I would say that no band has had more influence on British Rock/Pop than the Kinks. It's incredible to read how many singer/songwriter/bands cite them as a major influence.

Oasis even filmed a video in homage to 'Dead End Street'. There would have been no Oasis without the Kinks.

Well Ray Davies wrote his own songs. Something that rarely happens now ! And Waterloo sunset is a lovely song !

Stones for me too. The Americans always wished they could have produced a band like them. Creedence were great songwriters,Allman Brothers great musicians - The Stones had both

Creedence Clear Water were/are great. And John Fogerty has a really good earthy honest voice and they too wrote there own songs !
I think The Rolling Stones are better than the Beatles just because of the spirit the band has and the amount (400 songs) they have wrote is quite astonishing. |

The Band were great and musically sound. And of course Van Morrison's "Caravan" (although not part of The Band) is probably one of the greatest performances ever !

 Tbh nobody can say who is was the best it's all about oppinion, but tbh I've often been a little disappointed with rock bands on stage, always loves U2 but live it was just them performing their songs, nothing surprised me. Best live shows, take that do a great show has do Katy perry, lady gaga and beyonce but off all the concerts I've been to nothing comes close to the performance of Michael Jackson |

Rory Gallagher - excellent shout. Saw Rory and the boys about 30 times - unbeatable live. Other great bands from that era Grateful Dead, Little Feat, Doobie Bros.

America has produced some good bands, but none as great as any of these (in my opinion]. America does iconic solo artist better though, Elvis, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Madonna etc. Britain only has David Bowie. |

Elvis untouchable as the greatest performer.
The doors were the best band for me. They don't have a massive repertoire of songs but their quality of musicianship and creativity put them a level up, imo. |
