Is it? Source?
300/1 on betfair - possibly worth a few pound although sounds unlikely as surely the price would have gone already? |
By:
i thought martinez was their preferred choice anyway...
thats what the sunday supplement boys were saying a week ago sunday, and kenny hadnt been sacked by then |
By:
The Sunday Supplement crew? Haha what do they know? Henry Winter, Paddy barclay, Brian Woolnough - they're all just attention seakers desperate for people to talk about them. Wouldn't listen to a word they say.
That Barclay is the worst of the lot - there is a reason he got sacked by The Times - cos he's useless. |

i dont think they have got a clue have they.....running around like headless chickens

i think it will be Martinez. AVB is just too much of a gamble given the stories that have come out from Chelsea, his man management skills appear to have been terrible, and thats a pretty important aspect of the job in the PL.
By:
AVB could do a great job at any top club IF he gets the full support of the owner
By:
you also need the full support of the players if you can't get that your stuffed from the start. I do think the players would less of a problem than they were at Chelsea but its a huge risk. If the owners had £100 million plus to spend so he could bring in 4 or 5 of his players then maybe, but he's probably going to have to work with a lot of the current squad and i wonder if he can do it without alienting too many players.
By:
Is Rijkard a definate no no?
By:
you have to be careful about judging avb's man management skills on hearsay, we have only heard one side of the story. i agree with you that it's very important to bring in your own players to a club.

Its a German guy
By:
yeah judging by south africa the ultimate power player crusher couldnt coe with the likes of tewwy and co.
anyone who thinks they are bigger than a club should be booted out imo |

I don't think they'll get anybody until the Chelsea job has been filled properly. Think about it. Any top, and I mean top manager who is remotely available will want to see what happens at Chelsea before going for a mid table average club that isn't even playing in Europe next season. Can somebody please tell me why a top manager would want to even be considered for LFC when there might be a job going at Chelsea? If Di Matteo is not given anything more than a 12 month deal, then he knows how that is going to pan out. Would he then go to LFC? A run of bad results like he experienced at West Brom would be the end of him. Does the fact that he is now a Champions League winning manager make him any more credible than Martinez? Well guess what, he was crap in the prem for West Brom. So much so that they sacked him and replaced him with a better manager. Roy Hodgson. Whoops. Martinez hasn't been sacked and Wigan don't want to lose him. Forget the past. It is just that. Past. LFC need a rebuild. I was laughed at last week when I suggested that nobody wanted the LFC job. Since then they've been knocked back twice by good managers. My guess is there'll be double figures before the season starts. Somehow I just can't see AVB being able to deal with Gerrard and Carragher any better than he did with Terry and Lampard. Also, I think he fell on his feet at Porto. The dilemma is that the fans want what they can't have and they don't want what they can get. A few weeks of disappointing comings and goings will soon have everybody wanting Kenny back.
It's a bit like a really ugly bloke wanting to get off with a number of good looking women. He gets knocked back a few times. He might get lucky if he finds a pissed one but unless he lowers his sights a bit then he's going home to bed alone. So, what are we left with. These are the options in my opinion. 1. Player manager, Stevie G, Carragher. 2. Ex player dug up from somewhere. 3. Up and coming guy. (usual suspects but not now rogers). 4. Ex manager with LFC connections. Souness? Keegan? 5. Foreign guy who doesn't/can't read the papers. 6. Promotion from within. ( no idea who). 7. Rijkard. Good fit. Can produce lots of flem on demand. Ask Voller. 8. Ian Holloway. All IMHO. |

Michael Laudrup has said he wants the job, a good fit for the club and prob the owners, although not winning anything as a coach had a successful playing career and has a good name in the game, likes to play the game right, currently available and seeking employment.

21 May 12 20:03 Michael Laudrup ............ currently available and seeking employment. well the first part will help him feel at home in liverpool, not so sure about the second part. |
By:
There is only one man that fits the bill.
Scouser and past plyer... And more importantly fits the bill as regards working over the last few years - has done the odd afternoon cash in hand... Bring back Phil Thompson.... |
By:
why is alan pardew so high. i have bought a large sum. would love to see him shortening. i hope one of the tabloids get some news on him
By:
I'm sure they have plenty, but it's a bit 'Max Mosley'
By:
Villas Boas seems like the obvious choice. Liverpool fans raged with the thought of Martinez and I'm guessing they won't be open to another similar type ie. Rodgers.
I'm sure there are good candidates willing to come but under the new setup and what is sure to be a ridiculous interview process you can see this ending up like a Terry Connor situation. If this process gets botched and drags on I'm sure they'll turn to Benitez to save their ass. |
By:
Still think it will be Rafa myself.
By:
We all know that Villa Boas had problems at Chelsea but at previous clubs there seemed no problem. Terry et all have fallen out with a few managers to be fair.
It seems it was his mandate at Chelsea to get these players out & that was the reason of the lenghty contract. I can see similar problems at Liverpool although the more I think of it, it's just Gerrard tha needs to be edged out over time. |
By:
carragher is a big worry also imo, should gracefully retire
By:
I think Carragher himself realises his time is up-particularly based on him after the Carling Cup. He could actually learn a bit from a manager now as I think that's the career route he hopes to take.
By:
if they go for avb they do have to realise half the side isnt an "avb" type of player.
they are gonna need replacing. fine if they will stump up some cash but im not sure they will put enough into a project. best option is to get a manager who has a tacical brain to ballance out the weaknesses in some of our players with not too much of a change to the squad. rafa fits the bill so does simeone. if they get an inexperienced one they are asking for trouble. |
By:
I actually Think AVB's style of football would suit the setup that Liverpool currently have.
The main advantage that Boas will have is that He will never have to manage John "I run the show" Terry ever again. Carragher is on the way out, and Gerrard is not fit enough to have too much influence on a manager anymore. |
By:
I agree AVB is the right fit. Forget what happened at Chelsea he was on a hiding to nothing. He won a treble with Porto, obviously no mug.
Forget Rafa they've already had a blast from the past with Queen Kenny...the owners won't go down that road again ...won't happen. For amusement purposes I hope it's Martinez. RAWK would be comedy. |

i still cant have martinez as fav. managing to just finish ahead of wolves and blackburn is hardly awe inspiring. Its not as if he got wigan anywhere near the top half of the table, which would have been slightly more impressive.
By:
I suppose he did at least keep Wigan up (when they looked certs to go down with a few games left) with some impressive results, especially against some of the big boys (including Liverpool which seems to have not gone unnoticed with owners)
By:
Geniunely don't get the fuss over Martinez. Yes they played brilliantly at the end of the season but does that hide the fact that for the first 5-6 months they were f*cking dreadful.
If Wigan's season had gone the other way round and started like a train but ended pathetically, he'd be looking at the sack. Does your side really only need to play well for 2-3 months to get you considered for a top job? |
