I fancy Chelski might take a lead to the second leg and shut out Barca, as Madrid have done, nothing is ever as it seems and it is football, anything can happen the REf, the Linesmen, the umpires behind the goal who usually see nuttin, but might have a bet on this, 11 v 11 on the day, remember gooners last night, Chelski could slip this crowd

I can see the sense in laying Barca, but I can't see it paying out, I don't think Chelsea have what it takes to deal with them given their current team of players... they just dont have the flexibility to change their game mode enough to deal with these guys of Barca..imo

This is the worst Chelsea side in years taking on a Barca side which is maybe not quite as good as last years, but a huge chasm between the two exists, nonetheless. Chelsea will get ran ragged, and Barc HT/FT is a banker IMO. Any talk of Chelsea taking a lead to Spain is complete fcking madness. Utter lunacy.

Barca simply wont be able to help themselves from winning. They wont have faced many poorer sides than Chelsea all season.

Guys can anybody please point out how AC Milan managed to do so well against Barcelona - it's the only fact we have at the moment and I am struggling to see why everyone thinks we will get a pasting.  AC Milan had an old team playing - NO YOUNG PLAYERS and they are not full of International talent.
Petr Cech - Czech Republic
Luiz, Ramires - Brazil
Essien - Ghana
Bosingwa, Meireles - Portugal
Frank, Terry, Cole, Sturridge, Cahill - England
Mata, Torres - Spain
Drogba, Kalou - Ivory Coast

Left out a couple, but 5 English internationals, 2 Brazilians (Luiz injured though Cry), a Ghanaian, couple of Spaniards and pinched a couple from the All-Star team of Africa the mighty Cote d'Ivoire.  I reckon there are poorer sides out there.

Last 12 matches W9 D2 L1 - Draws to Fulham from a late equaliser, and Tottenham which was a dull affair and maybe lucky that Tottenham didn't score in the 2 minutes before HT.  Loss against City away, awful penalty conceded by Essien (Barcelona got let off a similar incident in 2009)

Beware of Barcelona's star man Felix Brych.  He doesn't like the English and is a good friend of Ovrebo.

i think barca would win the second leg 4-0 if they lose the first 3-0.

but i looked at this match thinking barca would be about 2.2, 1.74 looks a poor price. trouble is i dont like losing, and barca could easily end up winning the game. the poor house is full of people who bet on value bets that lose. i know no bets are 100% safe, but laying barca against anybody is fraught with danger. if i had to get involved i'd have to lay them, but i'll probably stay away from the game altogether.

People just get carried away with the name Barcelona. If anyone has watched them in la liga look how many times they have struggled to win games away from home. Sat night just beating Levante 2-1
Drawn a few games in la liga to teams alot worse than Chelsea recently
Osasuna     3-2     Barcelona
Valencia     1-1     Barcelona
Villarreal     0-0     Barcelona
Espanyol     1-1     Barcelona

Messi also looks short to score in the game. Surely if Chelsea just man mark him all the time he won't have much of a chance. Th reason he scores so many goals in Spain is because teams are so open. He would never score 40 plus goals in the prem

Messi would cause mayhem in the prem. Prem defences would be unable to cope with him. The man marking stuff is rubbish - that has been tried many times - he will slip his marker at will.

No sh1t sherlock!Confused
I would consider Chelsea to be better than all teams in the Spanish league bar Barça, Madrid, and maybe Bilbao (on a very good day). You cant expect Barça to win EVERY SINGLE GAME except against Madrid (which they won), surely?

A lot of MUG theories on this forum as of present, dole day couldnt come soon enough for most of you.

Barça played a poor game in the first leg, plus got extra stung by a goal that was miles offside.
Chelsea dont have the defensive strength that Inter had back then, nor the defensive discipline Mourinho gave them.

Exactly, It would be unfair to say Di Matteo is doing a bad job, because he isnt... But he is not a long run manager for Chelsea, nor is he a top class strategist like Guardiola or Mourinho.

Despite my drivel yesterday where I tried to make a case out for Chelsea... the more I realise they have a herculean task on.

There's a time and a place when Barca know they need to go up a gear and when they do... they are unstoppable.

As a Utd fan of 49 years, last May was by far the most humiliating moment for the club. What lessons were learnt from the previous year ? Not even Fergie could work that one out.

In the old days, the away team would come and defend for their lives so as to give themselves a chance in the home leg. These days the pressure is almost more on the home team not to concede and offers the away team a great opportunity to put the tie to bed early.

Barcelona have the confidence to know whatever happens this evening they're comfortable that they can turn it round at home. For that reason they can play confident free flowing football which is a terrifying thought.

Hate the thought of backing an away team against one of the top teams in the premiership at such seemingly short odds... but I think it might actually be a gift.

For those backing Chelsea, ask yourselves how many times Guardiola's Barca, with Messi at his peak, have been beaten in games that really matter?

The Champions League semi v Inter is one example. Maybe the Copa del Rey Final last year v Madrid and first leg v Arsenal (although they had the second leg to recover of course).  Not many others.

Even though people have said their form has been patchy this season, they've only been beaten twice.

My initial thoughts with Chelsea playing 6pm-7.50pm on sunday was that they havent had the most ideal of preperation for this game. but smashing tottenham 5-1 would have given them so mcuh confidence that almost over-rides any issues with tiredness.

initially was planning a bet of barcelona ht-ft at about 1.84ish but now im thinking a draw would suit them just fine and they have drawn a lot of away games in the league this season and also their champions league record over the past few seasons has been quite average away from home compared to their form at the camp nou.

draw probably the best bet here with a view to laying back the stake if it goes to 2.0 or lower.

i wont be getting involved though because dont feel like theres much value to be had in any of the options and a lot of people feeling inclined to bet just because its a big champions league semi final live on itv.

I can't ignore how Benfica managed to equalize and then very nearly win at stamford bridge against 10 men, I also had the displeasure of watching Napoli away at Juve and they couldn't manage one shot on target the whole game. So maybe Chelsea overturning that deficit wasn't as impressive as some thought.

I admit that looks like a pretty blinkered approach to this game but I have to fancy barca, especially after resting players like Alves and Iniesta at the weekend.

I'd lay Chelsea myself.

Forget match odds...look at over 2.5 goals. 1.9. I am almost speechless. Chelseas shoddy defence, at home to the best team in the world. Chelsea have to attack and I fancy them to get some too. Di Matteo is no mug, he knows a defensive game is suicide. I will be on over 2.5, 3.5, 4.5....

I think the game is going to go very differently to how many people believe. Chelsea are packed full of high quality, very experienced international class players who know how to win. Barcelona will not be able to prance about like prima ballerinas in the way they do in the very weak La Liga. Chelsea will be able to stand up to Barcelona and retain possession of the football and create plenty of chances. Chelsea will dominate them, just like they did 3 years ago, and unless the ref has been bought and paid for, Chelsea will win tonight.

win or no win High_lander I don't think Chelsea will "retain possession of the football"...no teams retain possession against Barcelona.

Real Madrid normally concede 70% against them, Man utd a similar amount in the final last year and AC Milan equally in the last round.

Teams find it so hard to retain possession against a side who have such a desire to regain the ball when they lose it and don't give you any breathing space.

Milan defended sensationally to get a 0-0 at home. Chelsea simply arent capable of that performance. JT the only one who can defend like that, on one of his body of the line hero nights

It's weird how no one can get Chelsea's early season bad form out of their mind. This Chelsea is as different to AVB's Chelsea as it's possible to be. This is Chelsea back to their Mourinho/Gus Hiddink standards, the same players with some world class additions in the shape of Mata and Torres.

It's not only that though, I believe that a team like Chelsea are Kryptonite to Barcelona, very much in the same way that Inter Milan were. Do we believe Inter were world beaters? Of course not! IMHO ManU would have torn Inter to shreds and the tie over in the first leg. So why is that? Inter like Chelsea are a very good spoiler side, very difficult to play through, very physical, very strong. The kind of side that Barca hate to play, Barca will not be able to get into any rhythm, and that will cause them to fall apart like they did against Inter and like they did against Chelsea 3 years ago.

Highlander, you say some funny things

But yet I am strangely accurate in my "funny" predictions, like when I said RM had no chance of beating Bayern the other day. Like when I said Arsenal would beat Barca at the Emirates, plenty laughed at that. Or maybe when I said Backing Arsenal against Wigan at those odds was folly.

I hope I keep on believing such "funny things" Cool

the last 5 champions league meetings at stamford bridge between these two sides produced 3 wins for chelsea 1 draw 1 barcelona win,but last one was may 2009 and both teams have changed since then, barca not been great away from nou camp this season,so in view of that a back of chelsea at 5.4 with cover stake on the draw, barca at odds on is no value at all

Yes and it should have been 4 wins for Chelsea if the ref had given even one of those 3 stonewall penalties in the 2009 tie. How anyone could back Barcelona at around 1.75 is beyond my understanding, it's just insane.

In 5 matches at Stamford Bridge
4 wins for Chelsea (officially 3 but I am counting 4)
1 win for Barcelona

And people think Barca are a good bet at 1.75 Shocked

yes but 3 years old statistics means nothing with that Barca

since 3 y ago Barca was just a big team
from 3 y Barca is not a "big" is the "Football"

so 1.75 is a great bet for a 90% sure win

Remember that Chelsea are a medium team now, that had a very big luck with Napoli and Benfica

stb80, surely you will be putting on your full bank on Barca tonight then? Seeing as they are guaranteed to win. 90% you say, wow 90% certain of a win against top class EPL opposition.

Arsenal 2-1 Barcelona

Tell me, were Barca 90% certain against Arsenal at the Emirates as well? Laugh

And I like how Chelsea were lucky even though they won impressively, but of course Barcelona weren't lucky against Milan, or weren't lucky when Bendtner should have KO'd them from the CL last season.
