By the bottom of the Telegraphe/Galibier I mean...
By:
How much gas will Bertie have in the tank with that kind of lead, and how hard do SKY take it up?
By:
SKY will take it up with Kwiatkowski, they'll expect Kiryi to hold up until then, so similar pace, and the gap is not getting out so dramatically as it was. If it's just 3mins it won't be enough I don't think, especially since Bertie's form is in question.
By:
4mins is Froome's advantage to Bertie let us remember.
By:
Can't see Contador group taking much more than they have now. I wouldn't have thought anyone would ride with Mollema and Pantano from the breakaway. While any UAE, BMC, Sunweb domestiques in the group will likely ride with SKY if need be.
Think the GC group should be favourites to take the stage now. |
By:
If SKY give Bertie 3mins they allow him some say about the GC situation, and they are far too professional to allow him such an opening. Kwiatkowski hammering it on the front on the Telegraphe/Galibier will take out at least a minute, attacks will see another minute and the descent at least a minute for a group of riders combining against Bertie combining with whomever is till remaining.
By:
Thing is with Contador we don't know what he's been up to on the rest day, in years past where we saw a different Contador he came off the rest day like a new man.
Mollema won't be any help descending either, so you would think that Contador might start the Galibier having to do the work himself. |
By:
If Bertie starts the Galibier portion by himself with only 2mins I don't think it will be enough. The descent will be a power-descent and you need riders pulling to make it work.

I'm watching national TV today as the connection isn't great. ITV keep commenting about Phillipa York, so I Googled..
Well I never. No wonder nobody could find him for years. |

You Poms are a funny bunch...

Swinger..you gave us Dame Edna,,we give you Phillipa York.
By:
Oh dear, that's so true, we have poisoned the mother country with our rude behaviour -- at least Dame Edna was just mucking around, possums!

Kittel abandon!!!

By:
Kittel out of tour
By:
35kms of climbing, huge elevation gains, and fireworks kick off on the Telegraph amongst the GC peloton -- 3mins not enough for the Bertie breakaway, I don't believe.
By:
Will Froome try for stage win ?
By:
Depends if things kick-off amongst the GC men on either the Telegraph or the Galibier...
If they do and he goes with them, he will go bury-mode and solo descent. |
By:
Wd on green jersey pick SP ,hope u win loads of £€$€$$$
By:
Kiryi still looks in decent shape, if kwiatkowski only gets to the front on the Galibier portion, he will destroy the gap. Pantano won't last, he is drilling it here and will end soon on the Telegraphe.
By:
Cheers padlock, wasn't a huge win on account of the liquidity wasn't really there, but it'll add another Green Bank for me, and hopefully it'll be a tidy sum when combined together with the other Green Banks.
By:
Yes, Mollema will still be there, but the gap should be going out and it is not, 3mins along that kind of climbing distance is not really much of a lead. Will Bertie show something special? He will need to show something vintage and exceptional to win this stage. He obviously can, but I question his form. Not laying him out of respect.
By:
A lot of passengers in the breakaway, so some of these other riders will be quite fresh -- it's been all Pantano for kms...
By:
Kiryi drilling it also -- SKY would like some Telegraphe work from him also...
By:
Mollema on the front of the break and UAE joining the chase in the peloton.
By:
Bertie the designated rider for TFR, Mollema now working by pushing the pace for Bertie breakaway. Pantano given a rest but he won't last for long once he is required again, I don't believe.
By:
I imagine we'll be under 2.40 mins when we start the climb properly if that continues.
By:
No way is 2:40 enough for the breakaway, even if it is Bertie, and Kwaitkowski is riding beautifully, that stage 12 pace he set was remarkable and he will ping off 40secs in short order, I believe.
By:
Then require some fireworks amongst the GC men and if it's bury-mode by Froome -- lights out for breakaway, although it might come back together in cooperative groups on the descent portion, and then becomes a chaotic TT affair. It's not an easy one today...

By:
Mollema pulling out time on UAE & Kiry. That surprises me, going to be nearly 4 mins at the climb.
By:
Pantano gone.
By:
Gave very fine service...
Very impressed by the teamwork in this year's tour. |
By:
Contador changing his bike again.
By:
Yes, it's gone the other way, not 2:40, but 3:40, but they are taking it very hard here, and the Galibier bites!!
By:
another dubious bike change by AC
By:
Here we go, let's see what kwiatkowski has got here?
By:
The market is suggesting there is only one rider in the breakaway -- there have been a lot of riders who have done no work and if it's a TT flats cooperation situation it's up for grabs for the remaining riders.
By:
It doesn't look like there will be much action in the peloton before the Galibier.
By:
Bertie will attempt an attack out of the breakaway group on the Glibber, too.
By:
Hope they check these bikes Contador is discarding before and after climbs. There really is no need for it and it's constant with him.
