I went into the local Barclasy bank to ask for details of a direct debit. Instead, the woman I spoke to decided to ask what the money to and from Betfair was on my bank statement. I told her that it was for a betting site and that is how I make my money. She then decided to tell me that she thought that gambling was not a sensible way to make money and that I should instead be working.
I have been a professional gambler for more than two years, and have numerous strategies in place to ensure that I do not lose large amounts of money. Had she checked further than a month ago she would have seen large profits going into my account, but instead she decided to give me her judgement on whether I am likely to win or lose money. She didnt even ask whether I was able to work or not before suggesting that I go to the local agencies to get a job. There could have been numerous reasons that I am unable to work, but perhaps because I did not have a walking stick or guide dog, she automatically assumed I was capable of doing so.
If someone spoke to you like this in a bank, would you make a complaint?

I did consider saying about Barclays bankers who had risked people's money by investing it unwisely and asking her to explain how that was any different.

No, I rarely post p/l. I did think about saying that two years ago I made twice what she earns in a year in less than four months.

My personal experience is that i have always been looked like a freak if i was saying i was betting on sports, so i always hide it if i can.
You can't compare investing on classic markets, which are based on serious things like enterprises or valuable goods, and sports betting/trading, which is based on idiots in shorts running after a ball. |

Its your money its none of her business nor the banks what you do with it as long as its legal, even then its not really their business. You should make a complaint and make it clear you will close the account if any member of staff ever dares question your spending again - threatening to close an account **** them up. I had an account with barclays years ago, went in to withdraw 1500 in cash, the woman ebhind the counter asked what it was for, and I said private use (it was my money) she said she couldnt give me the money unless I gave a reason, so I sid it was to buy a sackload of ecstasy tablets to sell to kids at a rave (it was around 1993). She got flustered, and I said ok I;ve changed my mind, please give me all the money I'm closing the account, in the end she called the manager, told him I was getting money to buy drugs - he apologised about 30 times in 2minutes, when it was clear I was taking none of their ****.
Banks will treat you like a **** if you let them. I once had HSBC try and sell me protection on a loan, by saying, what if you get cancer and die and you dont have protection on the loan. Banks are **** |

May i ask you how old are you , kn79 ? I guess you must be very young, because if you think you can go through life saying to anybody you are a gambler and be respected, you may know some disappointments in your life. Take the money and shut your mouth is my advice.

Yes ok call it trading/betting/gambling, it's the same thing as long it's on sports or horses. Useless for the society. Be happy to be in a country where you can still do it freely, because it's now forbidden in more and more countries, i had to live it myself
