Hick would have been good in this environment...christ him and Ramps largely destroyed by England (Ramps partly self inflicted by his own intensity)
By:
Hick with Stokes love around him. F me.
By:
My gosh, the Garmin's bleeping just imagining it
By:
lol
a lot of stick given to Engaland's constant public backing of players, not admiting wrong etc...all traits of most succesful sides.. presumably we'd like a return to public questioning of players and 25 players in a home series... |

I think Ramprakash was a different beast, and I quietly didn't like that he was batting coach for a while.
Too frail, somehow, and not the example to follow. Despite the obscene technical ability. (That said, I have no clue about his coaching and perhaps he was solely utilised around technique stuff) |
By:
Obviously, Hick was clearly saddled with some sort of torment, too, but I've glossed over that for thirty years and I shall continue to.
By:
I'm a bit biased on Ramps - spoke to him a few times over the years when I was living in and around West London and watched him for Middx a fair bit including his debut season...
lovely fella but was so intense about his cricket in an era when there was only tough love - and it was rarely love at all...they never maximised his very obvious talents (imo) |
By:
You will know much more than me, in that case.
Totally agree on his talent. Not in doubt, even for a blink. Definitely completely wasted, playing-wise but - at least from the distance I experienced him - I wouldn't have him down as the guy to guide our premier batters along their Test journey. |
By:
41 overs left...prbably get more like 37-38...would be 458 on current run rate...dec still not inconceivable if they don't die swinging...
By:
tms think they might get to 350 - 400 which would suggest they'll reduce their run arte in this session for no obvious reason...in fact to only get to 350 would be 100 ish in 37-38 overs...feels unlikely...
By:
Hick always maintained that he felt like a stranger in the England dressing room.
That Worcester side with Moody, Hick and Curtis at the top of the order was absolutely formidable in its heyday. |
By:
not to mention Beefy for a period...
By:
and Damien D'Oliveira (who I liked purely for his name on Teletext)
By:
Just backed the draw. BBC forecast shows rain more or less all day on Sunday and Monday so England might only have 50 overs to get them out.
By:
they did also predict heavy rain all last Saturday (ended up being light rain at worst and over a session of play) ...but might be right this time..
By:
Both apps I use suggest there should be oodles of play.
WeatherRadar and Windy, fwiw. Both free so probably operated by pixies but I find them the best I've discovered. |
By:
yep, I mean most weather apps are **** apt' so at least get inaccurate stuff from more credible outlets...met office, bbc (by meteo) are at least credible models...
By:
Oi, leave my apps alone
![]() Seriously, though, I've used them even for Windies series etc and they're none too shabby. Occasional local webcams can be a dream, and the short-forecast radars (2-3hours in) have been useful to me over the years. I don't lump on their say-so, but I'd swerve the draw here happily based on what I see. (Cue 2-day snowstorms from 10am tomorrow at the Oval) |

probably a bloke with crayons and a world map apt'

Yep, and he's a sooth-sayer, I tell you

more seriously (though only just) depends who the 3rd party provider is...

Just thought that 4/1 was value the draw in the circumstances. England don't have Ali so relying on Root plus some very tired quicks to get Aus out.
By:
Yup, and I don't want to poo-poo anyone's take, sage...let alone alter their betting.
Just that I was having the opposite thought, really. |
By:
(Unless your take is that England are flipping muppets; they don't know what they're doing, and Geoffrey Boycott is better than everyone. In which case...)

By:
no, fair play sage..never knocking a view and if Marnus makes 30 it's pretty much guaranteed a draw even without weather...
By:
England have made batting look insanely simple today, so there could certainly be legitimate claims made that England's group of oldies might have a struggle in the fourth...
That said, it looks to be cloudy hereon in so that plays the other way. |
By:
pretty flat deck - if you get a bit of time lost and Eng bat in to tomorrow plus Oz looking mainly to preserve series lead it's hardly out of the equation...
By:
Still distraught this isn't for The Ashes, I think the whole nation would be glued to tms right now
![]() |
By:
my oppo to the draw would mainly be I expect an aggressive dec either last thing tonight or first thing tomorrow - would be an odd time for Eng to play it safe on runs equation...but we'll see
By:
Yes Apt, if this was the decider half the country would be tuning in and seats for today especially would be a monkey a piece.
By:
tms knew...suddenly a bit conservative post tea...answers on a post code as to why rather as with that passage of play at Old Trafford on the 2nd evening when aggression felt more justified than ever..
By:
shot there of Ben trading the session runs...
By:
I just noticed that Sky are going 4/6 on Warner & Khawaja to score 10+ runs each in the 2nd innings.
I've seen worse 4/6 shots. |
By:
does to me apt' - but I'm **** on that kind of stuff...used to be some seriously good types on here about that kind of stuff...

By:
*slippy, sorry

Root gets his second grubber in two Tests when cruising.
Can't recall a single other for anyone else, in either match. |
