well sort of paul
but it's only going to do what you tell it to do and since, as bobbin says, you're knowledge amounts to massively overstaking on favourites all a bot will do for you is lose your money faster and do it automatically without you having to endure the heartache of impotence mid-event. Intriguingly since you are unable to use the exchange how are you going to employ a bot anyway? |
By:
Nope. I don't use a bot Bob. None of my strategies would really work properly with a bot, since I'd have to have rules that were more precise than they are at the moment.
I can program though, and I do use my own programs to come up with the figures I partly base my horse racing bets around. I have a few ideas that I might want to try botting next year, when I've built my capital up. I'd need to adapt to a slightly different programming language first, but I may well consider something bot-directed for 2013. |

If you base it on your opinions with no edge you will continue to lose longterm because the margins and comms on betfair/betduck will slowly eat away at your bank over time |

Bob, the api was launched in 2004 or 2005, I can't remember.
There's no point thinking about a bot until you have a winning strategy |
By:
bob-vegas
can you help me at all to get botted up? I would pay a large sum to witness this meeting of minds. |
By:
The api is provided by betfair
By:
what do you think the API is paul?
By:
I bet you don't!!
By:
so you backed Jankovic because you thought she would win - why did you think she would win?
she traded 1.13 i think in-play incidentally |

Too sensible Cat. If Bob had just gone into goo ogle and type in 'betfair bots', he wouldn't have needed to ask any of these stupid questions. Shame he hasn't realised that yet...

I know he won't read it...

this has to be the greatest thread on the forums, always catch up on the gossip and piss taking. Brilliant. Also hejik gets quote of the day with "without you having to endure the heartache of impotence mid-event" fantastic!
By:
Good to see someone's enjoying this thread besides Bob, Simon!
By:
Not quite sure 'gossip and piss taking' was its original purpose though...
By:
yeah bob doesn't know what that means Simon but thanks anyway

learned anything from it paul?
By:
Haha yeah you do get the occasional profit/loss report but it's a fruitless endeavour by the looks of things haha. Also another discussion point, I've just started trying pre-race trading, going good so far and shows a lot of promise. Does anybody else do this or have experience with doing so?
By:
He said 'pre-race', so I'm guessing not Football Bob...
By:
No bob ha, following the trends and what the weight of money is on either side then backing or laying initially depending on whether you think the price is going to go up or down, then doing the opposite and greening up for small profit, just wondering if anyone else has experience with this
By:
Simon, it sounds like trying to trade the momentum in the pre-race market is what you like doing. Have you considered chart trading with something like GeeksToy?
By:
Only my own, Bob
By:
I was using betting assistant to make it quicker for trades and back orders etc, is geekstoy useful? i've not heard of it
By:
I've never really used it, but I understand quite a few BFers use the charts for trading momentum. There's a free trial, so it might be worth a shot.
By:
yeh the assistant constantly updates the trend graph you can get on betfair whilst viewing the market so works pretty well and shows you how much money is waiting at every tick, so i put my money where it's lowest so it gets matched right away when it hits :) will be good profit after a few weeks of building it up, hoping to eventually be making £5-10 guaranteed every race/tennis/basketball etc so can easily clear over £100 a day fairly risk free
By:
Sounds quite interesting - I suspect you're about to start getting bombarded with questions from Bob about it!!
Be patient though, and don't try and increase your stakes too soon. These betting systems can unravel more impressively than you might think, so don't risk too much! |
By:
Yeh thats exactly what im thinking, in theory how many times have you seen 10 minutes before a race a favourite will rocket from 2.45 to 2.22 in a matter of seconds thats a perfect trade, in and out nobody gets hurt and vice versa. So i'm gonna stay small, build my bank then gradually increase and hopefully it keeps on going
By:
Good stuff. You do at least seem to have a proper strategy worked out. Hope it goes well for you.
By:
thanks :) and to you

Bergkamp, if you want more laughter at Bob's expense, he's being even thicker than usual on his Horse Racing thread about Camelot and the Derby. It's utterly astonishing just how little he's picked up after plaguing this place for over a year...
