DixieDean; re Norman Gifford. We didn't have BBC2 at home until I left school in 1975 so I used to go down to my uncle's every sunday to watch the cricket : Laker, Arlott and West. The match would have been late 60s or early 70's. I wouldn't swear it was Gifford and I may well have seen Langford's effort. The ESPN article seems to confirm that !

It could be TC, although i'm not sure if Brian's feat was televised, i will try and find out.
Had to smile at your recollection of watching the JPL on BBC2, i had to go round my aunties (with my scorebook) as our tv didn't get the channel either but hers did ! She let me watch the cricket all afternoon for a couple of seasons and gave me my tea even though she had no interest in the game. Happy and simpler times. |

I have just checked out the records TC, Brian Langford's record was set on 27th July 1969 playing for Somerset against Essex at Yeovil.
On that day BBC2 showed Surrey v Yorkshire at The Oval, Surrey scored 200 and restricted Yorkshire to 158 in reply. |

DixieDean; old age must be catching up with me - I could have sworn that I had seen a 0 for 0 in 8 overs by a spinner on TV but perhaps not !
