opponents.
Punishment The Serbia FA was fined £16,000 for "the racist chanting of supporters and the improper conduct of their players". England were fined £2,000 for taking part in the brawl. After Serbia went on to reach the final, Uefa ordered the referee to stop the match if there was any repeat of racist chanting.

Serbia v Wales, and Serbia Under-21 v Wales Under-21, August 2003

Danny Gabbidon, Nathan Blake and Robert Earnshaw were abused during Wales's Euro 2004 qualifier against Serbia and Montenegro in Belgrade. "It was disappointing to hear what the lads had to contend with," Wales's then-manager Mark Hughes said. "Whether it was the whole stadium or just a minority is not the point. It's wrong in any form and just not acceptable." During the previous night's Under-21 contest between the same countries in Novi Sad, the Wales goalkeeper Jason Brown was targeted for similar abuse. "It's sad in this day and age, and it disappoints me that it can happen," Brown said afterwards. "I will have to consider whether I ask the FAW to complain on my behalf." The FAW did file a formal complaint.
Punishment The FA of Serbia & Montenegro was fined £11,000 for "the racist conduct of its supporters".

So just to clarify, wildman still hasn't replied to Biscuit?

As this was one of the few cohesive arguments challenging his views (which for arguments sake, I oppose), I find this very interesting.

I obviously stand corrected if I have merely missed the response.

Rio Ferdinand has expressed concern over the reaction to the events of last night's England under-21 match in Serbia in light of recent problems in the Premier League.

Serbian fans are accused of making racial taunts at England players, including Danny Rose, during last night's Euro 2013 qualification match.

Among those to have condemned the scenes is David Cameron, whose spokesman said the Prime Minister was "appalled" at what he had seen.

Ferdinand took to Twitter following the statement from the government.

"Has our prime minister just spoken on this U21 saga? Get our own house in order 1st on this issue b4 we start taking the moral high ground," wrote the Manchester United defender.

The comment would appear to indicate Ferdinand thinks there is work to be done in England to counter racism, particularly in light of the John Terry trial, in which the Chelsea captain was found guilty by the FA of using racist language to abuse Rio's brother Anton.

Terry was found to have used the words "black c**t" towards the QPR defender at a Premier League game at Loftus Road during October last year.

Terry was fined £220,000 and banned for four matches - a punishment many found derisory considering Luis Suarez' eight-match ban for abusing Patrice Evra.

Ferdinand's manager Sir Alex Ferguson said following the Terry verdict: "The fact he (Terry) got a four-game ban, he may consider that is quite lenient considering Luis Suarez got eight."

It has also been pointed out that fans would face life-time bans if found guilty of using racist language on the terraces.

The Prime Minister, along with Sports Minister Hugh Robertson and Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle have called for Serbia to be severely punished.

The Serbian FA deny any racial abuse occurred during the match.

Rio is such dickhead, comparing last nights incident to what happened on the pitch recently in the epl. He owes danny rose an apology.

theres something very weird going on in the use of language in football :  for some years this word has been getting used more and more.

Biscuit1979 asks what I mean by the get out of jail card and was their racist chanting.
When England scored they charged over to the Serbian fans gesturing and gesticulating, that was wrong, the worst offender was Danny Rose who lost control and got himself sent off,he them exacerbated the situation by further gestures whilst walking to the sideline.
The English FA then to deflect from their players disgraceful behaviour played the get out of jail card,we are entitled to do what we like because we were racially abused,if the English players exacted some physical retribution the same defence would be used.
I was asked what team I support and it's Reading,a Reading team that were known as the biscuit men not the Royals I am hopeful that Biscuit1979 might be a fellow Reading supporter.

"gesturing and gesticulating"

"players disgraceful behaviour"

1) Please state exactly what "gesturing and gesticulating" you think the player's were guilty of as I have seen the clip numerous times and am interested to hear what you are accusing the individuals involved of.

2) With regards to your comment of "players disgraceful behaviour", your hyperbolic description of events needs seriously moderating (in my opinion).

Celebrating a goal and a victory, nothing more.

Football fans dish it out but get a fit of the vapours if someone sticks it back at them (and no I'm not talking Cantona attacking a man in the crowd, which was a wholly different issue)

An open letter to Michel Platini from Paul Hayward, journalist at the Telegraph and a view I happen to share...

Dear Monsieur Platini

Here come the English again with their outrage, their righteousness. Is that what you think? Even as the reports of revolting racial abuse pour in to your HQ beside Lake Geneva, are you rolling your eyes and marvelling at the mother country’s inability to see that John Terry’s treatment of Anton Ferdinand places her in no position to be lecturing the rest of Europe?

Or perhaps, among your staff, you are reciting the mantra of trickle-down tolerance, of nations acquiring racial harmony at different speeds. We know that you and Fifa’s Sepp Blatter, who thinks racist insults between players can be settled later with a “handshake”, believe football is a civilising force. By magic, the xenophobes and bigots will ingest the Uefa’s unifying rhetoric and stop their monkey chants.

But we bring bad news, Mr President. It’s not happening. England’s Under-21 game in Serbia on Tuesday night was not a football match at all. It strayed as close to any recent game has come to a lynching.

Danny Rose, a young Englishman who summoned the courage to stand up to a racist mob, was subjected to a sustained attempt to strip him of his humanity, before, during and after the game. The aim of parts of the Serbian crowd was to relegate him to the animal kingdom, to destroy his dignity and render him incapable of playing the game whose values you are entrusted to uphold.

Or consider the case of Bolton’s Marvin Sordell, another black England Under-21. At Millwall on Oct 6, Sordell reported racial abuse by some home fans. His reward was to be depicted on Facebook with a gun pointed at his head and blood splattered across his shirt. In Krusevac, Sordell was among black England players who were abused and attacked under your jurisdiction, beneath Uefa’s banner of “respect”.

A good short exercise would be to close your eyes and imagine how Sordell feels today. Racially abused in London on club duty, he claims, and racially abused on national service in Serbia, which must have been terrifying, given the general lawlessness around the ground. He could have no faith in Serbian officials or the police to protect him. Like Rose, and the whole England party, he was abandoned. He was betrayed.

In Uefa’s ‘11 values’, you say: “Respect is a key principle of football.

“Respect for the game, integrity, diversity, dignity, players’ health, rules, the referee, opponents and supporters. Our message is clear: zero tolerance against racism, violence and doping. Football unites people and transcends differences. The colour of the skin is invisible under the jersey and, for Uefa, this will always be so. Racism and any other forms of discrimination will never be tolerated. Uefa will not tolerate violence either on the pitch or in the stands. Football must set an example.”

In 2007, England Under-21s were racially abused in a game against Serbia. You fined the Serbian FA £16,500. Here are some of the other risible penalties you have meted out for similar offences: Slovakia (2002), £18,000; Macedonia (2003), £16,500. Croatia (2008) £10,000. Bulgaria (2011) £34,230.

There is no need to go on, except to remind you that Denmark’s Nicklas Bendtner was fined £80,000 for pulling down his shorts to reveal a bookmaker advert at Euro 2012. And Manchester City were hit for £24,740 for delaying the start of a Europa League second-half.

You must see the anomalies here. Surely you must understand why non-racist football fans regard you as supine, indifferent, detached and – finally – complicit in these crimes. Why complicit? Because powder-puff fines are a direct encouragement to monkey chanters and racist bawlers. The perpetrators know their national federations will not suffer beyond a minor financial reprimand.

“Two stones hit me in the head when I went to get the ball for a throw-in and whenever I touched the ball there was monkey chanting,” Rose said.

“After 60 minutes my mind wasn’t really on the game, I was just so angry. It was just so hard to concentrate and I could have cost the lads the game because I made a few mistakes through not concentrating. My mind wasn’t on the game.”

Are you willing to tolerate this? Do you really believe enlightenment is on the march in European football? This is not a uniquely eastern scourge. At Euro 2012, racial abuse was recorded at Spain v Italy as well as Russia v Czech Republic. As we know, a former England captain has been suspended and fined by the FA for using racist language against a fellow Premier League pro. England’s Under-21 coach and senior team caretaker, Stuart Pearce, admits (and regrets) racially abusing Paul Ince back in their playing days.

So this is not about English piety or Uefa politics. It is about a generation of black footballers being told by bigots they are outside the human family. It is the world of the 1930s. The current trial of the Bosnian Serb warlord Radovan Karadzic alone should alert you to the dangers of passivity in the face of organised ethnic hatred.

With your leniency and bureaucratic obfuscations you are refusing to fight this necessary war. Officials in countries where racism is widely expressed are laughing at you and fans across the continent think you are failing in your duty of care.

Federations will act only when they have something big to lose. Points deductions and suspensions from competitions are now unavoidable.

Just read what Danny Rose had to go through at work on Tuesday night, and then work out which side you are on.
