The rain has stopped here in Hall Green but can't guarantee we won't get some more.

By:
Still no rain but heavy cloud cover and poor light with a bit of thunder in the distance.

Down comes the rain again.

This whole Test Match is being nice for an Aussie victory
The first thing is the mistakes in the field, meant the aussies closed up the innings in score. then the decision to play for 20 minutes, which was impossiable for batting, the snarling disgusting aussie cricket team, will now feel like they've got the inititive to win this. if they come back out and overcast still. England will be bowled out for 180-220 by tomorrow lunch time. Then its a case of 1.5 day to chase down a easy total |

That’s cricket, get over it!

The rain has eased here but not stopped yet. The clouds are moving NW that is towards the ground. It will be surprising if there is more play today even though there is the possibility of a late finish.

I'm a casual when it comes to cricket, but this test has been very hard to get a read on or a sense of what's likely to happen. As soon as one team or the other gets themselves in a good position, they seem to throw it away. Not much movement in prices and frustratingly difficult to trade. Although I haven't followed all of it.

It’s been a great Test Pond. Plenty of ebbs and flows. Hope there is no more play today
By:
Yes, great from a spectating point of view, but I've found it hard to take a position (betting wise) with any real confidence. Although I can't analyse a match to the same level of detail as more regular cricket watchers.

The rain has stopped but I have a new paddling pool on the patio. It will take them a while to sop all that water up.
By:
It only rained here for 10 minutes and it was like a river down our street
It's been so dry for a while and the heat as well will have caused some flash flooding Should be good tomorrow though? |

Weather fine tomorrow but forecast more rain on Tuesday. Not sure how England can set a target based on uncertain number of overs on final day - they'll have to assume a full day's play but might not get it ?
By:
Not sure considering general approach and aggressive decs they'll worry much about the specifics of the target...
will go hard and if not bowled out will declare leaving oz a 45-60 mins approx at the end of the day... |
By:
Aussies faves from here
Moeen is the big weakness in this side sad to say They'll smash him from here on in he's so poor |
By:
Surely the Draw is way too big at around 5.1, with rain and showers forecast throughout Day 5. Even if England score 300 in 60 overs tomorrow and then declare (or are bowled out), the draw must be a major possibility if the play is interrupted several times on the final day. Latest forecast suggests that there probably won't be any play before lunch on Tuesday!

Erm, wow, Joe Root.
By:
He possesses outrageous skill.
By:
must be increasing his t20 franchise price quite significantly...
Oz way too quick to go defensive in this game... |
By:
He's gotten the bowlers, well Cummins certainly, off their game already. Remarkable.
By:
must be increasing his t20 franchise price quite significantly...
Indeed. If Ajinkya Rahane can transform himself, it ought to be a cake walk for Root. |
By:
Very tough gig for Cummins, here.
Trying to adapt his bowling to our approach, whilst simultaneously trying to conjure instant ways to captain against it. Just *another* of the beauties of our revolution. |
By:
they've had plenty of time to work on some general principles though...they've largely reacted like a schoolboy team...as in the 1st inns where they had sweepers back with batsman on '0' still !
two ramps and you take a slip out...do you not want him to keep trying that for a bit longer on a flat deck for seamers in these overheads ?...sure if he middles 5 or 6 there's a problem but just did exactly what Root was hoping they'd do and offer gaps for easy ones and two's again as happened in the 1st inns.. |
By:
can already bring any dec forward by an hour...though personally think they'll get bowled out at some point as the more comfortable the lead the more mental it will get later on...
By:
I agree, their thinking (Plan A) was muddled from the outset. I suspect they over-simplified how they might be able to combat us, perhaps not crediting the approach with the respect it merits.
The effect on opponents is a built-in benefit, as much as the ridiculous run-rates, aggressive bowling & the innovative, unsettling fields. |
By:
Cummins/Oz already realise it's not as easy as sticking men back, so they're now doubly confused coming out for the second innings...
Then Root scoops both opening bowlers and their heads have popped (especially the captain, who is also one of those bowlers). I'm clearly a broken record but I cannot get enough of Stokes/McCullum. It has still not stopped revealing new dimensions. |
By:
OOOOF. What a delivery!
By:
beaut' from Cummins but surprised at how much they've been able to live rent free in the Aussie heads...they maybe spent so long telling us how they'd just play their own game and they didn't bother doing enough prep..they certainly haven't stuck to their own game in the field ...batting wise I think they did..
By:
Punter has it - Root looks his best ever.
Dangerous for the Aussies, as he was almost the only thing missing in the Stokes regime. If he carries this confidence through the series, we just need to nail down our bowling attack. |

Any streams pls?

Root unlucky there,if Bairstow was keeping he'd have been OK.
By:
Stokes might be thinking about a declaration...
By:
Edgbaston crowd in great form this morning
![]() Bairstow been borrowing some of Shane Watson's massive pads...how big might that overturn be.. |
By:
Is this just a simple coin toss? Does the weather play a part..any expert forecasters out there? Presume only a few hours max set to be lost and 250 run chase on the cards? I be with Aus right now in that case....
By:
latest met forecast has most of the rain coming through early tomorrow so potentially little impact but they aren't always right of course...Oz going to have plenty of batting today as we can play till 7pm...
By:
England doing an absolutely fantastic job of throwing away this test match with numerous charging down the wicket stumpings and reverse sweeps, just bat normal ffs, now the tail is in we will be lucky to set them 250
