Leach should have been playing here!

We should have had two spinners! He may even have helped Comical had he kept things tight and taken the pressure off him

4/1 draw could be big if Stokes and Buttler don't lose the partnership within 30 overs.

these 2 need to replicate their stand in the WC final but take much longer doing it..Bairstow could hang around and Woakes but can't see the 4 of them basically batting 2 sessions

WD, indeed. only blind faith was really keeping him in the side for this match. hasn't got or looked like getting a score for a long time now. he looks shot to pieces both as a batsman and bowler at the moment. almost cruel to keep picking him

@ wondersobright - if that were true (and it would have to be true a large majority of the time at 1.3s to be more profitable than waiting a while), it still doesn't answer my question as to how long you run the trade before you take a loss on it - any ball could lead to another wicket so there's no right price to get out. I just have no idea how people sit comfortably backing short odds in these kind of situations.

I'm not passing any comment on the profitability or otherwise of that kind of trading

all I am saying is if you bracket individual innings by balls faced, then the lowest number of balls faced has the highest number of dismissals
and hence, all things being equal, a wicket is more likely immediately after a wicket has fallen than at any other time

whether the market goes too far with this is another matter altogether

So let's see what happens to the Eng price at 340 if we get a partnership.
I can see Aus 1.2 maybe getting back to evens but I can't see Eng coming into 60-odd
unless they score at a pretty hefty rate.

You'd think they would all have been briefed to faff around and stall - these are collectively supposed to be experienced experts.

it's not worth the risk, loads of wickets fall in the last over before a session. The batsmen just seem to seize up

the selectors have got to get to grips with the not good enoughs and bang out of form for the next test as there is no way they can save this

imo Burns will get phuck all in the upcoming matches if they persist in selecting him

Denly not good enough-Malan is better but.....

Johnny B imo not a red ball test cricketer Foakes is better keeper AND a better no7 Test batsman

Moin Ali is so out of form it's unreal got to be dropped
By:

all these players getting dropped...who for?
By:
wondersobright
When: 05 Aug 19 13:32
you say malan is better..averages under 28 in tests (26 innings)

batting down the order
By:
SaveTheWhales.
When: 05 Aug 19 13:34
indeed WD .. and even if they were obvious replacements dropping after 1 test of a series smacks of a lack of process and could lead to a shambles of the highest order
By:

archer for anderson and leach for moeen. doubt they'll change anyone else at this stage although denly and bairstow are both skating on very thin ice

You still have a last over and I don't see how the pressure to survive is less if you are wasting time to ensure this stays the last over.
