Gary - I didn't realise Cattermole was still only 21 tbh. In that case, he could be a better signing than I'd first envisaged. As you know, I'll give any new signing a fair crack of the whip. GL for the rest of the season. 0-0 v Sheff U wasn't that bad a result with hindsight as they're guaranteed to be top 6 come May.

Portuguese giants Benfica claim they are poised to complete the signing of Middlesbrough's Afonso Alves.
The Brazilian striker was widely expected to be on the move this summer following Boro's relegation last term. Gareth Southgate has regularly admitted as much, but has been holding out for the right deal. Reports this week had suggested that the 28-year-old could be on his way to Porto, but that proposal has been dashed by the player's agent. "Joining Porto is impossible," said Roberto Tiburcio. "But we have received offers. The decision is Middlesbrough's." Benfica appear to have satisfied Boro's requirements, with a transfer set to be pushed through over the next few days. The Portuguese club claim an agreement has been reached with the Samba star and they hope to officially unveil him before their opening game of the new season against Maritimo on Sunday. |

lee's a decent player, at the time, we were happy to lose him, as we though that the likes of digard would be moving us forward, but instead it was backwards

because it is gary. you only had to watch the odd wigan game last season, to see he's improved massively since his boro days. an absolute snip at 6 million. steve bruce is a fantastic judge of player, but no i think i'll go with 'analyst's' view on this one.

of course he's worth 6m. you pay at least a 2m premium for that kind of player anyway, young, english, u21 regular. it's awful business for wigan, because they paid a fair whack when he was relatively unproven, and a bit of a drinker by all accounts. worth at least 10 now.

no i agree, they lost a few of there big players, the odds on them especially early in the season, will be wrong as they are not going to be the decent side they looked last year

Tuncay yeah thats a strange one i think. Thought he loved the club etc etc obv not enough lol maybe Gareth just doesnt want to play people he knows wont be here. Dont think hes the type of player we need for this season, i'm more worried about o'neil being linked with everton. If we lose him i'd say he 100% need to sign 2 midfielders because that centre mid is **e at the mo and u cant just expect rhys williams to learn a new position in this tough league. |

yeah, i think we just expect to be able to put Rhys in and him be a miracle worker, its not that simple
we desperately need, to get a strikers and midfielders, if we cant it will be a very long season, and this weekend i find it hard to see anyway possible for us to score, but i guess swansea are not man utd, so we could get something |

Yeah thats how you have to think every game 'should' be easier than last year as they are lesser teams i dont think teams being physical iis a big problem really end of the day its 22 men lol i think technically we have no worries it really is just scoring!
hopefully lita will have better fitness for saturday and be able to start but yeah its getting boring saying it but we need a striker and a big one at that. watched an interview with GS and he said there is no money right now so nothing is guna happen till alves and tuncay leave. So in the next few games were guna have to tough it and just hope by playing better i.e getting johnson and yeats on the ball creating stuff that we can get the odd goals because defensively were pretty sound. I could see us getting a 1-0 maybe at swansea, i dont rate sousa as a manager think hes a bit of a nightmare actually and they have lost key players and then with scunny seen as tho cardiff hammered them 4-0 its a must win basically |
