I'm not sure what conversation you think you've been reading, but I haven't speculated on Froome's motivation in the slightest. Yeah that's what I'm doing. You seem to think there is some winnable argument going on. You're sounding like a big time Froome fan. Your lining up excuses for his loss and defending him from doping accusations if he wins before, and it's we're not even past the 3rd stage. |

My whole point is that if Froome wins people like yourself will just say 'he won he's doping', where as if he has a good race and loses out to someone like Contador(who is these days no more than a top-10 GC rider in jurisdictions that are tough on doping) it'll endear him more. The sheer craziness of anyone being suspicious of an out of the ordinary performance of a cyclist. madness Still trying to figure out your point other than to cast anyone with the slightest doubt as the villains |

So if Contador wins it's because he was doping and Froome will endear himself to the fans if he comes 2nd to him. If he wins people will accuse him of cheating so better to just come 2nd. Not really sure what your point is tbh. |

I doubt many people in cycling agree with you Nice argument. I'll take your word for it. |

By:
I doubt they're as precious as you
By:
So I think a Vuelta and/or Giro win would greatly enhance Froome's palmares moving him up in the discussion when comparing him to other great champions.
By:
looks like the soft pedaling has carried over from the tour to the vuelta
By:
Geniez the obvious favourite from the break
By:
Nice easy stage for the gc contenders. Good for the riders who did the tour.
By:
Lopez off and out of the GC shake up. Scarponi will be licking his lips for one more roll of the dice.
By:
Quintana will win this Vuelta
By:
lol movistar think they won the stage
dh's |
By:
disappointing stage on the whole
By:
Fernandez is a definite podium chance. It'll be interesting to see how movistar use him.
By:
My mistake, Valverde was the second movistar rider not Quintana. Still not bad from Quintana only 6 seconds behind the Valverde, Froome, Chavez trio on an unsuitable finish.
By:
So Valverde will probably be about 1.5 favourite for tomorrows stage. Movistar look very strong.
By:
bad signs for Contador, and Kruijswijk probably not in Giro shape
By:
ah long way to go to suggest Fernandez will get a podium although he was 18/1 with b""365 for a top 10 finish last night,Contador has lost time already, not looking good for him
By:
agree that Movistar look strong,Valverde being Spanish could be an interesting contender although he's a consistent 6/10 the whole year around and never seems to go on but could win by default of the Tour de France lads emptying out before the end
By:
Nice to see Igor Anton back up there. I thought we'd seen the last of him after the Movistar debacle but '6 on the main favourites is seriously impressive.
Bart De Clerq, Kennaugh and Goncalves also impressive. |
By:
By:
By:
yeah probably right although as I said he's consistent without doing a whole lot, cant have Froome winning it based on stats and he'll surely tire,Chavez is the standout as things stand out although the value on him is probably gone with the value maybe now with Quintana/Valverde
By:
History would suggest a Froome win is unlikely. It's just that he won the Tour so easily. I don't know if he even had to go into the red the whole tour. I still don't know what his climbing form is
like though because he never went on the attack at all in the mountains in France. |
By:
ah dont think there is such a thing as an easy TdF,Froome looked tired in the Olympics,at the prices he's got to be a lay for this, long way to go still
By:
He had a much easier time of it in this years tour compared to last years tour imo. He was on the limit a few times in the 3rd week last year whereas he seemed to be in cruise control this year.
Chavez definitely on the improve. 5th and 2nd in his last two grand tours but he did crack in stages late in the 3rd week on both occasions. |
By:
yeah although the thing Chavez has going for him is he should be fresh for this having not done the TdF,it worked for Aru last year, although still think Valverde is interesting as he's seemingly a better time trialist that Chavez who will probably lose time in that to both Froome and Valverde

In the last 10 Vueltas
3 times the winner rode in the Giro earlier in the year 5 times the winner was riding in his first GT of the year 2 times the winner rode in the Tour de France that year (neither completed the whole race though) |
By:
riders currently in the top 20 (within 2 minutes of the lead) who are riding their first GT of the season;
Ruben Fernandez Samuel Sanchez Leopold Konig Peter Kennaugh Simon Yates Ben Hermans Andrew Talansky riders who did the Giro earlier in the year Chavez Brambilla Anton Atapuma de la Cruz Formolo Scarponi Riders who did the Tour de France Froome Quintana Contador Moreno Riders who are doing all 3 grand tours this year Alejandro Valverde |

In the last 10 Vueltas 3 times the winner rode in the Giro earlier in the year Those 3 riders finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Giro before going on to win the Vuelta. This year Chavez finished 2nd, Valverde finished 3rd (and 6th in the TdF) and Kruijswijk (4th) would of won comfortably had he not crashed. |
By:
Also last year after winning the Tour de France Froome was 2 seconds off the lead in the Vuelta after stage 9 then crashed and abandoned.
By:
Last year Quintana finished 2nd at the Tour and finished 4th at the Vuelta. Remember he was sick at the Vuelta last year. Apparently he was sick at the Tour this year too.
By:
Last years Vuelta podium;
1st Fabio Aru - finished 2nd in the Giro earlier that year 2nd Joachim Rodriguez - 29th in the TdF winning 2 stages 3rd Rafael Majka - 28th in the TdF and won a stage |
By:
In 2014 the top 4 finishes in the Vuelta all rode the Tour de France in the same year.
Although Contador and Froome who finished 1st and 2nd had to abandon the TdF due to crashes. |
By:
In the last 9 Grand Tours Valverde has started he has finished;
6th,3rd,7th,3rd,3rd,4th,3rd,8th,2nd hasn't missed the podium in consecutive GT's since returning from his ban. |
