Why the hell does every one of this sort of thread I've clicked on seem to end up discussing the merits of oasis?
Pretty much every other band mentioned on this thread is better than them, which isn't exactly difficult to achieve. To put the beatles or the who or ac/dc or u2 in even the same league as those muppets is an insult to music. |

Only ones

Think of very single person in England and that still wouldn't cover how many records they've sold, not bad for an average band.
|
|
By:
people who say oasis just dont have a wide enough knowledge of music. they are easily the most overrated whiny tw@ty bunch of pop rock monkeys the world has ever seen.
|
|
By:
Another very sensible reply.

i dont think record sales mean alot as lets face it, most people are sheep. they follow bands and like their songs because their friends do and the radio plays it alot. the smaller percentage of people who have a personality see past this and like better bands. truth hurts

|
By:
spice girls have sold a similar amount
|
|
By:
Typical know it all clown that this forum is filled with.
If you like Oasis you don't have a personality or any musical knowledge. Ive been watching bands for 20 years and people like you always make me laugh ![]() |
|
By:
Sorry, but anyone who produces stats to prove how good a band are is clearly on very thin ice.
By that logic Westlife are better than Stone Roses... |
|
By:
Terrible logic. Did west life play instruments? did they write there own songs?
Exactly, next |

Best Band- Oasis, Dear God ....Best Meal? Chicken McNuggets?

anyone who's only been watching bands since 1992 is hardly in a position to make a comment on a genre of music which has been around for about 60 years.
You cannot compare modern record sales and concert attendances with those of the early days when bands didn't have the benefit of huge marketing and advertising budgets of the record companies and even hugely popular bands would only be playing in town halls and dance halls. Mention of the Spice Girls is actually relevant here as an example of how with sufficient hype and publicity a modern band can be seen as far better and important than they really are. |
|
By:
I agree, i was only using that example as someone said Oasis were average. How can an average band break every record going. If you don't like Oasis fair enough. It would be boring if everyone liked the same music but average they are certainly not.
Me personally, top 5. Oasis The Clash The Rolling Stones The Libertines Arctic monkeys Cue p!sstaking |
|
By:
you've redeemed yourself a bit with the clash

|

I like all sorts of music. Anyway I'm off
|
|
By:
You can reel off the stats, but in the end its all down to taste. Its like saying which is the best colour.

|
By:
The Clash have just released a new album specially for U Want Some. Lets see how "Taste Calling" does in the charts

As evidence of the folly of comparing bands or artists by record sales Rihanna has sold more UK singles than the Rolling Stones according to BBC site this morning.

Can't have oasis me
Not very rock n roll brothers in wigs |
|
By:
For me it's Queen.
We used to have these who's the best conversations in the pub and it always got heated until we agreed that although fun they were utterly pointless as people just keep choosing their favorites. It's human Nature to do so. |
|
By:
the obvious and correct answer is The Rolling Stones.
Their music has stood the test of time Its safe to say they are the greatest rock n roll band ever. |
|
By:
It has to be The Beatles, they crossed all boundaries, nationality, race, creed, age group. Every new generation are into The Beatles and it looks like it will never end - hundreds of years from now they will still be listening to Beatles music.
